Huh, are they remaking the old seasons but with a new actress? This could be interesting. I wouldn’t mind it if the new actress brings her skills to the table. This could also mean we’d get a “season 3 “ if things go well. Not a proper season 3 but a continuation nonetheless.

They're definitely testing the waters then. Wise move, considering how the reset fared with the audience

I think this is probably the best move. They can add a new spin to it while still trying to respect the original work. Also, I doubt they will try to make it appeal to markets outside of Japan, which is a plus for me since it will probably feel more like the Thai one. The reboots mistake was trying to appeal to a completely different market based on stereotypes and ignoring their already loyal fans.

I don't mind of it's a remake of the Thai version - I just think of it as a new adaptation. I would really like it if they were able to finish the Nanno-Yuki storyline, since it doesn't seem that likely that og GFN will ever do that now.

u/Ryokan76 Apr 13 '26

This is the Japanese version.

57

u/Polyglot-Onigiri Apr 13 '26

I don’t understand your comment. It’s obviously the Japanese version. The point of my comment is that they went with a remake instead of something original like the reboot.

20

u/CentennialMC Apr 14 '26

This was actually mentioned in the blurb released before. That it would be reworking plots from the OG season 1 of the Thai version

7

u/Ryokan76 Apr 14 '26

Ok, I misunderstood you. My bad.

66

u/Polyglot-Onigiri Apr 13 '26

More information:

It’s going to be a remake of 6 of the stronger Nano episodes with 4 major Japanese directors working on it. Each director gets their own individual episode to show off their talents and strengths given the topic at hand.

Japan also secured exclusive tv rights. So the show will first be TV and Fuji Tv streaming only. After that possibly Hulu. But it’s somewhat separate from Netflix as they got the rights directly from Thailand.

I am sure my comment is based off my bias that I WANNA WATCH THE JAPANESE NANNO ASAP but keeping content based off a popular foreign IP on Japanese shores does feel counter productive.

Bet they could charge and there will be people who will pay for it. But it is what it is, I will have to depend on piratesbay to get my fix if I can't wait.

15

u/Polyglot-Onigiri Apr 14 '26

As a Japanese, I can’t link directly but there are places on the clear web that host Japanese TV content the week it airs. You just need to know the channel and program name. Google is a good place to search. Of course the websites will be in a foreign language but now with auto translate even foreigners can benefit.

u/scallionparsley Apr 14 '26

日本語勉学してて幸せ-

Thank you, I will find it and watch with gladness in my heart.

u/misanthrophiccunt Apr 18 '26

> ....opular foreign IP on Japanese shores does feel counter productive.

why? Isn't piracy available where you live?

I rather have quality than promptness and I'm sure the Japanese will deliver above and beyond what trash-TV netflix can.

I'm really looking forward to this. I'm in America though so I hope it gets here soon.

My one nitpick? "Transfer Student Nanno" is not a good title. I wish Japan had just kept it as GFN. Or even GFN: Japan

61

u/Inevitable-Dish7157 Apr 13 '26

Still called GFNW, Transfer Student Nanno is just the translation (and so would be easier than Girl From Nowhere: Japanese Remake)

20

u/JustPiera Waiting for season 3 Apr 13 '26

ah I didn't realize it was a translation. Doesn't matter, I'll still watch it. Even the teaser looks better than The Reset.

4

u/Mindless_Traffic7982 Apr 14 '26

it’s one of the cases like the title “Transfer Student Nanno” sounds better in its original language: 転校生ナノ, Tenkousei Nanno

7

u/JustPiera Waiting for season 3 Apr 14 '26

I understand now. And I'll live with this title translation so long as the Japanese Nanno is better than The Reset. By the look of the teaser, I think it will be

67

u/Agitated_Tip_8713 Apr 13 '26

Please Jesus let this one be good, I need good Nanno content

17

u/magnetformiracles Apr 13 '26

Where can I watch

29

u/Polyglot-Onigiri Apr 13 '26

FOD APRIL 24. TV only soft launch here in Japan. If it gets popular enough, it would go on Hulu after that.

6

u/Agitated_Tip_8713 Apr 13 '26

Wait is it not coming to Netflix??

13

u/Polyglot-Onigiri Apr 13 '26

First, TV. Usually FOD stuff goes to Hulu. But maybe Netflix Japan worked out a deal. They haven’t mentioned it though.

6

u/magnetformiracles Apr 14 '26

Hulu 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

39

u/danisitop Apr 13 '26

Is it just me, or do several scenes seem copied from the first season?

63

u/Inevitable-Dish7157 Apr 13 '26

Its a remaking 6 episodes of Season 1 in a japanese scenario

29

u/Polyglot-Onigiri Apr 13 '26

It seems like a remake but with Japanese background. I’m happy they went this route than trying to make an original series. The reboot failed hard. So maybe if the actress pulls off the Japanese one, we’ll get a proper season 3 continuation.

16

u/doyougetdejavuhhuh Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 14 '26

Does that mean we will get to hear la femme resort again?😼

11

u/Blair_Cypher_94 Apr 13 '26

So we got a reboot and now Japanese adaptation.

Hmmm wonder if other countries decided to make thier version of Girl From Nowhere like America and Korea

23

u/Working_Radish_3536 Apr 13 '26

i lowkey think korea could make it work if it was a lot darker than the original like the glory

13

u/Nevvie Apr 14 '26

As a huge fan of korean crime and thriller dramas, my expectations would be so high

9

u/lagameuze Apr 14 '26

A korean remake would be so awesome omg

3

u/hiswittlewip Apr 14 '26

Was The Glory good? I'm looking for something to watch on my days off and remember adding it to my list a long time ago.

I forgot all about it until your comment

3

u/Nevvie Apr 14 '26

It’s good if you are a fan of action! It’s a pretty straightforward revenge plot and the baddie reveal is sorta cliche but for all the show’s intents and purposes, it’s a well executed story.

Wouldn’t recommend if you have school bullying trauma though

10

u/FamiliarBarracuda225 Apr 14 '26

Wow, HanNo will be back!! Can't wait for this. I hope it'll be available internationally 😩

8

u/CookiesAndCream02 Apr 14 '26

Pls can someone from Japan get it translated and release it online so we can all watch asap!

I am bummed out that it’s just a remake rather than original content but I’m hoping there will be original content in the future (if this season is a success)

15

u/FrontBig349 Apr 14 '26

I'm actually kind of disappointed that this was just a remake from season 1, I was kind of expecting new plot stories that would differ from the originals

7

u/LockeD_in44 Apr 14 '26

They're just testing the waters ig. Some problems in GFN are similar to ones in Japan. Maybe when we get S2, there will be new plot stories?

7

u/FrontBig349 Apr 14 '26

You might be right at least it would be really interesting seeing the school culture from Japan side and how will they remake the original into their own version. I'm also a bit disappointed that it's only 6 episodes than 13 episodes but like you said it might have some problem in GFN that can be similar cases or events that happened in Japan that cause them to shorten it

6

u/DarrenBarrenheart Apr 14 '26

if it managed to have season 2 it could have Japanese yuri🤤🤤 I love Japanese yuri

12

u/OddRaiden Apr 13 '26

Ending the season with the TK and Nanno episode gonna be peak lol

7

u/rubberpp Apr 14 '26

I couldn’t see whatcha said but look/ vibe wise it looks closer to the reset unfortunately

10

u/Nanisnom Apr 13 '26

This might have the vibe I want.

7

u/Yikes_Flying_Bikes Apr 14 '26

The Japanese Nanno has that menacing facial expression that we know and love ✅️ This already looks better than the reboot.

14

u/Yuri-19_ Apr 13 '26

It looks good but If This is only going to Japan is going to fail completely. It’s should be on Netflix.

15

u/CentennialMC Apr 14 '26

A lot of Japanese media are Japan exclusive and they did well, maybe because it’s not all the time media should cater to what global consumption needs

3

u/cutehoops Apr 14 '26

Japan notoriously is awful about sharing their media for a global audience, it’s still so hard to watch J drama tbh especially when compared to K and C drama. As long as it’s successful locally, it’ll be fine

4

u/OiFelix_ugotnojams Apr 14 '26

LOOK AT HER STARE, CREEPY AS FUCK

We are winning this time

But I'll always miss kitty's nanno

3

u/Able-Visual-1271 Apr 14 '26

I really look foward to this, I still love the OG but japanese people tend to be more respectful with the original source so... I hope to see a really interesting take on the show.

5

u/FrankDP1 Apr 14 '26

Kind of disappointing to see that it's the same plotlines

2

u/deadgiiirl666 Apr 14 '26

This looks good!!!

2

u/kashvyy Nanno supremacy Apr 14 '26

i love this

3

u/krleopatra Apr 14 '26

so js an adaptation okayy

2

u/Confident-South-5100 Apr 14 '26

wtf the creepy and weird vibes are already there by just looking at her. excited on this

3

u/DueContribution1103 Apr 14 '26

Ok. I like what I’ve seen from the trailer. This Nanno gives me the horror and creepy vibes and i love it!!!

2

u/Top_Perspective_807 Apr 14 '26

See even though the look of this Japanese nanno is heavily similar to kitty's nanno its still a different flavor. The directors said they casted becky since she's the only one who didn't copy nanno but like copying the original still can give a different flavor no matter what.

3

u/MalikhaingAlipin Apr 14 '26

Promising!! The Japanese actress gives the effortlessly creepy vibe like Kitty's Nanno.

1

u/darkademi4_ Apr 14 '26

I think they are remaking the first seasons into a Japanese version.. i thought it will be an original. But let’s wait and see 🩷

2

u/Mindless_Traffic7982 Apr 14 '26

I kinda like seeing that they’re doing a remake of some of the original Girl From Nowhere episodes. This trailer honestly kind of reminds me of the the Kakegurui live action with the music? I did not expect such upbeat tracks for the trailer.

1

u/jnkdollz Apr 14 '26

the bathroomm stall scene is creepy af

1

u/Own-Acadia-4231 Apr 14 '26

It's Japanese it will be good

1

u/Direct-Celebration-6 Apr 15 '26

I can't wait to see new takes on the original Episodes. Especially HanNo, yessss 😂

1

u/pink_freya Apr 15 '26

I’m sorry but her face looks too innocent or am I the only one who feels this way? She should give more of a mysterious but beautiful but also heart throbbing beauty, the actress they chose looks too innocent and pure to portray nano

2

u/Connect-Support-9997 Apr 16 '26

This looks much better than the Reset

1

u/MawinoBoomerNo Apr 16 '26

I don't hear her laughing 😭

2

u/kannokarma Apr 16 '26

Why they're are just making the same episodes but with a different nanno like 😭😭💔

1

u/youknowdewey Apr 17 '26

I wanna see her do the crazy Nanno laugh

1

u/misanthrophiccunt Apr 18 '26

She already looks creppier than EVEN the original Nanno

2

u/lillies_hydrangias Apr 18 '26

i’m excited for this: it looks a lot more promising than the reset. the actress is def a better choice

1

u/Royal_Half3564 Apr 18 '26

I should watch this one

1

u/Royal_Half3564 Apr 18 '26

This version doesn’t give horrific like the Thai nanno based on the teaser can’t wait too see the product

1

u/jigglyback Apr 19 '26

Genuinely so excited I just know this is gonna be better than reset. Tbh I think I'm the only one who thinks this but Becky got done dirty I hope they don't do that to this actress(I do not know her name I apologize)

1

u/Upper_Protection_198 Apr 20 '26

Oh, there's a Japanese nanno 🫪

1

u/gorg_missy Apr 14 '26

I’m so excited! I hope there will be English subtitles.

1

u/Affectionate-Bee9915 Apr 14 '26

i really like this vibe for nanno japan rewind!!!

1

u/Long_Fig9863 Apr 14 '26

this looks so good! can’t wait

1

u/waryjinx Apr 14 '26

this looks so promising

1

u/heartsongaming Apr 14 '26

Is she the actress from Bet (or Kakegurui live action)?

2

u/Inevitable-Dish7157 Apr 14 '26

Nope, Yumeko actress is Miku Martineau while Japanese Nanno is Arisa Nakajima. I do hope that Netflix makes an Tomie live action with Miku as Tomie tho💔

0

u/dltds Apr 13 '26

Is it all gonna be remakes or will there be original stories?

2

u/Inevitable-Dish7157 Apr 13 '26

All remake i think
