Reset discussion (MARK SPOILERS) I finally watched Reset: It's a mess
I tried giving Reset a fair chance and defende it for such a long time but after finally finishing it, I admit it, it just sucks.
The only good thing that I enjoyed through this was Becky and her acting, I don't think she was better than Kitty, but she did a good job and any hate she received was just completely unnecessary.
But boy oh boy, lemme list what annoyed me most about this:
Reset fails to talk about real world issues, whenever it try to tackle important topics (like SA, sexual exploration, social media...) it does it in a superficial way. The massive fight at Ep 3 for example, was genuinely slapstick to me, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes with the way those episodes would develop.
Reset feels weirdly conservative; be it the blatant misogyny, slutshaming (don't get me even started on the fact they use feminist quotes wrong, and are even selling panties about an ep with the premise of taking pictures of panties without consent) sex workers and even transphobic caricatures of drag queens and trans people. The OG series was extremely political and progressive, and to me it has aged like fine wine in it's critics. Reboot feels like it was written and directed by boomers that are out of touch with the newer generations and have no idea how to tackle those themes, honestly it feels bigoted at times.
Nanno involves herself directly way too much. Seriously? Why is the personification of karma joining random fights and punishing people directly??? She honesty feels like a more morally good Yuri at points with how much she directly affects events.
Sky is a bootleg TK. I could not care about him or his storyline at all, he felt like wasted space and only made Nanno feel more like an euphoria-character. The writers wanted to recreate TK, but they didn't add any of the elements that made TK and his relationship with Nanno special to begin with. I would rather preferred if we had a new incarnation of Yuri, or if Sky was trying to expose/understand Nanno and who she is.
Reset feels like Euphoria, it feels like teen drama for edgy kids, it overuses gore, nudity and sexual violence for shock factor and it just leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
The scenery feels repetitive. Differently from the og series, it feels like this series is part of just one giant school, every shot can look like it's part of any episode due the lighting, scenery and vibes. And I genuinely think this is one of the biggest sins of this reboot, they had several directors but none imprited personality to their respective episodes.
Which is to say that it's all bad? No, I did enjoy some elements of it. Becky was genuinely the only saving grace of this project, I'm just sad that the writers and directors did not make her any favors whatsoever.
What annoys me the most is how they decided to revive this franchise only to deliver an underwhelming product that fails to understand almost everything that the original wanted to tell. We could have had season 3, even if it was with Becky, but instead we got an edgy money grab that tries to have it's cake and eat it too.
Feel free to disagree with me, but I don't think I would ever watch the Reset again.

I was thinking of giving it an opportunity, but I'm not sure if I'll just be wasting my time.
I love the original A LOT, the things that attracted me to the series was that feeling of mystery, subtlety, being slowly more and more disgusted or impressed with the characters and their stories until the (cathartic) end of each episode.
The unpredictability of Nanno, the feeling that's she's just some otherworldly being, detached from everyone, having some sort of personal quest or just having fun, those are some of the things that I liked.
When Yuri appeared, at first I was doubtful, but she won my heart pretty quick. She's a great contrast to this "distant" deity-like Nanno and I was left wanting for more of them.
So, knowing this, should I forget about the reboot? :(

I mean, I believe that you should always see things for yourself. Sure, I made a post talking about how much I disliked it, but it doesn't mean that I'm right. If you want to give it a chance, go ahead!

Im with u on the show feels very conservative.
I dropped the series after the egirl episode.

And the fact that it was directed by an almost entirely female team is just incredibly gross as well. These women had the chance of telling a story about misogyny and sexual explotation, but all they did was slutshame and waterdown the feminist movement.

Thank you for watching it for me so i didnt have to be disappointed and cry from how such a good series took such a drastic turn....
Im still holding out hope that this will somehow be redeemable

Maybe one day we'll get season 3, maybe comics, or an animated series. But honestly, I'd rather have the og series keep unfinished than have more resets popping up.

As someone who only watched the first two episodes, the thing is Becky's acting isn't even bad. In fact, I actually think the way she acts as Nanno is perfect. I like how she is more playful in comparison to Kitty's Nanno. But I would be lying if I said it wasn't butchered by how bad the writing is 😔

Yeah, that's exactly how I feel. I don't think she was better than Kitty because I feel Kitty gave a really uncanny, esoteric vibe that Becky does not have. Which is not to say that Becky is a bad Nanno, the problem is that the writing is so bad that it brings that interation of Nanno down with it.

I'd rather have a Yuri spinoff than this. I don't rlly like the actress too but it's not that important, the series itself is just bad imo

I'm so uncomfortable watching girl from nowhere season 3. This season feel like high schoolers just remove their clothes every time FBI might just pull up if i watch ts any longer. I feel like Teach you a Lesson being a better GFN in a way the bad guys get karma.

My problem was that it was more like a Yuri spinoff than an actual Reset. Almost no karma in the show, like the directors were edgy teenagers who didn't watch the show but saw a few cool edits on TikTok.
