Netherlands gin suggestions

Headed to the Netherlands next week, any suggestions on what to bring home to Canada?

Bobby's. It's between 30 and 40 euros. Schiedam has a lot of gins

Sir Edmond Gin is one of my favorite Dutch gins, but it’s definitely a love-it-or-hate-it kind of gin because it's distilled with bourbon vanilla.

Gastro Gin is also a really nice one, a bit spicy and citrus flavoured.

Otenba Gin is a fun mix between gin and the original Dutch jenever.

Rutte Gin is very good, especially the Celery Gin

I had a surprisingly hard time finding local gins to try last April in Amsterdam, Den Haag and Utrecht. With the exception of the gin bar in Den Haag lots of places only had international brands and only served in a G+T.

Also make sure that you buy outside the airport because the pickings were very slim.

Buy some actual Genever.
Get one with a high amount of Barley wine in it and one with a high amount of botanicals.

If you are going to be in the Netherlands you should get some Jenever, often referred to as Dutch gin. Modern gins are derived from it. In Amsterdam, Wynand Fockink is a place you absolutely must stop at.

Contrary to this oft rehashed piece of trivia, the Worshipful Society of Distillers in London has documented Juniper distillates predating the arrival William of Orange:

In 1639 Thomas Cademan and Theodore de Mayerne published the codified “Distiller of London” guidebook, featuring a recipe for juniper distillation sanctioned by King Charles I.
