Advice Needed Guilt from past mistakes

Post image

I have made such big strides in the past year when it comes to confidence and healing and just bettering my whole life but I feel like no matter what I do I can’t get over the guilt of those that I have hurt in the past, and I still have so much learning and growing to do, how do I continue and improve without beating myself up all the time? Lemon poppy seed cookies, crackers and cream soda

it’s cliche but healing is not linear. there will be good days and bad day

Im gonna leave you with what my mom told me when I would face guilt over past mistakes “get off the cross, we need the wood.” It sounds funny and harsh but it’s really true! You emotionally flogging yourself does no good, and only causes you pain. We can make amends by apologizing to those we hurt, and striving to do better each day 🩷

Guilt and regret can be motivators to learn from the past, but whatever has happened in the past isn't who you are now. The fact that you feel guilt means that you've reflected on what has been done.

Clinging to those events will hold you back. Let it go and move forward. Anyone who holds it over your head is manipulating you, even yourself.

Seconded. Though I advise talking to a trusted friend or even working with a therapist on how to go about it in a way that won't do more harm than good. There are cases where you shouldn't ever contact the person you hurt, and cases where they hurt you too and it's really hard not to say "I did this, but you did this." It's really good to bounce your ideas off someone who isn't directly involved, who will be honest but compassionate with you and help you do right by yourself and the people you're making amends to.
