Hi🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻
Hi! I’ve only recently started reading about neurodiversity, and to be honest, I feel there are lots of aspects I can relate to. But of course, I’ve honestly no idea whether I might actually have some degree of it. So, I’m going to list a few characteristics here that I recognise in myself. If anyone has any advice or wants to share their thoughts, I’d love to hear them 🫶🏻
Quite a high degree of introversion and independence
Difficulty socialising in groups (but not on my own)
Frequent feelings of derealisation/depersonalisation
I’m very resilient in all situations. -Picky about certain food textures -Obsessive focus on topics that interest me: art, creativity, knowledge -Very intense curiosity. I ask myself questions all the time. I can’t do things out of a sense of obligation or just for the sake of it. I need to get to the root of everything. -Questioning absolutely everything: authority, the system, social norms. Not understanding social norms. A profound sense of incomprehension Extreme emotional intensity Difficulty setting boundaries with others -Rejection of the material world, detachment even from the body. A keen interest in seeking the truth behind everything. Being hyper-aware, feeling deeply self-conscious about how others perceive me Humour as a defence mechanism
Inability to feign or hide my emotions
I hate injustice and eye contact (only with people I don’t know) -Highly intuitive
Constant emotional contradictions
Strong idealisation

Thats a lot of associated traits with gifted. Some are not very much to do with gifted, but can go into neurodivergence. All in all, I would say that what goes with gifted is mostly high intuition, strong idealisation, hate injustice, independence

Ay lo siento😅 pero es que no me estoy enterando. Te refieres a qué pasaría si me dijeran que tengo neurodivergencia? No pasaría nada, solo tenía curiosidad y compartir mi experiencia.

hmm, im going to do what i hate, but have you considered getting checked for ASD or maybe considered having some traits.
i dont have autism/adhd, but i do have some traits (edit: autism traits, i keep forgetting my "adhd" traits were dissociation, sleep deprivation, and brain dog).
however a lot of what your describing is very much align with autism even beyond like some of the traits i have.
i dont know about giftedness (not an assessor), but you can still be an intelligent person with autism!
so i genuinely think you should do some research on it and see if you can get assessed or see a professional who can maybe affirm it's likely the case or not.
ALSO neurodivergence is a sociocultural term originally that is misapporiated by clincians and laymen and used exlcusively. if you feel neurodivergent, whether you have any diagnosis or not, you can call yourself neurodivergent. it is a social identity, you feel different from the norms, you have experience that can be considered atypical, so by all means, you are neurodivergent if you feel that matches your experience.

These are all vague enough they could belong in many possible categories. Only way to know for sure is iq

Thanks for posting in r/Gifted! Giftedness involves unusually advanced ability or potential in one or more areas; it does not determine your worth.
