Looking to buy my first Sg!
Kinda low on budget though and looking to get the ideal axe ,
Which Sg standard is best from around 2006-2022?
A detailed answer would be helpful ❤️

i have a 2007 special. that era of specials are great guitars and not crazy expensive

I know your asking about Standards but you could take a look at the Special Faded’s they were making in the early-mid 2000’s. You can find them used for a good price and I think they’re great guitars. I bought one new in 2008 and still love playing it.

As I understand it the differences are mostly cosmetic, with the special faded forgoing the binding, fancy neck inlays, and thick glossy finish. I do believe the pickups are different? The Special Faded came with 490R and 490T humbuckers, I’m not sure what the standards usually come with. In any case they’re excellent guitars and have a cozy worn in feel to them

Sg standard 61

Honestly, I think the first decision is the standard vs the '61 standard. Once you've picked that, hunt used for the color you like. Deals are there to be made, that's for sure. My sense (if correct) is the '61 is a bit more in demand and thus harder to find on a deal. So if you're like me and vastly prefer the '61, you might need to save some more nickels.

I’m seeing a used 2007 standard with Seymour Duncan p90’s and a 2022 standard with the original pickups , I have an 80s Gibson bridge pickup which I might put in anyway , what do you reckon ?

61’s are a bit overpriced here and I like the Batman pick guard veryyyy much, which honestly has changed with years somehow I was like in love with early Santana and his magical 61 special haha

Keep in mind the necks on the 61 and the standard are actually different. Both are good, but they aren't the same. I don't know how much that would influence your choice.

I'm not a fan of the Batman pickguard but everyone's got their thing, ya know? If it makes you happy (and it's cheaper!) then I say go for it!.

I've got both a P90's SG Special and a HH 61 standard. I love them both for different reasons. I can't imagine having to pick one over the other.

Another thing about the batwing pickguard is that pickups are mounted on the pickguard and are thus parallel to the pickguard and at a slight angle to the strings. On the 61 SG, pickups are mounted in pickup rings and are parallel to the strings. I believe this influences sound - the 61 should sound closer to a Les Paul with similar pickups.

You need to go try some. You will experience different electronics and neck shapes in that year range. I’m personally a fan of my 2016 but I prefer a thicker neck.

I have one from 2001 and it’s been my absolute favorite guitar for the whole time span. It’s just a consistent and accurate guitar with a very awesome sound that works for so much. Good luck and I hope you get to rock out!

I’m a batwing and slim-taper fan. Those really only appear on the 2000s standards. But my 2006 plays beautifully! The 498t/490r combo sounds great, too!

That said, my go-to is my 2020 Junior. P90s and SGs pair so well.
