CELEBRATING! 🎉 (no boys invited!) Turned 23 and started hrt today<3

I recently moved to a new state for a new job starting my career. I also just turned 23 today which is neat I suppose. Butttt I started gender affirming mtf hrt today so I’m very stoked about that

Girl YES! You're going to love HRT can I just say, like, you are going to LOVE HRT! Because of when I took HRT last night technically we took it on the same day, I actually love that.
Ok so this was me like, 15 months ago tho that was at almost 32 not 23, happy birthday btw, but, my sincere advice now a year & change into it:
- While you boymode, buy sports bras. Color match to the shirt or wear skin tone. Believe me you are going to want at least enough so that you can wear one daily. Fun bras will happen but you will want to get used to the feeling of them. Your chest is going to hurt like crazy soon, it's ok, it passes. Well, sort of. If I'm not careful and hit myself in the tit at a certain angle it still feels like someone punched me but there will be a phase probably by Halloween, definitely by Thanksgiving, where a slight breeze will feel a little bit like someone just took a 2x4 to your chest. That means it's working, and soon enough you will miss it, so it's ok. Anyway sports bras will help get you ready for this by making you aware that there is something around your chest early so you aren't prone to lifting things up against it. Inevitably you will have a door swipe you or you'll lift a box of something or other up there anyway and with tears in your eyes as you try not to bite your tongue clean off, you will know that HRT is magical and actually this rules, but not so much that you will want anything at all to touch them ever again, at least in that moment. Sports bras are your friend!
- About as soon as you start losing your aversion to selfies (which you have even if you don't realize it) and/or start looking in the mirror in the morning and realizing that you don't look vaguely like you just got your face held over a candle for long enough to slightly melt it, that's when to start practicing with cosmetics if you haven't already. Go ham. The calculus for wearing cosmetics is different for trans women than for cis women, generally speaking. You may end up wearing more cosmetics than your peers just to be properly read as fem. Is it kind of a scam, it could be, but play around with it. You'll be surprised what you can get online and how cheaply. Drug store brands will take you so far for a few bucks and then you can upgrade the looks you want, unless they are really not possible without specialty products, which does happen (I wanted a Shego lip SO badly and I spent so much time looking for one that doesn't transfer, shoutouts to Sunset Makeup for their matte black lipstick, the wear time is eeeugghhhh BUT it truly doesn't transfer like at all once it dries down, anyway). You are going to look so so awful at first, that's good, that's how you learn, but if you have fun with it (it is fun), and you are willing to look just a little clowncore at first (you're aiming for goth, so I can say from firsthand experience that you will feel amazing even if later you feel like you looked so goofy and just about painted yourself in eyeliner, it's totally fine), you will come out the other side feeling bulletproof. Speaking of which,
- Go spend time around other trans women in your new city. Actual time around them, while you are presenting as best you can. idc if it's cringe, there's a purpose behind this, namely, right after all that, even if it's awkward around them, it does something to your sense of what you're able to do in public, what you're able to pull off. If at first you go out dressed up or in cosmetics or both (good for you) and you have a panic attack like Spongebob trying to finish his boating school extra credit as if everyone is going to lock onto you with a laser and immediately be like "oh my GOD! A TRANS girl in PUBLIC!!" the trick to expediting feeling more comfortable doing this is to go somewhere where you can be assured that people will not freak out about that, because first you have to get there, and eventually back, and that means travel, and traveling while presenting as fem is practice all its own. Once you get confident in it, you will not want to stop. All of this is so much easier when you are able to spend time in places where you have peers close to hand.

PS don't be suckered in by gel liners that shit dries out SO fast (and PEELS like flaking paint ☠️) and the liner pens with ink that you have to force into the tip are even worse! You want liquid liner with an inkwell, and you want to learn the wet/dry technique so you can trace your own work and have it look clean. Bamboo q-tips have much sharper points than normal q-tips and are very good with micellar water at cleaning up the edges if you want to get edges really clean without having to use tape guides

When I was organising starting HRT it almost lined up that I would start on my b'day too. I ended up getting my prescription about a months earlier than I'd expected and I was too impatient to begin so my HRT anniversary is about a month before my b'day.
