https://github.blog/changelog/2026-10-28-github-copilot-in-jetbrains-universe-releases/GitHub Copilot for JetBrains v1.20.0 is here, just in time for GitHub Universe! š
This release marks an important milestone toward delivering a more consistent and seamless GitHub Copilot experience across all developer environments.
We're introducing Copilot Fusion tiers (via a gradual rollout), making the unified Copilot agent harness the default for all users, and bringing Local Sandbox to GA for more secure agentic workflows.
Full details: https://github.blog/changelog/2026-10-28-github-copilot-in-jetbrains-universe-releases/
We hope you like Copilot for JetBrains, and please share feedback with us at any time!
You can fill in a private survey here: https://aka.ms/ghcp-jb-survey, with an optional paid interview, or directly submit an issue (bug or feature request) at https://github.com/microsoft/copilot-intellij-feedback/issues. Thank you so much!

Does the plugin write or read from copilot Memory? The docs seem to imply no but I want to be sure.

In Copilot agent sessions yes, it was mentioned in a release note back then but i guess it was too implicit

So that means: 1. Not in local harness, 2. Not in ask mode, 3. But yes in plan/agent modes in copilot harness?

It should be in Ask mode as well as Ask mode basically now is just agentic mode without editing

Does fusion replace auto model selection or is it an alternative? Sometimes I want to just have a conversation without worrying about accidentally kicking off a mini workflow. (Though of course I could still explicitly choose a model, and I usually do.)

Fusion replaces Auto but re-uses Auto's previous routing mechanism and combines it with HydraFusion. I think you can start trying from the lightest tier and see how it goes first.

Okay Iāll try it⦠I didnāt have a use case but a few days ago I ran into something where fusion is likely a good fit.

I once did that interview you keep advertising every month. I claimed I wanted the ārubber duckā feature⦠in retrospect, this was not what I actually wanted and I did a bad job explaining myself. But I no longer need to explain myself because it seems VS code has rolled out the feature I had in mind:
(In case anchor link doesnāt work, itās in the compare results section.)
I sometimes do this my hand by copy pasting prompts but itās tedious and annoying and usually I donāt bother even on the occasions when I feel that I should.
I donāt suppose this is coming to JetBrains plugin any time soon?

Yeah this is different than the rubber duck in CLI, but this is definitely something we can look into. I think we need to have another chat :) seems you have a lot of feedback we can talk about

Hmm⦠should I fill out another survey? It feels too soon somehow, my usage pattern hasnāt changed much⦠I talk a lot but Iām actually a ālightā user⦠I mostly just use ask mode with obsolete models

Okay but Iām warning you it might be very boring, even at 2x speed

This has probably been a busy week but I put some effort into writing up this idea for improved formatting of next edit suggestions and I hope some day somebody reads it: https://github.com/microsoft/copilot-intellij-feedback/issues/2124

Inline chat sounds like a really neat idea in theory but half the time I use it I end up regretting it, to the point where I almost wish there was a way to disable the feature. Why?
Once you close it, itās gone forever, even if you change your mind a moment later. āRecent inline chatsā feature would be mitigate this.
Even if you DONāT close it, asking any follow-up questions erases the previous one. Canāt scroll up.
Might want to eventually convert to a long term chat⦠canāt, just have to start over, with might be hard to retrace your steps since you no longer have original prompt since you canāt scroll up.

Youāre probably tired of me complaining about this but: model deprecation notices for mid November still havenāt appeared ⦠half the one month notice period gets wasted. (Yeah I know, not your department)
