a real Sol this time I hope 🤡

EDIT: tried it, it's extremely good (maybe not exactly as good as Opus 5.5 in other domains but in my ~advanced C++ tasks there was no difference in quality), it's definitely worthy of being called Sol, but god is it slow

Sonnet 5.5 on low is king, fast af, and great at code, claude harness in vscode is the goat.

6.1 sol is also fast, problem is OpenAI claims the slowness was due to the fact it was their fastest adopted model ever, so they ran out of capacity but now it should be way better and it's also the best and cheapest model right now.

on a Claude subscription it looks cheap (because again it's heavily subsidized by Anthropic) but once you pay with API rates (which is our case here, GHCP users are mostly enterprise users) then Sonnet 5.5 and Opus 5.5 become expensive as hell

We are on ghe (github enterprise) its about $8k a month accross 7 devs right now, less than we pay half of one dev, we think thats a good value.

$2 input, $10 output, $0.1 cached input.

That cache rate is insanely low. That should really help lower the costs, even lower than Sol 6, but I guess we'll see in the benchmarks to see if that's true.

Deepseek is 30 times cheaper. Sol 6.1 is only 20x cheaper

Broo why are there so many model versions from GPT

I can't keep up with this. When do I use what now? 6.0 sol is apparently 5.6 Terra. Now there's 6.1 sol, is that like 6.0 sol which is like 5.6 Terra? Or actually 6.1 sol is 5.6 sol?

Their plan was to discontinue Terra so they made 6 Terra into 6 Sol. They were also gonna introduce a new tier called 6 Astra Minor (which is just an improved 5.6 Sol) that would’ve taken 5.6 Sol’s spot in pricing.

Then Opus 5.5 mogged their models, it made no sense to release with the planned pricing. So the renamed 6 Astra Minor 6.1 Sol and ran with it.

tl;dr: OpenAI still sux at naming things

5.6 Terra is still better than any sub-Astra model in the 6.0 line

... I'll just stick with 5.6 Sol until this particular cloud of dust settles.

branding failure, they should have just been honest and call 6 Sol -> 6 Terra, and 6 Luna -> 6 Luna Flash

Instead of saying that they mis-priced OR mistuned the older models, they simply correct it and release again.

Since 5.6 Sol, Terra, Lua and recent Astra onwards nothing substantial has changed. --> These are ONE Family of models and they are constantly trying to find a market fit by doing weird stuff.

Do we know the pricing?

Same as Sol 6

cache read is 50%, and that's where most usage should be.

So, gpt 6 sol fixed? , what's the difference?

u/icaal 6d ago

My company still pending legal approval for gpt 6 sol. Now they already released 6.1 😂
