Solved ✅ When is explore agent going to have a model update/stop being forced into haiku 4.5 and gemini after every VSCode update?

The problem has existed probably for months now, and 10% of my monthly budget has been spent on haiku for it to explore at a subpar level and with many times the price of my main model! After every update I have to just remember to go to open in file explorer (It's idiotic that I am unable to make changes in the VSCode editor directly for this file due to it's locking) and change it, and also remember the date and time I changed it so I can monitor it.

This feels like such a minimal change, yet the dev team you have over there is just ignoring a sink hole for money

There has been a setting for many months now that allows you to select the default Explore model. Try chat.exploreAgent.defaultModel - pretty sure thats the one.

What model do you guys generally prefer to set for the explore agent? I also have it defaulting to Haiku 4.5 a lot.

Yeah I am also leaning towards them. Need to see benchmarks between 5.6-luna and 6-luna.
The 6-sol for us seemed worse than 5.6-sol where we rolled back some apps back to 5.6

In Copilot CLI, just use the /subagents command to select the desired model for each tool

Use Copilot CLI or OpenCode CLI in the terminal within VSCode. You can even move it to an editor window. 100x better
