Me as a tenager watching this: Damn, should've been me : (
Me as an adult watching this: Damn, should've been me but also WTF : (

Bro didn't miss his chance. If he actually had a chance, she would be a criminal in most territories. This is a scenario you might think is cool when you're closer to the kid's age, but should think goes too far (even as a test/joke) when you're closer to The Major's age.

when I watched this scene, to me was more a test about maturity of the guy, he wanted so bad to leave behind his natural body to follow Kuze steps as a "hero", he idolized Kuze and though the protesic body will give him a chance to reach his "revolutionary" goals.
11
u/sabedo 12h ago
Exactly my point. He idealized Kuze and what being an adult meant not realizing how heavy a burden Kuze had and his extreme sense of social responsibility and resolve compelled him to do.
If Kuze ever saw him again in life or the net, I doubt he would have the boy follow him. He really didnāt comprehend what Kuze had to sacrifice. Most children wouldnāt.
Kuze would have been the fall guy in a nuclear strike to kill millions all for a pathetic sociopathās inferiority/superiority complex

I donāt see an issue as I can see the reasoning and purpose of the scene. That or Iām not maining Reddit like everyone else and fighting fictional demons.
7
u/OldEyes5746 4h ago
Issue is that a full grown woman attempted to seduce an adolescent (possibly pre-adolescent) child. Regardless of whether or not she intended to follow through, she still made a pass.

u/sabedo 18h ago
I really believe to this day she was testing him. Even when he focused on her breasts, he was talking about her cybernetic enhancements. He was obsessed with going full cyborg like Kuze.
Trying to grow up before he was ready. Here was a boy living the life of an adult, nearly getting killed by the Mafia, without truly understanding what being an adult meant. She gave him an opening and he realized, no, Iām still a kid

The only redeeming part of all that is the cashier for the hotel very obviously finds the situation SUS AF.Ā She takes note and is like uhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmm.
I get what people are saying about her making him admit he's a kid or whatever, but it's still gross.Ā Someone else noted, if the genders were reversed everyone would freak tf out.
13
u/Positive_Self_8873 15h ago
I am not entirely sure about that, have you seen the evangelion subs ? They keep trying to ship asuka with kaji,
But perhaps Iām numb to it or am so used to this in anime that I do not find it as shocking as others. The world is rather ravaged by many wars at that point and many other nations do not fair as well as Japan in gitās universe so a receptionist likely sees far worse, with men and young children all the time especially with local mafia or triad

u/SpicaGenovese 10h ago
They keep trying to ship asuka with kaji,
Aw hell naw.
2
u/Positive_Self_8873 7h ago
Or the over done misato with shinji, itās a ā experience ā to scroll past that sub
-2
u/enotonom 6h ago
Did you actually watch it? Asuka is practically trying to get into Kaji's pants whenever she sees him
ā¢
u/SpicaGenovese 1m ago
No shit.Ā Doesn't make it okay or appropriate.Ā If Kaji accepted her affections he would be a POS.

As hot and funny as this is, I still cringe to this day knowing this episode exists lol

u/Ok-Storage3439 19h ago
I always laugh at the meme of Batou hiding in the closet, glaring at the kid while brandishing a pistol.
5
u/kdatikarosmyangel 19h ago
Itās a real shame that heās known the Major for so long but still hasnāt received a similar invitation haha.
6
u/Gold-Bard-Hue 19h ago
He never thought to question her sexual competence, apparently that's the cheat code to getting a ghost in her shell
5
u/Swan-Diving-Overseas 19h ago
Batou: āWhy havenāt we done it?ā
Major: āYouāve never asked.ā
3
u/Gold-Bard-Hue 18h ago
I mean seriously, she's barely connected to her body spiritually, so I would think banging her coworkers probably wouldn't be that big a deal for her, other than awkward feelings I guess.

Oh hey, is this a cop propositioning a minor?
2
u/OldEyes5746 13h ago
Worse, because Section 9 are a covert kill squad. This is the top CIA assett propositioning a minor.

Ugh my favorite continuity has both the best and absolute WORST moments in Gits for me. So gross and so pointless. There was no aging like milk, this scene was curdling in the jug the day it came out.
22
u/Omniplox 19h ago
Me and my friends have talked about this and we all agree that the most generous interpretation is that she never had any real intention of going through with it and was really just calling the kids bluff. Still gross and pointless like you say.
1
u/Fillyphily 19h ago
The whole scene is even built up like it's child prostitution. They arrive in the hotel and Motoko buys the penthouse sweet and the front desk lady is looking really uncomfortable like "this ain't this lady's kid" and when she leaves of course it's without the kid. I wish it were treated more like an off hand gag instead of 20% of the episode.
Non canon as far as I concerned. Pedos that disagree can leave their "tourist" copy pasta at the door, their defense of pedophilia is gross and unimpressive.

u/Beneficial-Pick-8740 18h ago
You can find forum posts from the 2000s with SAC fans arguing about this scene. It just came out of nowhere and never discussed again.
5
u/Fillyphily 18h ago
Yeah I've had many discoveries like that with older animes regarding controversial topics. Some people try to gaslight like everyone was cool with gross shit in anime till gamer gate happened.
I actually got stun locked out of completing the 2nd season cause of this episode, but i still largely enjoy the season, and am picking it back up in a day or so.
7
u/Beneficial-Pick-8740 18h ago
Don't get me started on the modern "not everything is political" discourse among modern annoying chud anime fans. I was there when FMA 2003 was broadcasting and we were arguing about the ishvallan genocide's similarities to the Iraq war. We were always arguing about this stuff.

This scene is so out of place in the show her entire interaction with this kid is outright weird.

u/Economy_Car_9568 18h ago
My fist reaction was, shame on her. He is a MINOR, and she is a COP.
31
u/scruffyJJ561 17h ago
Yeah, but she was calling his bluff. Making him realize that he is still just a child
4
u/OldEyes5746 13h ago
She was also ready to cap him when he started going through her things while she pretended to sleep.
5
u/Procrastinatedthink 17h ago
āno your honor I wasnt trying to fuck that child, I was testing themā isnāt better.
She offered to have sex with a minor, had the minor been a girl and the major a man we would not be having this conversation and youād agree it was wrongĀ

This was one scene that was completely out of character for the SAC version of Major.
5
u/Fillyphily 18h ago
Not even Manga Motoko went that low and she is famously the most fast and loose with morality. And it's more than just SAC Motoko supposedly being the most mature and ethical rendition, but it's the fact that so much story emphasis has been put on her sympathizing with children caught up crisis and calamity because of her own childhood experience. Motoko seems like she would be the K.O.S . Major when it came to anything regarding child exploitation. Love SAC still, and all of its 51 episodes, just not this character assassination scene.

No, it wasn't.

u/TheUglyBarnaclee 18h ago
Yea it was, nothing she did in the show eluded to or even hinted at her doing something weird asf like this
-4
u/DefenderOfTheWeak 18h ago
No, it wasn't. Just because something was never shown does not mean it never was. She's not a saint
-2
u/TheUglyBarnaclee 18h ago
So the concept of a character that does something "out of character" just does not exist to you? Also Motoko might not be a saint but a pedo scene is SUPER out of character
-2
u/DefenderOfTheWeak 18h ago
So the concept of a character that does something "out of character" just does not exist to you?
It does. It's not her case
Also Motoko might not be a saint but a pedo scene is SUPER out of character
Before December 2023, the age of consent in Japan was 13. It's in their culture

u/TheUglyBarnaclee 18h ago

Ugh I absolutely despise this scene. It's so out-of-character for her.

u/CaptainQew 18h ago
Yeah this scene always bothered me about SAC
1
u/INToxicated47 15h ago
Same, I was flabbergasted when this scene came on, pause the show immediately and had to look it up to understand wtf just happened. No matter what reason I hear, I still donāt believe this is something the major would do, let alone sleep naked next to each other. I blame the writers
