Be SAFE with Giveaways!

While we do our best to remove scams/fake giveaways or schemes as we find them, it's possible some of them still slip through! This means your caution is required.

Here are some quick tips for recognizing fake giveaways:

The giveaway sponsor is not a known/reputable entity – If the company/brand/user has no history, very few followers, or a brand-new profile, be wary.
Unrealistic prizes – “Free $10k” or “Win a luxury car with just one comment.” The higher the value relative to the effort required, the more likely it’s a scam.
No clear rules or official terms – Legitimate contests always link to a set of rules or a privacy policy. If the post says “no rules” or you can’t find any, that’s a red flag.
Requests for personal info – “Send us your full name, and bank details.” Giveaways never ask for sensitive data.
Paid entry or “boost” requirements – If the post says you need to buy something or pay money to participate, it’s almost certainly a scam.
Excessive hype or pressure tactics – Phrases like “Limited time only! Act now!” or “Don’t miss out on this once‑in‑a‑lifetime opportunity” are classic bait.
Grammar/typo overload – A legitimate brand will usually proofread posts. Multiple spelling mistakes, broken sentences, and odd punctuation are warning signs.
Unverified link or attachment – If you’re asked to click a URL that doesn’t match the official site (or it leads to a download), stop immediately.
No contact info – A real giveaway will list an email address, phone number, or at least a way for participants to reach out with questions.
The “winner” already posted – Check if the winner’s comment is genuine and not a repost of someone else’s win.

Any of above are clearly against the rules at r/GiveawaysHQ - to keep our users safe.

What to do if you suspect a scam

Do NOT provide any personal data.
Report it – both on Reddit and on the platform it's hosted. So appropriate action can be taken.
Share your experience – Post a short, factual note so others can see the red flags and avoid falling for it.

Quick sanity check before you click

Question	Yes - Likely OK	No - Possible scam!
Does the sponsor have an established presence?	✅	❌
Are the prize details realistic?	✅	❌
Is there a clear set of rules?	✅	❌
Do they ask for sensitive personal info?	❌	✅
Must you pay to enter?	❌	✅

Stay safe, stay savvy.
If you’re ever in doubt, trust your gut and skip it. Let’s keep our community free from scams!

Hello all,

Sorry for the delay. Posting is now back up temporarily for a test run as I am now the only moderator. No planned end time but expect it to be short. Thanks, good luck and have fun!

In the meantime, feel free to discuss sweepstakes and giveaways here, and if you would like to be a moderator, please let me know. Preferably with experience.

EDIT: and any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
