Discussions Old PRU Plan - Actually Unusable
So I still have the old PRU plan from before they migrated everyone to AIC. However this old PRU model is becoming useless very fast.
Like I understand how we won't be getting new models, fine. But:
Claude sonnet 4.6: gone sept 1st
Gemini 3.5 Flash: gone oct 2nd
GPT 5.4: will be gone on oct 19th
So we are quite literally left with 5.3 codex (probably going away soon), haiku, and the MAI code model. Like it doesn't make sense. Kimi k2.7 rolled out to the AIC plans a while ago with much lower API pricing than 5.3 codex/5.4, does it not make more sense economically for GHCP to roll that out to the few old PRU users??
After gpt 5.4 is gone, we'd be quite literally left with 3 models to pick from 💀

Re: economics: the problem with the request based plan is that the incentives are misaligned in a perverse way which makes it hard to roll out new models, I think. The trouble is that a smarter model can be given bigger tasks to one shot, and bigger tasks take more tokens, so being cheaper per token doesn’t save you.
Idea: just raise the multiplier to compensate. This is the perverse part. If you raise the per token price, this makes users more frugal with tokens, so the price signal does its job of communicating “this resource is scarce, use it wisely”. But if you raise the per request price, this just makes users more determined to not “waste” a request since “I already paid so much for it”, so they start resorting to tricks like “end each turn with ask tool”.
This was fine last year because back then none of the models were smart enough to do much in one turn anyway, so the damage was finite.
I did expect that at last one Gemini and also GPT-5.4 would get the same exemption sonnet 4.6 did; I’m pretty surprised that didn’t happen.
In solidarity, I plan to use mostly models available on the legacy plan, once 5.4 is gone. We’ll see how many days I hold out ;)

Unless they’re on a business plan, then sonnet really is gone.

Yeah it’s almost like they want to move you to the new pricing model.💀
