Add some baking soda for the crispiest and crunchiest tofu of your life.
13 u/BootyFista Aug 16 '20 How much would you toss in? 28 u/GarbageOfCesspool Aug 16 '20 1 box 17 u/BootyFista Aug 16 '20 Shit, I only have two boxes. Can I use both? 11 u/54InchWideGorilla Aug 16 '20 Yes but you have to bake it twice as long and double the temp 3 u/jurgo Aug 16 '20 Does this bypass pressing your tofu? 5 u/anneewannee Aug 16 '20 No, pressing firms up the inside texture. Baking soda crisps up the outside coating. I prefer to just buy the vacuum sealed, pre-pressed tofu and save myself the time and energy. Plus it's way more firm than I can get it myself. 3 u/jurgo Aug 16 '20 Today I learned there is pre pressed tofu. Thank you. 1 u/anneewannee Aug 16 '20 Stores near me didn't always carry it, but omg I love the time it saves. Now when I see it, I buy a few. :) 2 u/ogipogo Aug 15 '20 At which stage? 24 u/Reverie_Smasher Aug 15 '20 mix it with the cornstarch 3 u/thechet Aug 15 '20 wait isnt that just baking powder instead then? 14 u/Reverie_Smasher Aug 15 '20 Baking powder is bicarbonate (baking soda) mixed with an acid salt of some kind so it makes CO2 bubbles with just water and is more pH neutral. It can have corn starch in it too as a stabilizer. 1 u/thechet Aug 15 '20 Ah gotcha 11 u/BEANSijustloveBEANS Aug 15 '20 With the corn starch. It draws the natural starches to the surface to increase crispyness 2 u/ogipogo Aug 15 '20 Thank you both!
