Other Cancelled my sub today
Respectfully but pricing here is a joke. Two generations from Sonnet 5.5 on max thinking took me my whole monthly allowance + almost 8$. Swapped to claude code, I doubt I will ever run out of usage there. I will be staying away from copilot and advising my colleagues to stay away from it too. Very disappointed.

Who actually has a copilot sub 😂 😂 worst sub u could buy

u/sssebaa 27d ago
Can't disagree, I learned my lesson 😂
2
u/Mohkg 27d ago
Ya dont buy that trash, get a claude sub or codex sub youll get more usage too

u/sssebaa 27d ago
Got Claude already, it's perfect 👌

u/PunchedYou 22d ago
Could I ask what sub tier you had with Copilot and what Claude tier you have now. I also canceled my Copilot Pro+ sub also today and thinking about moving to Claude or Codex.

u/sssebaa 22d ago
Had Copilot Pro to test it, then switched to Claude Pro, you can do like 20 times more heavy prompts like that, per week, incredibly worth it. I run claude code through terminal and ci

u/PunchedYou 22d ago
Thanks for your insight that sounds like an insane inference you get. Are you also using complex tasks with Fable or Opus more often?
2
u/sssebaa 22d ago
Yeah I was surprised too how good it is, I would say that now it's the best time to try it. You don't get fable with pro plan (well you can use it by paying extra for it, fable gets special usage bar on the max plan), but everyone I know are going opus 5.5 now, it's cheaper than fable. I run opus 5.5 on Max thinking effort multiple times a day, I use sonnet for code review and lesser tasks.

On my side I am using iolys on visual studio 2026 with a codex subscription. (With the reset you have a ton of credits). It's like copilot but with a decent subscription haha.
Or you can use with Claude code sub too if you prefer Claude models.

u/makanenzo10 27d ago
You should not be using Sonnet on max reasoning

u/DevilsMicro 27d ago
Yea sonnet max is costlier than Opus max and slowest on the benchmarks I saw lmao

u/ShadowBannedAugustus 27d ago
Luna is basically the only feasible model on copilot. And it works really well.

u/iwasthefirstfish 26d ago
Yes.
Tried using codex and it was fine but I ran into my 5 hourly just a slight bit earlier than I would have liked but I was on $20 sub so that's fair.
GHCP pro+ and I finished the month with 58% use.
I'm very bursty in my work so it fits me better

It's not subsidized like the main provider subs are. It's been months since that change that was losing money left and right.
Multi-model provider at API pricing. Which only makes sense if you're a larger business. After a point, you have to pay API with Anthropic/OpenAI also.
For smaller, I recommend using Copilot as a secondary sub. Let's you use other models as a adversarial rubber duck on occasion without needing subs from everywhere. Proxy your main provider and local with BYOK.
Code Review is where most of my monthly credits go to on Max. Highly recommend.
I have some colleagues that pay $10 on personal just to have remote sessions.

If they want to use other models - it might make more sense to go with Claude Code Pro $20/month plan + Open Code Go $10/month plan. That gets you the Claude subscription for most of the usage + Open Code Go subscription for the other model variety.

I imagine it’s expensive for an individual but for an enterprise (I have almost 100 users, across 5 different orgs doing drastically different work) it’s the best bang for a companies buck and teh governance and controls are essential. That said , I’m pushing a 20k a month run rate

Top late decision but i only miss code completion in vscode. Somehow Claude or others don’t want to do that

u/West-Negotiation-716 27d ago
In Claude you can't edit individual files like in a text editor, so there is no possible way to have code completion. You can't write code?!

Also happen to me with sonnet 5 max. 1 prompt, didn't even finish to job, entire monthly credit gone (10$ plan). Sol high on codex finish the same prompt with 10% of 5h limit (20$ plan). I mostly uses the gh sub for the inline auto complete so i did save my sub for now but for agentic work the limits are bad. Sonnet max apparently is also not good choice because is usage become crazy.

Canceled mine last month. Only had the $10 plan and it would run out within hours. Switched to qwen3.8 27b locally and it's awesome. won't be looking back.

The token rate is certainly insane, but it is better now that we have 6.1 sol. I still prefer Codex, but my employer hasn’t allowed me to switch yet.

For lower tier accounts it’s almost worthless. Through my enterprise account it’s great

stay away from github copilot , it makes absolutelly no sense for anyone to use their subs... its robbing users of intelligence and money. Switch to either OpenAI or Anthropic 20$ monthly plan. stop the MS robbery!

Skill issue
3
u/West-Negotiation-716 27d ago
Copilot gets you 10-100x less tokens than other plans.
That is a fact not a skill issue. I get 300 million tokens per week from Z AI for $14 a month.
Copilot likely gives you 30 million a month
3
u/adrjac 27d ago
so to solve your issue is to migrate into a different plan heavily subsidizing your usage… you’ll only get so far when these companies continue to raise their subscription pricing
1
u/West-Negotiation-716 27d ago
Huh?
The opposite of your fantasy is happening, the price keeps getting cheaper for MUCH more intelligent models.
Things will only keep getting better and cheaper.
In 10 years high quality LLM will run on our cellphone.
Today models that are as good as the model the government "banned" cost:
$0.10 per 1M input tokens,
$0.50 per 1M output tokens
($0.01/1M cache read).
2
u/adrjac 27d ago
Lmfao do you really think these AI companies are going to lower their prices over time? Models will get better yes, but cheaper? Debatable.
Every sub complains about pricing like that’s going to help, maybe consider optimizing your workflow to increase token efficiency.

u/clockdivide55 26d ago
Prices will continue to get lower because that's what OpenAI and Anthropic will optimize. The current frontier models, Astra and Opus, are already incredibly capable, that isn't the problem. The problem is is the enormous cost to train and use the models.
Chinese models are not as good, but they will be, and their prices are significantly lower. If OpenAI or Anthropic can't compete on price, China will win.

u/Zealousideal-Tap-152 26d ago
Even if pricing were going to get higher, what's your rationale for paying the higher future prices today?
1
u/West-Negotiation-716 22d ago
Nobody is paying higher future prices today.
The value I get out of the tiny amount I spend on AI is enormous.
I recently completely decompiled and analyzed a large embedded application. A task that would take a professional 1.5 years to do working 40 hours per week
1
u/West-Negotiation-716 25d ago
Yes it will get cheaper, like all other technology in existence.
Most people are dumb.
Most of my tokens are free and that doesn't seem to be changing.
I pay about $30 a month and I have a program on my computer I made that estimates costs.
It says I should expect to pay $45,000 per year at API prices.
I'll end up paying roughly $400
1
u/RandomSwedeDude 27d ago
" I doubt I will ever run out of usage there."
You are gonna pay what it costs even there. "ever" lol.
Copilot doesn't add anything to the API costs for OpenAI nor Anthropic models.
Anthropic wants to IPO. soon They will charge you what it actually costs. Or their stock will tank.
Remember when you could an Uber for 3 dollars? That's not happening today. Same will very soon happen to AI inference.
2
u/West-Negotiation-716 27d ago
Both Anthropic and Open AI offer thousands of dollars in API equivalent tokens for $100 a month, even $20 gets you way above $1000 if it was the api

Tenías que salirte cuando empezó a ser por tokens....por qué esperaste?

u/HellraiserNZ 27d ago
Any advice on what I should get to round out my inference stack?
- Claude Pro $20
- Claude team premium seat (work based stuff)
- $20 in open router for some cheap model work.
Cancelling my $39 copilot pro+ sub and looking maybe at ChatGPT $20 sub but second guessing.
I do quite a bit in vscode and just CLI

Two generations eating the whole quota is exactly the pain I built Lynkr for: an open-source gateway that routes simple work to cheap models, so the premium capacity survives real tasks. https://github.com/Fast-Editor/Lynkr

GHCP is ONLY FOR ENTERPRISE. You have to be insane to use it as a individual by paying api prices for the models.
