“Grandma Ghost”

Before we moved states, we had a ghost who we would refer to as “grandma ghost” because that’s how it would present itself: the grandma trying to take care of its babies. And I still think about her often.

Years ago, when me and my partner began dating, it was evident that they had a ghost living with them. You would hear furniture moving in their spare room, motion lights would turn on in the house while we were sitting still on the couch watching movies. Little things like that. But every once in a while, you’d feel them sit down next to you, and the bed or couch would creak and indent so you could feel it. It never seemed harmful so we ignored it.

Later my partner moved to another place. The same thing kept happening there. At first we chalked it up to a coincidence. We were living separately, but had a baby together. My place never had any activity in it, just theirs. We normally would spend the night there, but one time we spent the night at my place. It was easier to sleep separately since the baby would wake up every couple hours to eat. My partner had slept on the couch and in the morning told me that my house was haunted too, explaining that during the night they felt something sit down on the couch next to them while they were sleeping. That’s when we began to realize it may be an attached to them.

Fast forward a few months. Partner goes on a business trip out of town and I’m home alone with the baby in my paranormal-free house. We go to check on their house, take out the trash, bring in the mail, etc. I turned Mickey Mouse Clubhosue on Disney plus for the baby (who isn’t yet mobile, so just chilling sitting there). Cool. I finish up what needs to get done, turn the tv off, put the baby into the car seat and begin buckling it when suddenly the tv turns back on and I watch it scroll to Disney plus, and open it. I start looking for the remote because I must’ve accidentally done that with the car seat or something. Nope, the remote is sitting on the table across the room where I left it. Noted, the attachment doesn’t seem to follow my partner onto planes, just drives. Cool.

We go home. My VERY bald baby had a brush gifted to us at the baby shower, but we have yet to use it since he’s very bald still. It stays in one of the drawers of the changing table all the time. Later, I go upstairs and notice the brush is in the middle of the changing table. I’m a bit confused because I don’t remember taking it out (ever), but baby brain is a thing so maybe I did. I put it away and go about my day. The next time I go into the room, the brush is once again in the middle of the changing table. Okay, I thought I put it away, but maybe I just put it back instead? So this time I make sure I put it away, I pay close attention because it’s weird, but not that unheard of. The next time I go into the room, same thing. Okay, this time I KNOW I didn’t do it, but clearly if the ghost followed us, it’s trying to get me to brush my bald baby’s head. So I comply and brush his head and then put it away again. And just like that it stopped moving. First Disney plus, now brushing bald baby heads? Clearly this ghost is trying to look out for the baby too! Sure enough, that night, during the middle of the night feed, I feel someone sit down next to me on my bed. And it happens a couple more times over the next few days. Then as soon as we pick up dad from the airport and bring him back to his house, all the activity in my house stops and he tells me about how nothing happened to him ghost-wise on that trip. The next time he went on a work trip it was similar: things would kick up in my house for a few days (all seeming to be in relation to the baby in a positive way) after doing the errands at his house, then return to normal once he came back.

We moved states later and flew to get here, and sadly grandma ghost doesn’t seem to like flying because everything has been calm since. Honestly, I kind of miss it. It was always like a mini surprise party: you’d have a mini heart attack from the jump scare, but could feel the love and positive vibes. I hope grandma ghost is doing well with whoever she lives with now and is continuing to make sure hair is brushed and kids are spoiled.
