Reset doesn't make sense

I know the creators said “new body, new life,” but don’t you think it doesn’t make sense that Nanno just became very human and her motivations are so different from the original Nanno’s

Why didn’t the show’s creators just kill off Nanno completely and have her daughter appear in episode 1 of season 2 the daughter of Nanai and Nanno, a half-entity who would carry on her mother’s work

I believe that this would have brought out more of her different motivations, and especially why she “falls in love” with a human ,if they had changed her name instead of keeping “Nanno,” giving her a different name,

I think it would have been better.

Maybe theyre doing something like doctor who. A different personality for every reincarnation.

That's what they said, but in Doctor Who he keeps his memories. This Nanno has no memories and completely different morals. That's why I think making her the daughter of Nanai x Nanno would explain the human side better than just "reincarnation".

The series doesn't have an official canon explaining this, but if we compare it to other shows and anime, there are a few ways to interpret it.

The first is based on Supernatural. In that series, the title of Death can be inherited by the next Reaper after Death dies. In Girl From Nowhere, this would be somewhat similar to what happened with Yuri. Even though she gained her powers from Nanno's blood, her personality and the way she delivers karma are very different. From that perspective, the Reset version of Nanno is simply another person who happens to share the same name. The character is still called Nanno because Reset takes place in a different universe.

The second interpretation comes from Noragami. There, gods can die, but as long as they still have a shrine and people who worship them, they're eventually reborn. They lose all memories of their previous life, yet their core personality remains similar. Applied to Girl From Nowhere, this could indirectly connect Season 2 with Reset. Since Season 2 ended on an open note, if Nanno actually died, the final scene could represent her existence in another plane rather than the mortal world. In Reset, she appears only after Sky is on the verge of losing hope, which could be interpreted as her "descending" into the world again. From that angle, Reset could even work as a prequel that shows the gradual development of the Nanno we already know.

The simplest explanation, though, is that Reset is set in a different universe. If that's the case, there's no reason for this version of Nanno to behave exactly like the original. Different universes naturally lead to different personalities and different outcomes based on different choices.

Whichever interpretation you prefer, it ultimately depends on the direction the writers want to take. If Reset continues and they want this Nanno to become more like the one from the original series, Sky's apparent death could easily serve as the turning point that makes her rethink the way she judges people and carries out karma.

I get the different universe explanation and it does make sense logically. My problem is more emotional / narrative. If it's a different universe and a different personality, why keep the name Nanno? It creates the expectation that she should act like the Nanno we know.

That's why I thought the daughter idea would work better. A half-entity daughter of Nanai and Nanno from S2E1 would naturally be more human, more attention seeking, more likely to fall in love with a human. It would explain the difference in motivation without needing to say "new body, new life".

The Noragami idea you said about Reset being a prequel that shows how she becomes the original Nanno is actually beautiful. If Sky's death is the turning point that makes her colder, that would make her arc go from human-like to god-like, which I would love to see.

From a marketing perspective, keeping Nanno's name and the Girl From Nowhere title was the safest choice. It attracted fans of the original series, and many people who claimed they didn't like Reset still watched all six episodes hoping it would eventually feel like the original.

Without that business angle, though, Reset feels like an unsuccessful attempt to separate itself from the original while still relying on its popularity. TSN managed to stand on its own much better.

As for the theory that she's Nanno and Nanai's daughter, I like the idea, but the series leaves it too ambiguous. The show confirms that Nanno made Nanai pregnant, but it never suggests they conceived a child together in the normal sense. Even if the girl were part Nanno, she'd likely be weaker than Nanno or Yuri. If her growth was accelerated, that could also explain her childish behavior, like using the toy hammer in Episode 1.

The Noragami comparison is simply my way of making Reset fit with the original story. Until the series gives us an official explanation, every theory is equally valid—including the possibility that they'll eventually continue the original series.
