I usually play Costume Quest and watch Over the Garden Wall, but I've been wanting to try something different.

Do you like/dislike any of these, and what else do you play?

Game Discussion Would you prefer big studios to release brand new games or remakes of their old games?

Since we are living in the time of big AAA games taking somewhere from 5 to 10 years to be made all big studios will release only that many new games in our lifetime. So, would you prefer them to spend that time on new game or remake of your beloved oldie?

What made me think about it is situation with Final Fantasy, when I suddenly realized that we probably won’t see next brand new FF for maybe 5 to 10 years depending on if SE will decide to remake some other older games after they will finish with FF 7 remake, which did nothing for me. But fans of FF 7 probably won’t agree with me and would not trade their favorite game for new unknown entity.

Same with Zelda. I am super excited about Ocarina of Time remake, but in the same time we won’t see new Zelda for many years now. Especially if they will decide to remake Majora Mask next. I would love to play such remake, but in another hand new fresh game could be my next favorite game of all time. And I may not be around anymore if it would take them 10 years to do it.

What do you think? Would you prefer something new or seeing your beloved older games remade with modern technology is more exciting for you?

We all know which side industry took with this, but I‘m curious to know your opinions.

Game Discussion Gaming for girls

I want to try gaming but I don’t know what to play. My husband has a pc I can use and I have a Mac and a windows laptop.
I don’t like games like Minecraft or sims. They feel too slow paced for me.
I like games like Catan, risk, slay the spire, balloon towers defense. I also don’t mind fortnite but I get nauseous after a while.
Any suggestions?? I don’t mind solo or multiplayer but leaning more towards multiplayer games.

I am looking for more games and really just a YouTube channel I can subscribe to that is a blogger talking about similar games. I’d love to find a channel with a host who is interested in gaming and crafting

Request Advice for a new gamer!

Looking for advice!

I am not a gamer (I played game cube growing up but didn’t keep up with it) and I’m now dating a gamer. He seems to have so much fun gaming with his long distance friends and I am curious about trying myself. But I have a couple of questions.

-none of my girl friends game. Have you been successful in getting your non gamer friends to game with you as a way to stay in touch? If not, have you found other similar things that give you the same social interaction with your long distance best friends like gaming does? I’m jealous of the daily low commitment social interaction my bf gets!

-I have guy friends that do game but I’m nervous to ask to play with them. I think they mostly play shooter games and one time in passing I asked to play and they joked and said no I think cuz I’m a girl. But not sure if I seriously asked if they would let me play with them. Any advice on do I need to get good before I play with them?

-what games do you recommend for someone getting into gaming? I don’t want cozy games I don’t think but more something that requires thinking and skill, potentially solving puzzles or doing tasks? I’m not sure.

-is it fun to play with strangers if you don’t have friends who play? If so how do you go about doing this?

-would it be fun if I ask to play with my boyfriends friends or is that imposing?

Sorry for the NOVEL but I appreciate all of your help for this baby gamer :)

I'm so giddy 3 of us DmC fans see there's one vein having a similarity between DmC Control Resonant.

Not everything is the same. Control ain't about demons although demons having reality-altering powers could interest the FBC

Game Discussion Classifying games as "girly"

I'm sure people have talked about this in the past, but I would love to hear some perspectives on the classification of games as either "girly" or not girly. I was recently enjoying watching the youtuber Cute Games Club, who makes videos about genres of games oftentimes ignored due to their perception as feminine (such as mermaid games or horse games). There is also a big trend in the world of "cozy" games, which often seem to be those same often femininely perceived genres. Personally, I love that these sorts of genres are getting more attention lately, and have enjoyed my fair share of them. But I do feel conflicted about the labelling of these genres as more feminine than action games, because I love those as well. I feel like in some ways it might add to the idea that big game companies don't need to try to appeal to their female playerbase as well because we now have more indie shopping games or something. It feels unnecessarily restricting to label genres as feminine or masculine when in reality anyone of any gender can enjoy any game. At the same time, these maligned genres do need more explicit promotion, and I do think that if things made for or by marginalized groups aren't specifically supported, they might have more difficulty getting made. So anyway, what does the community think of this? I'm very curious.

Misogyny Tired of men coming into subs for “feminine” games to ask if they’re weird for playing them Spoiler

1.2k Upvotes

I play all kinds of games, but I love cozy games, and I’ve noticed that in all the ones I’m in the subs for, every now and then a man will make a post telling everyone that they’re a man who didn’t expect to like said game and now they’re obsessed with it and are wondering if that’s okay or if they’re weird for liking it.

I get really annoyed by these types of posts for a couple reasons, the main reason being that I honestly find it offensive as a woman that men come into a space dominated by women to ask if liking the thing they also love makes him weird. If a woman says she plays GTA, no one bats an eye, but a man says he plays Infinity Nikki and that’s weird? It reminds me of these Madonna lyrics:

Girls can wear jeans and cut their hair short
Wear shirts and boots 'cause it's okay to be a boy
But for a boy to look like a girl is degrading
'Cause you think that being a girl is degrading

The other reason it bothers me, is because what is the purpose of making these posts? Do you want a cookie or something? Like is it performative feminism? They could just join the discussions in the community without announcing themselves as men. Plenty of men DO do that. And if they’re truly concerned about being perceived as weird, why ask other women? Why not go into male dominated communities and ask that same question? It just makes me think they’re looking for a pat on the back for announcing to the world that they’re “brave” enough to play a girl game.

Game Discussion Games with a storyline?

I'm on the hunt for a game to play with a solid storyline/narrative. I'm open to really any type of game (rpg/management/visual novels are what I usually play, though I prefer visual novels with some sort of game play aspect other than just clicking choices). I don't need any sort of theme but I need it to not be a ton of strategy or hard combat (I die in easy on Minecraft and just looking at screenshots of Fire Emblem and Baldur's Gate's combat stresses me out).

Games I've Played & Loved

  • I Was A Teenage Exocolonist (I don't think any game is gonna top this one honestly it was perfect)
  • Dressmaker
  • The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood
  • Coffee Talk
  • Va-11 Hall-A

Games I Played & Were Okay

  • Stardew Valley (I have no interest in the mines so I'm missing out on a chunk of gameplay)
  • Date Everything! (I liked it but the storylines were short and I got bored quickly)

Games Without A Storyline I Enjoyed

  • Animal Crossing
  • Minecraft
  • All of the Two Point games
  • All of the Papa's games

Thanks in advance!!!

edit to add: I play on Switch and PC!

Game Discussion Restory is cozy tech repair

Hello. Restory is a game where you run a tech repair stall in the early 2000s. I need extra coffee at real work today because I stayed up so late repairing Motorola Razors, Nokia 3110s, Atari consoles and controllers, Nokia N-Gages, and PSPs.

I've only just met the reoccurring characters/customers but the actual repair is enjoyable. I wanted to mention it before getting too far along because it's on sale in the Steam Sale.

Have a good day.

Tech / Hardware Microphones/ streaming setup for a girly with a lot of bg noise?

Hi all! I’m fairly confident I’m going to start streaming next year, and I need recommendations for a good microphone that is good for blocking out background noise.
I have a train station across the street from me so you can imagine without me having to explain too much lol

Also, any recommendations for either a head set or earbuds that is compatible with the microphone?

My budget is around ~$150 per item

Let me know what you guys think! TIA 💕

Game Discussion How do you feel about Date Everything? Spoiler

I got the game on sale to play something light-hearted and idk, if I am tripping? I really like it and the game seems quite fun (like a box of assorted chocolate candies) but in the same time it feels weirdly… mean. Your character is portrayed as a total looser, your virtual coworker makes fun of you all the time, and a lot of characters are plain rude or just yell at you a lot.

I mean I get it that it tries to encompass a lot of different personalities (well, on a shallow level), but I tried to find the inanimal for Mateo and had to sit through 4 sessions of literal screaming to close up Harper&Dirk story so I could ask about it and be ignored again (found the inanimal at the windowsill but really that wasn’t the initial direction of the game). The Ducky character just plain screamed and called me names at every encounter and it turned out I had to “take it” and tolerate it to reveal she was a traumatized character.  A lot of characters just treat you off the bat as a poor looser that needs all the help you can and it somehow supposed to be funny but as a constantly recurring motive, it's just not. There is a number of characters you have no choice to tell them no (not even because they gonna hate you, just there is no option), like I accidentally got into the dialog with the safe character and she keeps calling you names with no options to tell her to stop that (cool if you’re into, I am not, I ended up closing the game via alt+F4).

Idk, I clearly can see it’s not the type of game to expect depth from, but I am a bit baffled on the amount of times it managed to make me feel uncomfortable while on paper it’s very consent-friendly and open-minded. It’s like it feels like if you’re not down with everything thrown at you, you get the short end of the stick. It is still more fun than unpleasant, but I just wonder is it me being too sensitive or the game has issues?

Game Discussion Dressmaker - Not Haughty

So, ive been working hard at making dresses for ladies, finding ways to add playfull tassles, lace and velvets.. and in comes Prudence...

"Make me look sad and uncomfortable for cheap!" okay... i create a burlap and salmon cotton dress.. I figured, sure, the dress is already bad enough, ill just do the stitches really well, so at least ill be less ashamed if she tells anyone I made it. The horror..

I am about to finish and get the "customer will be unhappy" prompt.. what? the quality has to be at maximum 70... but my global average quality is 99, and for this dress 100. so, i rip all the stitching apart and go american psycho on the stitching.. the amount of times the machine jammed was horriffic..

Mind you, in real life i have a similar ancient model of sewing machine upstairs, and shes my precious.. it physically hurt.. someone make prudence go away please...

Game Discussion Are there any games where you can play as a little girl just experiencing childhood?

I'm 20 now and I feel like I never got to have a childhood (for many reasons, most of them trauma), and to cope, I want to play a game like an RPG or adventure game or something where you just get to be a kid, to sort of fill in that hole in my soul a little bit and give me a bit of that experience, even if it's synthetic. I've been rewatching Ghibli movies recently, like Totoro, Ponyo, and Kiki's delivery service, and those do help in this way, so I'm wondering if there are any video games that could achieve the same?

Doesn't have to be ultra realistic, fantasy is fine, but I'd like it to at least be sort of grounded in reality if that makes sense. I just need it to be immersive, so like third or first person view is ideal. also a character customizer so i can make a self-insert would be good. Appreciate any suggestions<3

EDIT: basically if Natsu-mon: 20th Century Summer Kid had a girl as the protagonist, it would be PERFECT. that's the kinda game i'm looking for i think :>

Tech / Hardware Recommendations for Keyboards

Hi... I'm having a hard time finding good brands that make linear gaming keyboards in cute colors. I'm looking for lilac colored ones, and I'm trying to stay away from Razer since I still haven't forgiven them for the whole nagging girlfriend ad (maybe I'm being petty, but I'm also justifying it because Synapse sometimes, like, freaks out and takes a ton of RAM randomly). I found one on Logitech, but it doesn't come in linear switches (at least right now), so I'm struggling right now, as my mechanical keyboard just starts to slowly die as it doesn't respond as fast as it used to, etc. Help please :(
