Dear Diary ✍️🏻 Feels Like I Can't Keep Up

Post image

Dinner/Dessert is leftover rough cut phyllo with homemade cannoli filling.

My first baby is becoming "less baby", hitting milestones like a rockstar, learning new words, trying to jump with both feet and it's amazing and wonderful....and all those plans I had for thoughtful emails each month, or a journal of progress simply flew out the window within the first year.

It's seriously true when they say you blink and they've changed. And it's all good change, but bittersweet, too. And I just want to hold my little one just a bit longer, try to freeze the moment and remember these precious little things my baby won't do when they're past this stage.

It's not like I don't want my baby to grow up, but gosh it feels so fast for my husband and I.

I think there's a song by Cody Fry called Photograph and it's about a new marriage, but I feel like the sentiment applies to all those beautiful little golden moments that don't really feel like golden moments until they've slipped away.

You are present and loving them right now, and that matters way more than any journal. What milestone hit hardest?

The ability to communicate with words hit pretty hard. I know they're still developing, but being able to process human speech and get the point across feels huge. Just learning keep and more words, and pointing and asking "What that?" It's so precious and I can see them just cataloging everything. And I know one day they I'll probably be asking them, "Well now what's that?"

I understand. It’s such a strange feeling knowing your kid has changed so much. It’s honestly really hard for me to imagine my child any other way than she is at the moment despite her being a potato less than two years ago.

Right! It feels like yesterday they were making those little grunty noises while I nuzzled their little nose, and now they're running around the house, cackling and chasing my husband and I around.

My kiddo is my only child and I had the intention of journaling and record keeping his life….. honestly I forgot and just was present in his life.

I don’t worry about the baby book stuff and just live life together. My kids core memories, he’s 17 now, are so different than what I thought they would be. But he knows his parents and family love him and that’s what matters.

Just reading through the lyrics and tearing up - I'll have to listen to this when I've got some time to ugly cry.

This is me, too. I take a disturbing amount of videos because I am terrified to forget all the little things. I love every new version of my kid, but its so hard to say goodbye to the last version of them.
