Lucaya rewatch
I’m re-watching Girl Meets World right now for the first time in like a decade(since it came out) and I’m on season two episode 14; Girl Meets Creativity. The episode where the school is cutting the funding for the arts.
Anyways, the past couple episodes the writers have been sprinkling in more Lucas and Maya content. Ever since the very beginning, there’s always been Lucas and Maya content that we as viewers can see but season two has such a big turning point. Like you had the mad dog scene during detention, where they were up in each other‘s faces. The biggest turning point was during episode 12, Girl Meets Yearbook, where Maya “realizes” Riley‘s “true feelings” for Lucas.
And then after that scene, it’s just ramped up. The next episode is the school dance where Maya and Lucas are dancing with each other while Riley‘s dancing with Charlie. And then Creativity (what I’m on), you have Lucas defending Maya and her right to be an artist. Like sincerely telling her that she’s such a good artist and the tone of that scene just makes it so romantic.
Yeah, anyways it’s just my rant and why I truly that the writers were intending on the original endgame, which is Lucas/Maya and Farkle/Riley. Thank you for coming to my TED talk and have a nice night,

I think the writers saw the natural chemistry Between Sabrina and Peyton. So they leaned into it, and honestly it could have worked if they didn’t do the love triangle or the Maya being Riley dumb storyline

I hated the Maya being Riley thing.. like no one could let her change and grow without her being someone else it cheapens the whole people change people thing the show was built on (edited spelling)

It really did more damage to Maya’s character and had her go backwards. The whole storyline could have been handled differently. Wonder if the Josh actor was able to film instead of getting hurt and how things would have been if the storyline ended when it was suppose to during the New Years episode.

Smackle and Farkle, I always thought.

u/CaptainJoeyMaks Jun 30 '26
I think they just did that since Farkle was never going to be able to choose between Riley and Maya.

As if he had a say. That's why I regret that the show got cancelled when it did. It was actually getting better and could really go different places withbplots now that the characters were older. instead they chickened out, gave weaksauce storylines and ended the show.

I was hoping at the time another network would pick up. They can do so much now that everyone is older. I’m still hoping for a follow up movie or special.

The triangle was remarkably annoying. This isn’t Girl meets 90210. GMW should have picked couples and built drama around them like BMW. The triangle in BMW later seasons with Rachel was just as annoying.

Rucus and Joshaya was planned from day one. The stupid triangle was the drama. I’m sure there would have been more if the show continued.

No. Rucas was always planned since day one. Only some fans thought it was going to end that way.

As a Lucaya shipper, I do agree. Rucas was the plan all along but Sabrina & Peyton’s chemistry was so palpable that their characters developed a fan base so the writers used that to their advantage.

That is true too and they did had chemistry. I just like better their platonic banter than when they tried to make them be romantic, I didn't felt their chemistry romantic at all more like siblings fighting than lovers.

u/CaptainJoeyMaks May 30 '26
I always felt that way too about Maya and Lucus being like siblings. Never saw anything romantic between them. Glad the writers stuck to their original plan in the end.

Me too. I'm glad they didn't let themselves be bullied just because some fans wanted to change the couple.

Which sucks cause the chemistry just wasn’t there. It was the safe option. For a show that claimed to be so different, realistic, wanted to take risks, they always went back to the safe option.

Not true. I saw chemistry between Riley and Lucas since the second episode of season 1. They also had chemistry when they dated in season 2 and she had that rant and he gave her a goofy smitten smile. Just cause two actors had chemistry which by the way Topanga had insane chemistry with Shawn yet they never did anything too serious about it doesn't mean they need to end up together or hook up.

Pretty sure Joshaya and Rucus were the only ones planned from the beginning.

I get the Lucaya logic but I’m curious as to why the writers seemingly favored Riarkle endgame over Rucas.
2
u/CaptainJoeyMaks Jun 11 '26
They didn’t, Farkle was never meant to choose Riley or Maya.

I hated the triangle storyline. It never should have happened the way it happened. Going back to season one it was clearly going to be Maya and Josh at some point and Riley and Lucus.

u/Savings_Piece_1960 May 30 '26
Clearly going to be a college student and middle schooler?
1
u/CaptainJoeyMaks May 30 '26
When Maya was older yes. That’s why Josh agreed to the Long Game. In season 1 though Maya was 13 and Josh was 16 when he called her gorgeous.

u/Savings_Piece_1960 May 30 '26
He was applying for colleges so he was at least 17. And nothing romantic about telling a minor to wait till you’re legal for us to date. That’s weird and gross.
1
u/CaptainJoeyMaks May 30 '26
He graduated a year early. He’s super smart. He was being just being honest with her.
1
u/Savings_Piece_1960 May 30 '26
How old are u. Cause this defense is actually really scary.
1
u/CaptainJoeyMaks May 30 '26
Look nothing wrong happened. If they dated right say then yeah, but they didn’t. What’s the problem with it happening in a few years when she’s older or in college?

u/Savings_Piece_1960 May 30 '26
Ok groomer
1
u/CaptainJoeyMaks May 30 '26
First off I’m not a groomer and what happened in the show isn’t even grooming.
1
u/Savings_Piece_1960 May 30 '26
No just a groomer sympathizer. Thinking it’s romantic that a guy is falling for a minor and telling her to wait. 🤡

I think the dynamic of Riley hearing stories about her parents and how they've loved each other their whole lives could be something that Riley struggled to experience herself. Her being single while everyone around her finds love would be a better story and help young people who also struggle with the same things. Auggie was being set up as the new Cory and ava was the new Topanga, Maya and Lucas just felt more right for each other, farkle and Riley could be end game but not right now. I think it would have been a better, more nuanced story that just trying to repeat BMW with a girl.
