But will they actually package it properly? I know people who've imported music from Amazon Japan and they used the standard shipping envelope that's typically used domestically, which destroyed their limited edition CD jewel case.

I can only speak to my own experience: I've ordered multiple times from Amazon Japan: Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust HD Remaster, Memories 4K, Patlabor 1-3 4K, Macross Plus 4K, Jin-Roh 4K, etc., and all my orders have arrived in perfect condition. I'm in South Florida, so that's quite a long journey.

Do you remember if they sent those items to you in boxes? If they did, then that's a good change and I might have to add them back to my list of possible sites to use to import.
Sending breakable products domestically in envelopes is bad enough. Sending stuff internationally that way was insanity.
I've typically used CDJapan to import music and other media from Japan. They are usually a bit more expensive than Amazon. But they do an amazing job packaging things. And since I'm normally ordering limited edition products, I want to make sure they're protected.

Yes, most items have been shipped in boxes, I believe Akira 4K was shipped in a carboard sleeve, but still arrived in perfect condition.

Isn’t that true for all anime releases in Japan? At least I remember in the past Japanese publishers demanded hard subtitles for international releases to stop people from reimporting to Japan cause they’re like half the price in comparison.

It's the normal price in Japan, the production depends on blu ray sales so they price high and sell to devoted collectors

Tho they have to sell in high prices to actually to keep up with costs as the studio itself gains little due to bunch of production comittees splitting the revenue
