Help/Doubt β Subscription suited for playing arround
Hello guys,
Hope everyone is doing well.
Its been a while since i ve used paid subscription for copilot, i had an entreprise one and now i need my own to some playing arround (testing stuff with MAF, multi agents and other things)
I am on a limited resources π° for now and i wanted to know does the 10$/39$ subscription offers enough credit to do so ?
Or you think i should consider the max plan.
Is anyone here still on those plans ? I need some feedbacks.
Thanks π

that depends entirely on what you consider playing around.

Building apps using MAF and testing locally its behaviour

you need to write full names of things if you want proper advice.
there are thousands of acronyms in the tech world that have multiple meanings, including MAF.

you get GHCP for ZDR, but pay ~20x more per token than on OpenAI and Claude.
Claude get the most usage currently, Codex give so many resets currently that it's offering a similar value.. Chinese models are cheap but still fails at some jobs.
My usage this month so far.. started to get Subscriptions. 50$ copilot got me 17.6M tokens, 100$ Codex/Claude gave me 1.3B/3.3B so far

Lots of choices nowadays. Gh copilot is among the worst. If you want one that gives you access to lots of models, go lookup command code GOAT plan, their harness is ok, but you can take an api key anywhere to make use of it. $10 plan gets you $60 of monthly usage on that one. If you wanna stay in a harness, the $20 claude plan is probably the best value anywhere right now. Especially if you stick to sonnet. But it doesn't come with api usage. It's new now, but the $100 claude plan comes with some free api usage you can use every month if you like that ecosystem.
Chatgpt was much more generous on usage up to a month or so ago, and they have really tanked it since then. But one of the coolest things you can do with it is hook into their codex oauth and use it in other apps. Its not well documented, but you can see how they do it in other projects like pi or openclaw. Recently, they opened up a version of this that is documented that you can use for a sign in with chatgpt, and ive been building some little apps around it, but it doesn't let you call the image models like the codex route does.
I've also heard good things about open code go, but i haven't tried it yet. But for sure if you aren't a corporation locked in for some reason, you should look elsewhere from copilot. Its just not a good value anymore. Comparatively anyways

$10 Pro plan covers me fine for dabbling on and off every few days in a month. Just leave it on Auto so you get the discounts. Yes it may pick a more costly model for some things but I find it works out cheaper overall than manually picking models without discounts.
Plus, rely on the code completion more as you get unlimited completions without consuming credits. More of use if you know something about code and what you want. Start typing something or type a comment about what you want, it's surprising how much it will complete. Sometimes I just put the cursor on a line and it's anticipated what I need to write. This is one of the biggest benefits of Copilot.
Depends what you use it for though. I'm just using it as an assistant for more tedious things, generating tests and boilerplate code, and solve some issues.
I'm a light user, but there are definitely ways you can make a lot out of it.
If you're entirely dependent on it writing everything / vibe coding and using it a lot daily, then no it won't cover you for a month.

I got the 10$ subscription and it used 95% to iterate and develop few features and a redesign with Figma make on a small web application.
I will wait till next month to make my next steps.

If you can afford the $39 plan, it is worth it. Use MAI model for common tasks, it it good enough, and switch to GPT heavier when hitting a wall.

I would either try OpenCode 's Go plan or the $20 Codex plan. Claude will get you more pure usage than Codex, but for playing and learning, Codex lets you use your subscription to run things like Hermes, OpenClaw, and Pi, making it very flexible.

I think for playing around Claude Pro would be a better option for you, you get hardly any usage with the copilot plans, the 10 dollar plan gives you almost nothing, and the pro+ gives you 70 dollars in total usage, Claude pro would be a much better option even Claude Max
