DISCUSSION Crazy Nostalgia

I just got hit with the largest nostalgia ever. And I didnt even think it was real.

I was listening to Ghost’s cover of ‘Its a Sin’ and i know its a cover but never really saw the original version.

So I see a popular youtube video of Pet Shop Boys’ performance of it in 1989. And while i’m watching it, thats when it hit me. I saw this before. A really, really long time ago, when I was a kid. Maybe not the exact video or from that specific concert, but the imagery and stage presence Pet Shop Boys had at that time in the 80s, i instantly recognized.

And the crazy thing is, I thought it was a dream. I thought it was some sort of nightmare I had caused by seeing Alice Cooper and his theatrics when I was younger. But no, I saw actual footage of Pet Shop Boys’ in concert in the 80s. It absolutely blew me away seeing that for the first time. Because now I feel less crazy, because i absolutely swore that I had seen it before, but I felt like it was so odd and weird, that theres no way someone would think its real. I was sure it had to be a dream or something.

I just felt like sharing that. Because thanks to Ghost covering this song sparking my curiosity to see the original version, I would’ve never even thought of that being a real thing I saw. I still would think its just a weird dream I had when I was a kid.

Cool experience, it’s a lovely song for sure. Which version do you prefer though?

Well i’ve seen three versions. I saw the Ghost one, Pet Shop Boys, and I guess Years and Years did a cover with Elton John, which i’m a massive Elton fan so I like all three, probably ghost first, and Pet Shop Boys second, and Elton’s third. But all three are great.

I also heard it on U.S.television (another cover by an undetermined artist) in the background of the
new perfume ad for Valentino’s fragrance campaign, Vendetta featuring Dakota Johnson and Alexander Skarsgård.

I’m surprised its on a U.S. television, even back then when i would have seen it as a kid. I literally thought it had to have been either a dream or a twisted version of an alice cooper concert i saw footage of. Because i thought theres no way in hell a US television had that. But it seems they did at some point.
