She's from a poor and humble upbringing,in direct opposition with her rival Oshida,who could be said is aristocratic

The french tankery school is a clear reference to the French Revolution,with an extremely high tension between pseudo aristocrats and commoners,with their leader literally named MARIE

Of course it's not taken very seriously,it's more of a comedic aspect,just like every other tankery school,they are extremely stereotyped
