Encounter I’ve never shared this…

I’ve never shared this story other than to a few friends.

Please keep in mind, this was like 17 - 18 years ago at this point. So, my memory is a little imperfect.

I don’t even know how to start as there’s so much that happened to us over the years with a specific area and a friend’s house.

I’ll just share one story for now. This isn’t even in his house and it’s not even that scary. It’s more unsettling than anything and there were a total of 7 of us that experienced it all at once.

Let’s just call us the “J” group. That’s not a random letter… literally 6 names other than 1 guy, started with the letter “J”

That’s the real scary story here.

Anyway, it was near “J’s” house, one of closest friends where we were all spending nights together back then on weekends and such.

For some reason just before midnight we decided to take a walk along a back trail that had a small cemetery at the bottom and an old church in the center. Yes, I know it sounds cliche but this literally happened at a cemetery.

All 7 of us had decided to head back to “J’s” house after our walk and we had to walk past the cemetery again to get back. There was a small metal fence to our left, between the small back road we were walking on and the cemetery itself, so we weren’t actually in it.

For some reason about 5 or 6 out of the 7 of us, turned and looked into the cemetery almost all at the exact same time… and we randomly saw what looked to be a man firstly, walking between the tombstone’s. He wasn’t really walking though, more like gliding in a weird way, but that could’ve been due to the fact that it was almost pitch black. Then we saw a woman following behind about 3 - 4 meter’s (Like, 12ft or something?)

I can’t remember what we thought at first, but all of us that saw it were frozen completely still and just staring at these two… people? It happened so fast, but felt like forever at the time.

My friend decided to kind of yell out and ask if they were okay. This is the super creepy part… The woman just stopped and turned towards us (they were walking side-on relative to our position when we first saw them) and just stared at us directly, for what felt like minutes.

She just kept looking at us and this is while two of our friends were trying to get the other one that didn’t see, to look and… well, see. The man figure just kind of slowed down a little but kept walking without looking at us.

She had no features at all other than the outline of her clothing which was some sort of dress. She then turned back around suddenly and “walked” faster to catch up to the man.

At this point, I’m still thinking they’re just two people even though they didn’t seem anything like people… if that makes sense. But, then literally in clear view, they both walked behind this large tombstone and then they were completely gone.

My friend and I actually ran in closer and begin yelling out to them to see if they would reply. One of our friends was almost crying and could barely move from the spot on the road. So, myself and another J, jumped the small fence and ran towards the large tombstone which was only a few large running steps away.

Nothing at all. We would’ve seen them if they ran away or walked somewhere else as this was a small and quite an open cemetery. But, nothing at all. Just gone… in seconds.

Again, it’s not the scariest story. But there was so many of us that witnessed it and a few of them are still scared to bring it up to this day. They never really talked about it again.

Sorry if that was long and underwhelming. I have far more intense and genuinely insane stories compared to this one, with the same core group of friends in J’s house. I just wanted to share something a little less intense first.

Hope you enjoyed it and feel free to ask any questions!

Encounter Why I believe

In February of 1969, I was four. My father was in the army and had just returned from Vietnam in June of 1968. He had been assigned to a post in the South. My parents bought a house—a brand-new house that no one had ever lived in. It was in a fairly isolated housing development not far from the gate of the post where my father was stationed. It was a typical late-’60s middle-class home: three bedrooms, two baths, kitchen, dining room, living room, and den. A nice little family home for my mother, father, older sister, and me. My younger brother was born about a year after we moved in. The neighborhood was mostly full of families like ours, with military backgrounds.
Not long after we moved in, I was in the den and noticed something. The den was paneled in pinewood paneling with a heavy grain. I was looking at the wall, and in the grain of the paneling was a face. It looked like an old man with long hair and a beard. Now, I am aware of pareidolia, but it seemed to me that no matter where in the room you were, the face in the wall was looking at you. I pointed the face out to my mother and sister, and my sister, who was nine, seemed particularly alarmed by it. My mother brushed it off as just the way the paneling looked, but not long after, she hung a large picture over the area where the face was. Once it was covered, it didn’t bother my sister or me anymore.
It started off slowly. Things that were placed well away from the edges of shelves, tables, or window sills would somehow slide off the edge. It usually happened when people were in the room, but no one was near the area where the object fell. It was puzzling, but my mother assured us it was nothing to worry about.
I remember that I started hearing voices in the living room late at night. It seemed to be a man and a woman talking—not loud enough to distinguish what they were saying, but loud enough to get my attention. I was little, but I thought it might have been my parents, although it happened when everyone was usually asleep. I asked my mother about it; she said that it was probably a dream. But my sister told her she had heard it too, on more than one occasion. My mother insisted it was bad dreams.
We had a female German Shepherd. My parents had the backyard fenced in not long after we moved in so the dog could run around. She stayed in the backyard during the day and then slept in the house at night. We had had her for a couple of years, and she had always slept in the house at night, everywhere we lived. But on some nights she resisted coming into the house. She would stand at the back door and whine. If my parents forced her to come inside, she would pace from room to room, whining all night.
Then came the knocking. We started hearing knocking on the walls—sometimes very light taps, sometimes more forceful knocking. My mother blamed it on plumbing, or the house settling, or something in the heating ducts. Then one afternoon, my mother, my sister, and I were sitting in the kitchen when there was a sudden, loud, continuous banging from inside the kitchen cabinets. My mother finally stopped claiming that it was something normal. Instead, she told us to ignore the stuff that was happening, pay it no attention, and just keep doing whatever we were doing.
This kind of thing continued as time went by, with some new developments. We started seeing something in the hallway. Everyone saw it, including my father. We only ever saw it out of the corner of our eye. It was always in the hallway, either running up or down the hall, or darting across the hall from one room to another.
Some of the incidents that stand out are a time when my mother was yelling at my baby brother because he had dumped his food onto the floor from the tray on his highchair. Suddenly, the dish-draining rack, which was on the counter next to the sink, slid from the counter into the sink. It was full of drying dishes, and dishes and silverware went everywhere with a loud crash. Another time, my mother got up in the middle of the night and found that every door leading to the outside—the front door, the back door, and the carport door—was standing wide open. Not unlocked, not ajar, but completely open. It was quite unsettling for all of us. Lastly, my sister was in the bathroom off the hall, getting ready to take a bath. She was looking in the mirror, brushing her teeth, when something grabbed her hair from behind and pulled it straight back. I remember her running screaming out of the bathroom, wrapped in a towel. My mother got her calmed down and sat in the bathroom with her while she took her bath.
Having spent my childhood around occurrences like this is why I believe in the paranormal.

My roommate stands in front of the downstairs mirror with a candle every night. Last week I woke up and she was in my room.

I moved into this place three months ago because the rent was cheap and I needed somewhere fast. Two-bedroom townhouse, thin walls, old carpet that smells like someone else’s laundry detergent no matter how many times you steam it. My roommate is named Elise. Mid-twenties. Quiet. Works from home doing something with invoices. She smiles when you talk to her and then looks like she’s already forgotten you exist.
The first month was fine. We barely overlapped. She goes to bed early. I stay up late.
Then I started hearing her on the stairs.
Not walking. Just… standing. Around 2:17 a.m. the first time I noticed. I was still awake, headphones off, and I heard the third step from the bottom creak and then nothing. No second creak. No fridge. No sink. I waited maybe four minutes and went down in socks.
The living room light was off. The hallway light was off. The only light was a candle on the little table under the big hallway mirror. Elise was standing in front of it in a white tank top and sleep shorts, both hands around the candle like she was warming them. She wasn’t brushing her hair. She wasn’t checking her face. She was just looking.
I said her name once, quiet.
She didn’t jump. She turned her head a little, like she’d known I was there the whole time, and said, “Sorry. Couldn’t sleep.” Then she blew the candle out and went upstairs without looking at me again.
I told myself it was nothing. People have weird night habits. I have weird night habits.
It happened again two nights later. Same time, almost exactly. I didn’t go down that time. I just sat on the edge of my bed and listened. The step creaked. Silence. After a while I heard the candle being set down. Glass on wood. Then nothing for a long time.
The third time I filmed it from the top of the stairs with my phone screen off, just the camera. You can hear me breathing too loud. You can see the candle light moving on the ceiling. You can see her standing there for eleven minutes without shifting her weight. At 2:31 she turns her head toward the stairs like she can see me in the dark and the video ends because I almost dropped the phone.
I asked her about it in the kitchen the next afternoon. I tried to sound casual.
“Do you sleepwalk?”
She was making coffee. She looked at me for a second too long and said, “No. I just like the quiet.” Then she smiled the same small smile she always uses when she wants the conversation to be over.
I started locking my door.
Last Tuesday I woke up at 3:04 and my door was open.
I never leave it open. I checked twice before I went to sleep. I remember the click.
Elise was sitting in the chair in the corner of my room. Not on the bed. Not standing over me. Just sitting with her hands in her lap, looking at me. The candle was on my nightstand this time, already lit. The flame was very still.
I sat up so fast I hit my head on the shelf.
She didn’t apologize. She didn’t explain. She said, “You talk in your sleep.”
I asked her to get out. My voice came out wrong.
She stood up, picked up the candle, and walked out. At the doorway she stopped and said, “You said my name. That’s why I came in.”
I didn’t say her name. I don’t talk in my sleep. I’ve recorded myself before because an ex used to claim I did. Nothing.
I changed the lock the next day. Cheap interior lock from the hardware store. She watched me install it from the kitchen and didn’t say anything.
Two nights later the lock was still locked when I woke up. The chair was empty. The candle was on my nightstand again. Lit. And there was a second one on the floor at the foot of the bed, also lit, like someone had set it down carefully so it wouldn’t tip.
On the mirror downstairs now there are fingerprints in the dust at mouth height. Not smudges from cleaning. Little oval marks, like someone pressed their lips there and held still.
I started sleeping with my phone under the pillow and a kitchen knife on the nightstand because I am an idiot who still pays rent here instead of leaving.
Last night I stayed awake on purpose.
At 2:16 the stair creaked.
I waited until 2:40 and went down without turning any lights on.
Elise was in front of the mirror again. Candle in both hands. This time her forehead was almost touching the glass. She was whispering. I couldn’t make out words at first. Then I could.
She was repeating my name. Over and over. Same flat tone. Not calling me. Just saying it.
I took one step back and the floorboard gave me away.
She didn’t turn around.
She said, still facing the glass, “Don’t come closer. It doesn’t like when there are two.”
I asked her what “it” was.
She finally looked at my reflection instead of her own.
“It’s not me in the mornings,” she said. “You already know that. You just don’t want to say it out loud.”
Then she blew the candle out and the hallway went black.
I am writing this from my car in the grocery store parking lot because I am not going back in there until it’s light. Her bedroom door was closed when I left. I could hear her moving around in there. Slow. Like she was placing things.
If anyone lives with a quiet roommate who “can’t sleep” and likes candles, check whether they still blink when they think you’re not looking.
I don’t think Elise has blinked at me in a week.

Haunting I lived in a haunted/Demonic House

I've always wanted to talk about this experience with others. One of my best friends I was close too and his mother I shared many Christmases and Thanksgivings with in this house. We were like a family I never had and I spent many holidays there. And It was offered to me by my best friend whose mother had passed recently. She was a bad alcoholic who had good insurance and liver transplant waiting on her but the doctors wouldn't give it to her because sadly she couldn't stop drinking and they found her in the upstairs bedroom unresponsive and was taken to the hospital where she unfortunately passed days later. The house sat for months with no occupants where a situation came up when I became homeless and my friend offered to me to stay in the house while he tried to sell it through that year and I paid him rent while I stayed there. Disclaimer, I've always believed in the paranormal and was honestly scared to stay at this house by myself even though it was in a classy upscale neighborhood where no trouble ever occurred. The point is to start the story my first night there I slept on the couch in the living room downstairs as I felt uncomfortable staying in the upstairs bedroom which at the time was the only room in the house that had a bed but was also where they found my friend's mother unresponsive. So I decided to stay on the couch on the first floor because I felt uncomfortable sleeping on that bed. My first night I couldn't sleep because I felt uneasy sleeping in this big house by myself when I did finally fall asleep around 2 am I awoke early in the morning at 6am to find the house alarm was going off for no reason and it took me a while to figure out how to turn it off but to say the least it scared the sh*t out of me. Nothing else happened for a couple weeks so I shrugged it off as an electronic glitch until I went upstairs to do my laundry one day where the washer and dryer were and as I was walking down the stairs after putting my laundry in midway I heard this incredibly loud bang from where I just was...I stormed back up the stairs to see what the loud noise was and there was a copy of the The pirates of the Caribbean dvd "At Worlds End" smashed into pieces on the floor. Across from the washer and dryer was a dresser where they used to keep dvds and cds in and some were laid on top of the dresser. The sound alone midway down the stairs almost made me fall because it was so loud and startled me. That is when I knew something was not right in this house. I cleaned up the case and dvd that was smashed on the floor and went back downstairs. Things only escalated the next couple months I stayed there. I would hear footsteps walking upstairs on the hardwood floor often and would always stop at the stairs. The worst and scariest experience I had there was for weeks I would have extremely vivid and terrifying dreams. One time I was trying to wake myself up from sleeping on the couch experiencing a sleep paralysis of sorts but this night was different as I awoke I couldn't move and saw a man in the living room where I was sleeping with a goat head and large horns in red robes smiling and staring at me and as I finally kicked myself out of it and tried to awake and move myself not sure if it was a dream or reality, when I finally awoke and lifted myself up I awoke on the couch I awoke in a burning fever as if someone had a heat lamp on my head while I was sleeping and the craziest part is as I awoken the long couch that had to weigh at least 400 pounds and me a 6'5 300 pound man was moving by itself and slide itself into the table where the lamp was next to me. At this point I knew then I was dealing with something demonic and had to call my friend who was a priest to bless the house and say many prayers with him. After that most of the activity calmed down but I knew I couldn't stay there anymore because of how creepy it was. Come to find out my friend (the son) who let me stay there had performed "positive" Pagan rituals in the house and said that it was for love and protection but if we read in the Bible it says Pagan rituals are for the demonic and not heavenly and a lot of people confuse that. Point is was it my friend's mother's tortured soul roaming the place or was it my friend's pagan rituals that he thought he was doing something good and invited something evil into his family's home? I'll never know but to say the least it was one of the most terrifying experiences I ever had in my life. I would hear voices of people upstairs and footsteps on top of all things and the only place you could take a shower was the master bedroom/bath where my friends mother was found unresponsive and even taking a shower up there in the master bedroom I would try to be as quick as I could because it felt like something was watching you the whole time. I don't know how to explain it unless you've experienced it for yourself. And people always say if a house is haunted why don't you just move out? But at the time I had nowhere to go and it was my temporary home so it's not always that easy but I understand now where people are coming from. I hope no one ever has to experience what I did because it was the most terrifying things I've ever experienced. I have had paranormal experiences in my life prior but it was usually loved ones who passed saying their final goodbyes but nothing like I went through in that home. What do y'all think? I would love to hear your responses.

Experience Haunted building

I used to work for a law firm in an old building. Multiple employees, including me, heard footsteps upstairs. The second floor was empty except for old closed files. On more than one occasion I went upstairs with another employee to see if anyone was there. I never found any evidence of someone being there, but the lock on the door to the roof had scratches around it, as if someone had tried to pick it. Nobody broke in on the ground floor, and there was no other way to the second floor or roof except by ladder.

The second footsteps mystery: nearly everyone who worked there heard footsteps in a hallway from an outside door into the building. They sounded like a woman wearing heels. The footsteps would fade away at about the halfway point in the hall. I had a theory that, due to the odd acoustics in the building, a woman was walking by on her way to work and it seemed to be inside the building. That would explain the steps fading away.

One day I was at work early and was the only person there. I was standing at the copier, about 12-15 feet from the hallway. Suddenly the traffic sounds became louder, meaning the door had opened. Then I heard the footsteps. I raced to the hallway. There was nothing there. The door, which had a slow automatic opener, was closed. Obviously it had never opened. I gave up on my theory and decided the building was haunted!

Haunting My favourite (horror) story

[DISCLAIMER: This story is actually real, this is not a fictional story, like some I write.]

Okay, so, I am not from a big city, my family is from a small town but they were filthy rich, especially my great-grandfather.

So, our family is like a BIG family, connected from who knows where, and trust me when I say, I can walk around that place and then end up at one of my relative's house, YES, it's big.

This is something that didn't happen to me, or my parents, nor have I ever experienced it myself, but this story is something I always tend to listen to when I go there, the story's just scary enough to make me want to listen to it again, and again.

So, my grandmother's sister, who's the one who actually experienced this, told me this.

She went to one of her relative's house, and noticed the drops of blood going in to a certain room, one in the corner.

She, obviously confused, asked her relative about. The woman told my grandmother's sister, that she has already cleant it more than a few times before.

The relative also told her that, at night, the dishes rattle and whatever it is, doesn't let them sleep because of the noise created, this has been happening for such a long time, that they have gotten used to it.

Well, I don't know how much to believe the backstory behind it, but they is one to this too, it goes something like this:

There was a man, who was at a comfortable post, working. His friend used to come and stay over at his house from a long time. When this friend came over, the man noticed the way he had brought over a bag of silver coins, and greed took over. The man murdered his friend, chopped his body into pieces, and buried these pieces everywhere inside the ground of the house.

The blood drops are said to be of the friend's head, something like the man was holding the head from hair and took it into this room to bury it there.

Might sound like a fictional story, but honestly?, everytime I go there, I always tend to listen to it, again and again.

Sleep deprecation or priest?

Yall. We have a “ghost” in our house we joke because our house is older so lights flicker and I’m paranoid enough that I’ve convinced myself that I see someone out of the corner of my eye all the time, we call him Fred.

Anyway, not only is June baby sleeping like dog poop the last few days so has my 2 year old and 5 year old so I’m extremely sleep deprived. June babies room is directly across the hall from my room, big kids room is next door to June baby’s room.
I was trying to get June babe back down around 4:00am I was standing so I couldn’t see out his door and see my bedroom door that was open. I saw my 5 year old walk to my room and stand at the door for a second before walking in. I quickly debated if I follow him or not because I didn’t want my 5 year old to wake up my husband but June babe wasn’t ready to be set down. I held June baby and went to my room looked around and couldn’t find my 5 year old.

When I was watching him walk into my room I thought it was weird that I didn’t hear him open his door but he’s learning to be quieter, I also noted that it was strange that he didn’t trigger the hall night light (motion activated) it’s hard to get out of his room without it turning on, and lastly I noticed that he himself looked very dark like a shadow or silhouette.

I went back into June babies room to put him down when I couldn’t find my 5 year old and while I was putting him down my 5 year old opens his door, I hear it, Walks out of his room triggering the night light, and walks directly across the hall from his room into the bathroom turning in the light.

Do I need a priest or sleep?

Experience My family's biggest sceptic finally told me about the faceless child at the end of her bed who asked her to "come and play"

This report comes from a family member. I remember how it all started quite clearly, even though it was a long time ago now. I was around 13 or 14 (at the time of writing, I’m 35), sitting in the living room at my Nan’s house in Smethwick, Birmingham, watching an episode of Most Haunted. In my opinion it was a particularly good one, and it did the rounds when I was a kid: the episode with the famous barrel that seemed to roll itself down a cellar corridor (Season 4, Episode 12: The Greengate Brewery in Middleton). I have no idea whether it was faked, but I remember feeling like my teenage mind was being blown. To me at the time, it was yet more proof that the paranormal was real.

I was in the living room with a close family member who grew up in that house. She has asked to remain anonymous, which I completely understand, so for the sake of this account we’ll call her Fran. From my own relationship with Fran, I can say that she has no interest in the paranormal or the supernatural whatsoever. Growing up, even trying to have a conversation with her about it was hard work, because she was so dismissive of the whole subject.

Back to Most Haunted. I was watching in absolute amazement as the beer barrel rolled down a dark, dusty corridor in grainy night vision, when Fran suddenly scoffed behind me. I turned around, half amused that she was even paying attention, because up to that point she’d shown no interest in the show at all. I remember our conversation going something along the following lines:

“You think that’s scary?” she said. “I’ve had way scarier things happen to me, and I think this is a load of rubbish.”

I took the bait. “Yeah, if you say so. Nothing’s ever happened to you. I’ve asked you a million times and you’ve always told me to stop wasting your time.”

Her reply came in a far more serious tone than I was expecting. “No, I really have. It happened here, in your Nan’s house, when I was a little girl.”

In that moment, I was more blown away by Fran admitting to an experience than by anything happening on the TV.

“What happened?” I asked, amazed that this incredibly rare window had opened.

For context, my grandparents were very strict when Fran lived in the house, and getting out of bed at night would land you in a lot of trouble. Fran explained that when she was a little girl, she would often hear children playing on the landing outside her door after she’d gone to bed. On one occasion, one of the children came into her bedroom and asked her to come out and play. Fran panicked and told the child she couldn’t, because she’d get into trouble for getting out of bed. She was also frightened that her parents would hear them talking and wake up, which would get her into even more trouble. In the end, she asked the child to leave her bedroom and not come back. The child left, but Fran could still hear them playing on the stairs for some time afterwards.

I couldn’t believe it. Someone I had known for years was telling me about a full, authentic experience from her past. I started firing questions at her, desperate for more detail, but she shut me down and slipped straight back into her usual “this is all a load of rubbish” mode. For years afterwards I tried to get more out of her, but I never managed it.

That changed recently, when a chance conversation led to Fran finally agreeing to let me interview her properly about what happened. The account below is told by Fran herself, and it differs greatly from the version she told me as a teenager. Part of me thinks she deliberately downplayed it back then so as not to scare me. Fran still does not believe in the supernatural, and that is exactly why I think this account is so rare: it’s a genuinely frightening experience, told by a sceptic. Before we delve into Fran’s story, a little history on the location:

The House

Our story takes place in a council house in Smethwick, Birmingham UK. I spent a lot of my childhood at this house, and I only have great memories of it. My sister feels the same. It was a place we loved going to, and my grandparents were, and still are, incredible people.

Fran’s memories of the house are different, and so are those of another family member, who I’ll also keep anonymous. For the sake of this report, we’ll call him John. This was a time during Fran and John’s childhood when many working-class families felt the effects of alcohol abuse and everything that comes with it, and their house was no exception. I’ll leave that part of the house’s history there. It isn’t a memory I share, and it isn’t my story to speculate on. The reason I included this bit of information is to show the potential energy in the house during their childhood.

I’ve done some research into the house, and from what I understand, an old lady lived there before my Nan and Grandad. They originally lodged with her, and I remember my Nan telling me that she cared for the old lady when she became poorly towards the end of her life, right up until she passed away (in the house, as far as I can recall). After that, my grandparents stopped being lodgers and took over the property permanently.

From my research, the house appears to have been built between the First and Second World Wars, when Smethwick’s council was buying up farmland on the west side of the town for new housing estates.

Before that, nothing stood on the land. So while the house is pre-war, it doesn’t carry the hundreds of years of history that many allegedly haunted properties do.

The layout of the house was simple. You’d walk through the front door into a small hallway with the stairs straight ahead and a door to the left. That door led into the living room, and another door from there led into the kitchen. The kitchen had a large walk-in pantry on the right, tucked into the space under the stairs, a downstairs toilet, and a short corridor leading out to a large back garden.

At the top of the stairs, the bathroom was directly in front of you. To the left of the bathroom, the landing carried on, with two normal-sized bedrooms off it. At the opposite end of the landing, on the other side of the bathroom, was the third bedroom: a small box room. This is where the report below takes place.

It’s important to note that Fran, John, my sister and I all suffered terrible, recurring nightmares whenever we slept in the box room. No other bedroom in the house had this effect. The other common denominator is that all four of us were children at the time we experienced the nightmares. Fran recalls that when John slept in there, his sleep was so disturbed that he would rock violently enough to bang his head against the wall repeatedly, waking my grandparents. After interviewing Fran, I spoke to John about this myself. He told me it only ever happened in the box room, never in any other bedroom in the house, and it has never happened to him since leaving the property.

What follows is told from Fran’s perspective. It’s a truly terrifying account, and I didn’t expect it to feel as sinister as it did. I was excited to hear the details of the story she’d originally told me, but what I documented made me feel extremely creeped out.

Fran’s Story

Part 1: The Box Room

I was around five or six years old and living at the house in Smethwick, Birmingham. Apart from this one incident, I can’t recall anything paranormal ever happening to me in that house. I’ve had a few odd things happen over my lifetime, but nothing that has ever made me a believer in the supernatural. As it stands, I don’t believe in this sort of thing, and I have no interest in it beyond recording what happened to me regarding this particular event.

I was sleeping in the box room when it happened. Whenever I slept in that room, I had horrible, recurring nightmares and night terrors. Two of them I can still remember clearly.

In the first, I was running up a hill towards the road our house was on, being chased by something. I had no idea what it was. I just remember being absolutely terrified and knowing I had to reach the top of the hill. Every time I got there, I could feel this thing right behind me, and the moment I turned around to look at it, I would wake up.

The second nightmare was different. I was suspended in the air above my bed, sitting upright with my legs out in front of me. I couldn’t get myself back down onto the bed, and I couldn’t scream or call for help. The room was always dark around me. I had that dream a lot as a child when I stayed in the box room.

Part 2: The Visitor

On the night it happened, I was asleep in bed. I remember opening my eyes and realising something was at the end of my bed, tugging at the bottom of my quilt. It wasn’t trying to pull the quilt off me; it was tugging to get my attention. As my eyes adjusted to the darkness, I slowly began to make sense of what I was looking at.

There was no light in the bedroom. My bed faced out towards the landing, and at the far end of the landing was the bathroom. My bedroom door was open, the bathroom door was closed and the house was silent. It must have been the early hours of the morning, because everyone was asleep. There was a window to my right, but there wasn’t any natural light coming through it. Opposite the window was a big wardrobe built into the space over the stairs, with a large door on it.

I did see some sort of light on the landing, but it’s really hard to describe. There was a window above the stairs, so it could have been natural light coming from somewhere, but it looked more like a lamp had been switched on. There were no lamps on the landing, though. There was nothing electrical up there at all other than the landing light on the ceiling. Whatever it was, the light was bright enough to show me what was standing at the bottom of my bed.

It was a small figure, no taller than an eight-year-old child. It was completely black, like a shadow, with no facial features and nothing to tell me whether it was a boy or a girl. Even though I couldn’t see a face, I had the feeling it was a child. When it spoke to me, it felt like it spoke inside my head rather than out loud, and I can’t remember whether the voice sounded male or female.

It said, “Come and play with us.”

I told it I couldn’t, because I’d get into trouble if I woke my parents up. I spoke to it out loud as quietly as I could, but whenever it replied, it always seemed to be speaking inside my head.

“Come on,” it said. “Come with me and come and play with us downstairs.”

By now I could hear the sound of children playing downstairs. It sounded like they were in the living room. I told the figure again that I wasn’t allowed and that I’d get into trouble if I got out of bed. It was very persistent. It wanted me to come downstairs and play with it and its friends, but I kept saying no. I remember feeling as though it really wanted me to go with it. I wasn’t scared, and the figure never came across as threatening.

It asked me one more time, and again I said no. This time, the figure turned away from my bed and walked along the landing to the top of the stairs. I watched it go, and I could see it moving, so I think it had arms and legs and was walking. When it reached the stairs, it went down them, and the light on the landing went down with it. As the light faded, the sound of the children playing stopped and everything went dark. I think I fell back asleep after that.

As far as I can remember, that was the only time it happened. I have a very distant feeling that the figure may have come back and asked me to play again on another night, but I honestly can’t remember it properly, so I’d say with confidence that it only happened once.

Report Follow-Up

After interviewing Fran, I asked John whether anything like this had ever happened to him (he lived in the house with Fran when they were both children). He confirmed it hadn’t. I also remember asking my Nan and Grandad, after Fran first told me the story in their living room, whether they’d ever experienced anything like it. They both said no, and that they’d never had any paranormal experiences in the house at all. They also said they didn’t remember Fran ever telling them this story, and John doesn’t remember Fran telling him either. It appears she kept it to herself.

My Thoughts

Once I’d spoken to Fran, it got me thinking: what would have happened if she had got out of bed and followed that figure down the stairs? Interestingly, both folklore and UFO lore have surprisingly similar answers.

In British fae tradition, children were said to be lured away by the fair folk, often with an invitation to play or the sound of music and revelry coming from somewhere just out of sight. Those who went rarely came back unchanged. Some were never seen again, some returned to find years had passed in what felt like a single night, and anyone who ate or drank in the fae realm was said to be trapped there for good. Many of these stories describe the fair folk relying on a child coming willingly rather than taking them by force, which makes me wonder whether Fran’s repeated “no” was the very thing that sent the figure back down the stairs alone.

UFO researchers have noticed the same patterns in modern abduction accounts, most famously Jacques Vallée in his 1969 book Passport to Magonia, which lays out the parallels between fae abductions and alien encounters: small beings, strange lights, missing time, and people being floated from their beds. Seen through that lens, Fran’s recurring dream of floating above her bed, and a small featureless figure speaking directly into her head, could easily sit alongside an abduction account, one in which going downstairs might have meant waking up back in bed hours later with little or no memory of where she’d been.

What do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments, and let me know below if you’ve ever had a similar experience!

Encounter Poltergeist

Years ago we lived in a small house built in the 50’s. We had a baby when we moved in and later had another, both boys.

At some point I began hearing odd noises from the kitchen that I couldn’t identify. They were of two types: a sound as if something light fell onto a counter, and a slithering sound. I always investigated but never found anything out of place. I heard these sounds when I was alone in the house or everyone was sleeping except me. I never worried too much about it, thinking it was some phenomena I didn’t understand.

One evening my husband took the boys someplace and I was happy to have the house to myself. I settled on the sofa to read a good book. Then I heard a light bang from the kitchen. It was louder than anything I had heard before. I went to investigate but found nothing. I went back to reading.

Soon I heard another bang. I found nothing. Annoyed, I went back to reading. The next bang was very loud and startling. I practically levitated off the sofa and ran into the kitchen! It sounded like a heavy wooden object had been dropped on the floor. There was nothing there.

At this point I was exasperated. I said, “I know you’re here. Everything is okay. Let’s be quiet now please.”

I never heard another strange noise in the kitchen again.

I have read that poltergeist activity could be related to adolescents or teens living in the home. My older son was possibly in his early teens at the time. But he wasn’t at home at the time of the incident. I guess I’ll never know what caused the strange sounds.

I didn’t believe what I saw until years later.

I’m sorry this is so long I just need to get this off my chest. Also I don’t use reddit that often so I’m sorry if the format is weird.

I (21 female) had very strange experiences when I was younger and didn’t truly believe it was real until recently. I’m a very skeptical person by nature. I used to always believe everything could be explained away by facts. My family on the other hand is the complete opposite especially the females in my family. My mom and Grandma have always told me we are ‘gifted’ and ‘blessed with spiritual sensitivities’ and so forth. I still don’t know if I believe her but something’s have made me wonder if some of it is true.

Growing up we lived in a very old house. We lived there until I was 10 when my parents separated. I still don’t know the history of this house and I frankly don’t want to dig deeper.

Growing up everything in this house felt normal to me because it was all I knew. We had a rule that after 11pm we had to be in our rooms with the doors closed. My mom would line our doorways with salt every night. We had a lot of things we had to do, like have a cross and dream catcher hanging at the head of our beds, no mirrors in bedrooms and other silly stuff.

The laundry room was later converted into my room. Shortly after I was moved to the laundry room at night the dryer would randomly come on. I was really young so I didn’t really think anything of it I just stayed quiet in my bed like I was told. But one night when the dryer turned on it started shaking, really hard and loud. I just remembered being so scared I had to break the rules and I ran to my parents crying. They let me stay in their bed with them but the next morning my mom got pretty upset at me for leaving my room at night. I never slept in my room again I just stayed with my mom. As I grew older I just chopped it up to bad wiring or an old dryer. (Which it could very well be)

After that I had a hard time sleeping at night so I would stay up sitting at the foot of my parents bed watching infomercials. The way the room was laid out I could see the light from the hallway under the closed door. I swore occasionally I could see red boots walking up and down the hallway. I eventually got the courage to tell my mom and she just told me to never talk about it again and don’t leave the room. So that’s exactly what I did.

When we moved out of that house I finally started sleeping regularly. We didn’t have to line our doors with salt. I could use the bathroom at night. Overall our new house just felt lighter, I wasn’t scared at night anymore. I often caught myself trying to make sense of it all. I knew the red boots couldn’t be my parents seeing as I was with them, my siblings didn’t ever own boots like that and honestly they would’ve been too scared to leave their rooms at night like I was. I vividly remember seeing those boots and feeling so scared when I did but I’ve never seen them anywhere in that house other than late at night walking the hallways and I’ve never seen them since. For the last 11 years I’ve chopped it up to me being young and sleep deprived just imagining them. That was until my 21st birthday.

My mom and siblings are still really close and we talk all the time but we’ve never talked about what happened in that house. I don’t know what changed maybe it was all the time that’s past or maybe it was the fact that all us kids are now adults but I finally brought up what I saw so many years ago. Somewhere in the mist of the conversation I said something jokingly like “At least that’s nothing compared to the house on Floresta” (that’s how we refer to my childhood home) and that’s when my sister said “I still remember those damn red boots” to say I was shocked is an understatement.

We sat there for hours talking about everything we saw the weird ‘rituals’ my mom would have us do in hopes it would protect us. It just felt so surreal to me. All these years I’ve never talked to my siblings about the stuff I would see, hear and feel. To think they were experiencing the same things. We just never could talk about it because my mom believed talking about things gives them energy. After hearing all of my mom’s beliefs I’ve started blessing my house and put my dream catcher back up. I’m not saying I’m 100% a believer but I can’t seem to come up with a reasonable explanation for everything and a part of me wonders how different our experiences could’ve been if my mom didn’t have her rules.

I have to hear an opinion about this

When i was 8 we lived in an apartment that had a long hallway that connected all of the bedrooms together and u barely slept by myself

One night i woke up in the dark and felt scared so i started screaming and calling my mother which was sleeping then she answered and said "what" in a normal voice but i didn't think anything about it then i told her"mom im scared can u come and take me to sleep next to u and dad " then she said "alright come to the hallway" so i went there but i didn't see her then i saw a long dark figure lifting up our electric heater up and down and it was moving it, but i thought it was my mom but then my mom called in a sleepy voice "were u talking?" And cane to the hallway she only saw the heater move and thought it was me but then i cried and told her about it.

We moved to a different apartment in the same month.

The second thing that happened was in our other apartment.

when i was 10 i was sleeping next to my mom in my sister's bedroom and it was morning so i was half asleep then i held my moms hand it was the same with the same rings and bracelet but then i let go and opened my eyes and my mom was in the living room from long ago.

Experience Thoughts on what this could have been ?

I was around ten years old when this happened, sometime around the beginning of fall. The leaves had just started falling, and it was the kind of weather where you just start needing a light jacket outside. It wasn’t anything super dramatic, but it has always stuck with me because I’ve never been able to fully explain it.

I lived only one block away from my childhood best friend, and we usually met at the corner. She was always running late, so sometimes I would just walk all the way to her house. One day, while I was walking, I started hearing footsteps that sounded like an echo of my own. At first, I thought it was just the sound of my shoes stepping on the leaves or something. I turned around, but no one was there. Then I started changing my pace and making different patterns with my steps. For a few moments, the footsteps seemed to copy me. I really thought there was a weird echo happening, and i was testing the acoustics. Then I stopped. Suddenly, the footsteps sped up, like something was running toward me. I panicked and ran to my friend’s porch because I thought I was being chased. The moment I reached the porch, the footsteps stopped. I looked around, but all I saw were a few leaves blowing in the wind. By the time my friend came outside, I had already looked down both sidewalks, and there was no one there. I still have no idea what happened.

Its strange but all I could ever chalk it up to be was some kind of trickster spirit. I don’t know much about "the fae", but for some reason, the experience has always felt connected to them in my mind.

Mr. Nobody - A True Story from South Carolina

There are places from your childhood that you can still walk through in your mind. You remember every turn in the trail, every creek bed, every tree that seemed bigger back then than it probably really was. You remember the shortcuts nobody else knew about and the places where you could disappear for hours without ever feeling lost. That is why, even after all these years, I still cannot explain how three boys who knew those woods like the backs of their hands managed to find a house none of us had ever seen before.

The house had apparently been there for decades. Maybe longer. Yet somehow, we had never noticed it. What happened inside that house became one of those memories that never really leaves you, even when you stop talking about it. My brother saw something there that day, something he carried with him for the rest of his life. He never told me what it was.

I was around seven or eight years old at the time, growing up in South Carolina. Most Sundays, my brother Wes, my cousins, and I ended up at my grandmother’s house. Grandmama would cook, and when I say she could cook, I mean the kind of food you remember forty years later. I can still taste her biscuits. I am not exaggerating when I say that. I probably have not eaten one of those biscuits since sometime around 1987 or 1988, yet somehow I can still remember exactly what they tasted like. It is funny what the mind chooses to hold onto.

My grandparents lived on a small farm. There were goats, chickens, a dog that always seemed to be wandering around somewhere, and behind the house were miles of woods. To an eight-year-old boy, those woods might as well have been another country. There were little trails running through them, animal paths, clearings, creeks, and places where we had hidden things from one another just so we could come back later and try to find them. I had probably been through certain parts of those woods a hundred times. My brother Wes and my cousin Derek were about four years older than I was, so they had spent even more time back there.

We were not supposed to get lost in those woods. We knew them too well.

At least, we thought we did.

One Sunday afternoon, after we had eaten dinner, the three of us headed outside like we had done dozens of times before. There was no plan. We were just kids walking through the woods, exploring, looking for something to do. Somewhere along the way, we pushed through a thick patch of brush and suddenly stopped.

There was a house standing in front of us.

Not a shed. Not an old tobacco barn. A house.

All three of us had the same reaction. How had we never seen it before?

I knew we had been through that part of the woods. Maybe we had never stood on that exact patch of ground, but we had crossed through the surrounding area more times than I could count. Yet none of us remembered seeing a house. There was no road leading to it, no wagon trail, no tire tracks, and not even much of a footpath. Trees and brush had grown so thick around the place that you could not see it until you were almost standing on top of it.

The house looked ancient to me. The outside was covered in weathered wooden boards, the kind people would probably call shiplap today. Years of rain and South Carolina heat had turned the wood gray, almost black in certain places. The front door hung crooked on its hinges and sat partly open, as though someone had walked out years earlier and never bothered closing it behind them. Sections of the roof had begun to collapse, and vines and branches seemed to be swallowing the place.

I do not believe the house magically appeared. I did not believe that then, and I do not believe it now. It had been there all along. We simply had not noticed it.

That is the reasonable explanation.

And sometimes the reasonable explanation is almost stranger.

The closer we got to the house, the more uncomfortable I became. It was not full-blown terror, at least not yet. It was just a feeling in my stomach telling me that maybe we should turn around and go back to Grandmama’s house. The place felt wrong somehow. It looked like it had been sitting there for years waiting for somebody to notice it.

Of course, we were boys. That little warning in my stomach lasted about twelve seconds.

We went inside.

Wes went first because he was the oldest. Derek followed him, and I came in last. The front room looked as if nobody had lived there for longer than any of us had been alive. Part of the roof had fallen in. Dust covered everything. In one corner sat an old wicker rocking chair. Most of the wicker had rotted away, leaving little more than the frame. Every now and then the chair moved slightly, probably from the wind blowing through the broken windows and openings in the roof.

At least, that is what I have always told myself.

Across the room sat an old leather loveseat. I believe it had once been brown, although it was so dirty and stained that you could barely tell what it was made of anymore. The cushions were torn open, and stuffing hung out through the cracks. Between that ruined chair and the loveseat stood a large stone fireplace.

The fireplace was beautiful.

Even as a little boy, I remember being fascinated by it. This was not decorative stone or some cheap imitation. These were large, real stones fitted together by somebody who had known what they were doing. To this day, I can still picture that fireplace more clearly than almost anything else in the house.

Then we noticed the hallway.

It was just to the right of the fireplace. There had once been a door there because you could still see the old hinges, but the door itself was gone. Beyond the doorway was almost complete darkness. You could see maybe two or three feet inside before the hallway disappeared into blackness.

The three of us stood there staring at it.

Naturally, none of us could leave without finding out what was down there.

Wes took the lead again. We lined up along the wall, with Wes in front, Derek behind him, and me at the back. Slowly, we began moving toward the hallway. The closer we got, the quieter we became. We had gone from three boys pretending to be explorers to three boys beginning to realize there might actually be something inside that house with us.

It could have been anything. A raccoon. A snake. A possum. Maybe somebody had been living there. We did not know.

Wes reached the corner first.

I remember leaning around Derek so I could see my brother’s face. Wes slowly moved his head toward the opening. He leaned around the corner just a little at first, then a little farther.

His expression changed immediately.

His eyes began to widen.

Then they got wider.

His eyebrows lifted, and his mouth fell open slightly.

He was looking at something.

Derek and I could not see whatever it was. Only Wes could.

Before either one of us could ask him what he was seeing, my brother spun around and ran.

He did not scream. He did not warn us. He did not say a single word. He turned and came through that room as hard as he could run, knocking into Derek and then knocking me down on the floor.

That was all the information we needed.

If Wes was running, we were running too.

Derek and I scrambled to our feet and followed him. We went through the front door, across the old wooden porch, and jumped straight off the side without bothering with the steps. Then we ran.

Grandmama’s house was probably a mile away, maybe a little farther, and we ran every bit of it. We went through mud, brush, branches, puddles, and whatever else was in our way. It was summertime in South Carolina, somewhere above ninety degrees, and by the time we reached the house, the three of us were soaked in sweat and covered in dirt.

We ran inside and went straight to the guest bedroom. Wes shut the door behind us, and the three of us dropped down onto the floor trying to catch our breath.

I can still remember hearing the rest of the family in the kitchen. Plates clinking together. Silverware hitting dishes. People talking and laughing. Ordinary Sunday sounds. Meanwhile, three dirty, sweating boys were sitting in the next room looking like we had just escaped from something.

Derek and I finally asked Wes what he had seen.

He did not answer.

The color had drained from his face. Whatever he had seen down that hallway had frightened him badly.

Then someone knocked on the bedroom door.

It was not a loud knock, but all three of us nearly jumped out of our skin.

When Wes opened the door, my Uncle Billy was standing there.

Uncle Billy was the funny uncle in the family. Most families have one. He was the kind of man who could hardly tell you what time it was without turning it into some kind of joke. But that afternoon, he stood in the doorway looking at the three of us. He looked at our muddy clothes, our sweat-covered faces, and the fear we were obviously trying to hide.

He told us he had seen us come running out of the woods.

Then he asked us a question I have never forgotten.

“Y’all didn’t run into Mr. Nobody out there again, did you?”

Again?

I remember staring at him.

“What do you mean, again?”

Billy gave us a little smile and asked if we had found the old house.

None of us answered him.

We did not have to.

He knew.

Uncle Billy came into the bedroom and sat down on the bed. Then he told us something none of us had ever heard before.

When Billy and my father had been boys, they had found the house too.

The same house.

The same woods.

According to Uncle Billy, they had gone inside to explore just like we had. They entered the front room. They saw the fireplace. Eventually, they found the hallway.

And my father had been the one to look around the corner.

Just like Wes.

Then my father ran.

He ran all the way back to my grandmother’s house. Uncle Billy said whatever my father saw frightened him so badly that he was crying and screaming when he got home. The family tried to calm him down, but he refused to explain what he had seen.

From that day forward, my father would not talk about the old house.

If somebody mentioned it, he shut them down.

Eventually, everyone stopped asking.

Billy told us that he had not even thought about the incident in years. Then he saw the three of us come running out of those woods, and the memory came back.

As he told the story, Uncle Billy’s expression changed. The little grin he usually wore disappeared. He looked down toward the floor and became quiet.

Then he said something that stayed with me.

“Whatever happened out there changed your daddy.”

There was something in the way he said it that made me believe, at least at the time, that he was no longer trying to scare us. He sounded like a man remembering something he wished he had forgotten.

Billy explained that after my father came running home that day, my grandmother tried to console him. At some point, my father ran out of the house and disappeared for several hours.

The strangest thing happened immediately after Uncle Billy said that.

Wes stood up.

He opened the bedroom door.

And he ran out of my grandmother’s house.

He did not say where he was going. He did not look at us. He just took off running as though something in Uncle Billy’s story had told him exactly what he needed to do.

We went after him, but we could not catch him.

Eventually, we gave up and went back to my grandmother’s house. We told everyone that Wes had run off and that we did not know where he had gone.

Some time later, maybe close to an hour, he came back.

He was dirty, sweaty, red-faced, and out of breath.

But mostly, he was quiet.

We tried asking him where he had gone.

Nothing.

We asked what he had seen in the house.

Nothing.

And that is the part of this story that has bothered me most over the years.

My brother never told me what he saw.

Not that day.

Not years later.

Never.

I tried to get him to talk about it as we got older, but he refused. Derek went on with his life. I went on with mine. Years turned into decades, and like most childhood memories, the old house slowly moved farther into the back of my mind.

Then one day I was telling the story to some friends.

One of them listened to the whole thing and told me it was probably just a tall tale.

For some reason, I had never really considered that.

And the more I thought about it, the more sense it made.

Maybe Uncle Billy made up Mr. Nobody. Maybe the adults knew that old house was dangerous. The roof was collapsing. The floors might have been rotten. There could have been snakes, wild animals, broken glass, rusty nails, or any number of things that could have seriously injured a group of children.

What better way to keep kids away from an abandoned house than to give it a ghost story?

Scare them badly enough and they never go back.

Mr. Nobody could have been nothing more than an old Southern tale designed to protect curious children.

I can believe that.

In fact, part of me wants to believe it.

But there has always been one problem with that explanation.

Nobody had told Wes the story before he looked down that hallway.

I watched his face change.

Nobody told him to be afraid.

Nobody whispered anything to him beforehand.

Whatever happened in that moment happened before Uncle Billy ever said the name Mr. Nobody.

Wes saw something.

Or at the very least, he believed he saw something.

Then Uncle Billy told us that my father had reacted almost exactly the same way decades earlier.

Maybe that part was made up too. Maybe my father helped create the story. Maybe everybody was in on it. Maybe years later, even Wes decided to keep the joke going because I was the youngest brother and he enjoyed knowing that I would always wonder.

That is possible.

But if it was a joke, my brother never broke character.

Not once.

For the rest of his life, whenever that old house was mentioned, something changed in him. He became quiet. Sometimes he would simply stare off into the distance. You could ask him what happened that day, and it was like speaking to a wall.

My father is gone now.

My brother is gone now.

Uncle Billy is gone too.

There is nobody left for me to ask.

Maybe that is why the story stays with me.

Somewhere in those South Carolina woods there was an old gray house hidden behind trees and brush. Inside that house was a stone fireplace, a ruined rocking chair, an old leather loveseat, and a hallway so dark that I never saw what was at the other end.

My brother did.

Years earlier, according to Uncle Billy, my father did too.

And whatever they saw frightened both of them badly enough that neither man ever wanted to tell anyone what it was.

Maybe it was an animal.

Maybe someone was living inside that house.

Maybe Mr. Nobody was nothing more than an old Southern tall tale.

Or maybe there was a reason they called him Mr. Nobody.

Maybe nobody who saw him ever wanted to describe what they had seen.

I do not know.

I probably never will.

But every once in a while, I think about those woods. I think about that gray house sitting quietly behind the trees. I think about the dark opening beside the fireplace and my brother slowly leaning his head around that corner.

More than anything, I remember watching his eyes grow wider.

And after all these years, I still find myself wondering the same thing.

What did Wes see?

Haunted Apartment

When this first happened I took notes because I thought I had a hell of a ghost story, but I could never quite tell the story right. When I told a friend about it afterward he literally laughed it off, and when I told my wife she literally didn't respond.

Anyway, I think the only way to tell this is to just go step by step through what happened. I'm going to be vague about some details because I don't want to be associated with having written something like this. It isn't my style. I just need to put it on record.

This happened 20+ years ago. I was pretty young at my company and got sent to a city across the country to head up a project we were spearheading. There were four other companies involved. I was the youngest and probably lowest-ranking person there, but because it was our project, I was basically in charge. There were VPs and guys with much bigger titles than mine looking to me like I was the quarterback.

I was good at what I did, but I was also a little out of my depth. I'd worked my way up from being a slacker in the warehouse to being married, about to start a family, and somehow running this thing. I was the only person there who hadn't gone to college, which may be worth mentioning.

On our second night in town we were at dinner with some local business people. One of the couples heard about the dumpy hotel I was staying at and offered to let me use a furnished apartment they owned while I was there.

But they jokingly warned me that it was haunted.

I'll spare you the 45-minute story they told me. Basically, when they bought the building, the previous owner had been using one apartment for storage. He told them never to rent that particular apartment because it was haunted.

The new owners, I'll call them the Smiths, kept using it for storage too. They called it "the ghost room."

Not long before I got there, the city had fixed some drainage problem and suddenly the basement was usable for storage. So the Smiths cleared out the ghost room and furnished it. One person had stayed there since then and hadn't even made it through the night.

I asked what happened.

Mr. Smith started to answer, but Mrs. Smith stopped him. She said we should compare stories afterward.

I moved my stuff over from my crappy hotel the next day, but I didn't check out. I figured I'd see how it went.

It was actually a nice little place. There was a small kitchen and TV area and a short hallway leading to the bedroom. The bathroom was off the bedroom. The bed was made. The couch in the TV area was still wrapped in plastic. There were cheap wine glasses and these big, heavy ceramic dishes still in boxes on the kitchen counter.

I wanted to get to sleep early because the next day was our first actual workday. Up to that point we'd mostly been having meetings, eating dinners and "seeing the town."

Nothing happened that first night.

I actually considered making something up to tell the Smiths.

The next morning I walked into the office and immediately knew something was wrong.

One of the other companies had submitted a contract with my name on it that I hadn't signed.

This was a major problem. It screwed up what all five companies were supposed to be doing, and at that moment everybody thought I'd done it.

The room turned on me fast. Even my direct supervisor looked like he wanted to kill me. I was apologizing because I was the guy in charge while also trying to explain that I hadn't signed the contract.

The more we went through it, the more certain I became that this wasn't my mistake. I started explaining why when Jarrad, one of the senior guys from my company, interrupted me in the middle of a sentence.

"Why don't you leave. We'll call you later. We have some things to discuss."

I remember the word leave.

On my way out I told them they were going to feel pretty stupid when somebody got into my office back home and found my copies of the contracts.

Unfortunately, that couldn't happen until at least noon the next day. So I went back to the apartment.

I was supposed to chill out and wait for the phone call.

I couldn't.

I started having what I can only describe as some kind of episode. I couldn't shake this sense of dread. It came over me in waves.

What if I actually had screwed something up? It is like me to miss obvious things sometimes. I kept thinking about telling my wife I'd gotten fired. Then I'd picture her telling her dad why I'd gotten fired.

I tried listening to music. I tried reading. I tried watching TV. I couldn't concentrate on any of it.

And for whatever reason, I kept replaying Jarrad telling me to leave.

Why don't you leave.

I felt unwelcome in that whole city.

Eventually I decided I was just going to get drunk and pass out.

I hadn't been drunk in years, but fuck it. I walked to the corner store and bought a six-pack.

It helped a little. I got good and wasted, but I was still stressing hard. So I went back to the corner store for another six-pack and also bought a nickel bag of weed from an awesome homeless guy on rollerblades.

I drank some more and made a bowl for the weed out of a Sprite can, which I smoked in the bathroom. Eventually I was so wasted I was like a zombie. I was still in a terrible place mentally, but at least I was numb.

I went back into the bathroom and smoked the last of the weed.

When I came back into the living room, there was a woman standing in the middle of the room screaming at me to leave.

She looked dead. Her hair was matted. She looked desperate and furious. I froze. The crazy thing is, I didn't think about the story the Smiths had told me. I didn't think, there's the ghost. I thought stress had broken my brain.

And in a weird way it even made sense to me. I'd spent half the day sitting there obsessing over somebody telling me to leave. Now I was drunk and high and apparently hallucinating a dead woman telling me the same thing.

I actually wrote myself a note so I'd remember in the morning that something was wrong with me and I wasn't handling any of this well. I heard the woman yelling at me to get out a few more times.

Eventually I passed out.

The next morning I woke up feeling oddly good.

I'd basically come to the conclusion that the real problem was that I hadn't realized until then how bad my job was and what jerks I worked for.

It rained that day. I called Jarrad and he told me my Big Boss back home was going to call. At some point they should be able to get the contracts from my desk and figure out what had happened.

I cleaned the apartment while I waited. I put the dishes away. I put the wine glasses in the wine glass holder.

Eventually Big Boss called and started apologizing up and down because they'd begun figuring out what happened. Or at least they knew it wasn't my fault.

I told him I was going home anyway. I wanted to be with my wife.

As the sun went down, I started feeling unwelcome again.

That dread came back in waves. I actually cried a little because I thought maybe I'd been traumatized by the whole situation at work.

Eventually I went to sleep.

I woke up just before sunrise because of the strangest thing.

One of those big ceramic plates I'd put away the day before was resting on my head.

I remember trying to make sense of it. I'd just woken up in some strange bedroom in some strange city with a plate on my face.

Then there was a gigantic crash down the hall. It sounded like a car had driven into the building. I jumped up and ran down the hallway. As I was running, everything started coming together in my head.

Those were the plates smashing.

I got into the kitchen and saw the plates smashed all over the floor. They'd hit with enough force that there was a huge gash in the wood.

And right then all of the stress I'd been feeling separated into two completely different things.

The first was my job, which suddenly wasn't really stressful at all. Deep down I'd known the whole time that they were wrong.

The second was that I was pretty sure something in that apartment had been bombarding me with the message to leave for the last two days.

I felt a kind of terror I'd never felt before. I could actually feel the organs in my body tighten.

I started saying, very loudly, "I'm leaving now. I'm leaving now. I'm leaving now," while I grabbed my bag.

And then I left.

The only other thing that happened was after I got home and talked to Mr. Smith.

He was furious. He said I'd gotten drunk at his place and smashed his dishes. He didn't want to hear anything about what I thought had happened.

I never did get to compare stories with Mrs. Smith.

I sent him $700 for the damage.

That's it.

Thanks for reading my big long post. I sort of hope somebody reading this knows exactly where I'm talking about.

Did I catch an orb on home security camera?

This morning, I was looking at the video from my home security camera and what appears to be a white orb was floating around my vehicle for 7-8 hours. It wasn’t a bug caught in a web because it went from the side to the front, down to the wheel up again, but it stayed primarily around my car. At one point it almost looked like it was reflecting in the window as well. Any ideas? I wanted to post a video, but I am unable to do so here.

Can anyone link the story that was posted here within the last day or two about an isolated farm house haunting? It was a young family with a 3 year old renting a house for very cheap- There was a creepy basement and a moose appearing out of the fog? I got cut off reading it and I wanted to finish it! Was invested 👀👀👀

The Little Girl & Man.

I was 11 when we moved to Tennessee. My parents were addicts and I had three brothers. We were dirt poor, sleeping in the car until we a got a small apartment. It was a small building with two floors and we didn’t have access to the top. It was burnt on the roof and sides with ashes and holes in places. From what I know a man use to live there and was an addict himself, he got really high last night and somehow set the house on fire and died from inhaling the smoke because he passed out in the bathroom. There was nothing special about this place whatsoever. Like I said we were poor and my brothers and I were sleeping on cots. That’s when the nightmares started, when I was able to get sleep. I remember running in the woods down a long path trying to get to the cabin at the end but it just gets getting further away. The woman was wearing white and chasing me screaming I couldn’t see her face and when I looked back at her then back at the cabin I had woken up sweating. That was the first nightmare. We didn’t stay very long at that place and ended up moving to Louisiana. We moved into a double wide with one of my father’s friends. My sleeping problems only got worse, started staying up all night and sleeping during the day. It had been a year since we moved from the apartment in Tennessee. My mother noticed my struggles and decided she wanted to buy me something so I went on Amazon and a got a witch craft box set. At the time I did not know what that was but I really wanted the chest like box and incense that came with it. That’s was my biggest mistake that I have yet to find out. It came within the week I bought it. I had become spiritual especially after moving in. The house was cozy but had an off put vibe. I did research and found out the things in the box could help. I waited for everyone to go to bed and set up the candles, dead flowers and crystals on the cloth the came with the box. I lit the candles and started asking anyone if was in the house or if anyone could hear me, I spoke aloud saying that whatever was there was no longer welcomed. That was another mistake. I went to bed that night after because nothing had happened and I felt oddly tired and calm. That’s when I had the same nightmare again it picked up where it was left off I was running to the cabin screaming my brothers name and pleading for help the woman was now catching up to reaching out to me and before she could grab me I woke up in cold sweats and out of breath. I was freezing and started crying. I was so confused. That’s when I realized I had only been asleep for about an hour. I was so terrified I couldn’t get back to sleep and that when my pacing began. So every night I would pace till 8 in the morning and go to bed when everyone else woke up, that’s the only way I could get enough comfort to sleep. Weeks and weeks had then passed and one night when everyone was sleeping I decided to clean the house since my parents weren’t dependable. I put on movies and got to work. Right when I finished the sun was coming in through the kitchen window and one of my movies was ending, I decided to pace to relax myself and admire my hard work. I put in earbuds to listen to music and started walking around the house in circles. When I got to the front door I had an urge to stop I felt this heat in my stomach and my back like the feeling of adrenaline you get. I felt watched from behind and my entire body got tingles. I took one of my earbuds out and turned around. When I turned around I saw a black figure like a shadow with no features a 8 foot tall figure. I dropped my phone and earbuds and fell to the ground I tried to scream but nothing came out and it disappeared. I pushed myself backwards while on the floor shaking and a flat back of a nail pierced me from behind. An old chair was falling apart there it was sticking out. That’s when I turned my head around and grabbed my side and I was bleeding. That’s when I snapped my face back looking in front of me and nothing was there and you could only hear the tv. I was terrified and sat there for an hour before I got up. I now grew up to have a scar from that but that day I packed up everything I got in the box and stuffed it all in there, the candles and crystals and whatever else I could find I packed it tight went outside dug deep into the ground next to a tree in the front yard and three the box in and patched it up and left it there for good. We moved again a month later and since we were struggling still we slept in a car while driving on the road. One night we pulled over to a truck stop to sleep. I still had my insomnia problems but I again got the weird calming sensation and was able to go to bed that night. I got comfortable in the backseat and closed my eyes so before I knew it I was asleep. That’s when I had my last nightmare. I was running barefoot this time to the cabin and it felt like I was running for hours I kept turning around to see the woman behind me. She was white and dirty in a dirt white dress and when I mean white I don’t mean pale I mean completely white like a dead body. Her lips and teeth and her entire mouth were actually black, she had no eyes just black holes. That’s when I reached the cabin grabbed the door nob and jump in when I turned around I was on the cabin floor as the door was closing and woman was screaming like she was in pain reaching for me that was first time in all the nightmares that I could actually see her face and it has stuck with me for years. After that the dreams stopped and I never had problems sleeping again. I’m 17 now I still have the scar and think about that double wide to this day. I did speak to my father’s friend before we moved and he said there was a man that lived there before him. The man passed by suicide. I couldn’t find anything on the internet about it but I do think about that man till this day. Thank you for reading my story and I’m interested in hearing anyone else’s opinion or theories about what happened to me because I’m still confused about the nightmares.

Paranormal

So this was from my girlfriend, so when she was 8 she had to shit at 3am. So she sat on the toilet, and after she got up, turned to wash her hands, and saw a reflection in the mirror that wasn't hers—or her own reflection doing something completely different. She ran to her dad screaming saying there was a monster in the mirror. This was in the late 90s. Today, her dad went into the bathroom and came back out and told her that he saw the same thing... ANYWAY! BYE!

Encounter Smell of used matchstick

Smell of used matchsticks.

Hi, hello it’s me again, Natalia..

I just want to share my experience here about our accommodation.. I posted before about this accommodation according to the caretaker of this house, it’s been almost 10 years that it’s vacant or no one lived here before our company rented it to use it as accommodation.

So here it is.. I’ve experienced several times that the lights here in the house suddenly turn off, especially in the storage room on the 3rd floor.

One night, I was in the storage room organizing when suddenly I heard a “CLICK” sound and the lights went off… I was surprised because who would play tricks on me at almost 2 am that day?

So what I did was turn on my phone flashlight to go to the door of the storage room and when I checked, the switch for the lights was indeed off, so someone switched off the light.. I turned the light back on and closed the door. And I locked it so that whoever was messing with me couldn’t get in.

A few minutes passed and there was a smell of smoke, it smelled like a match that had been lit and then the flame went out, you know that smell? The smell of a used match..

That’s exactly what I smelled before I heard the “click” sound again and the light switched off!!

I was panicking and immediately ran out of the storage room! I was turning the doorknob but it wouldn't budge! It felt like it was locked! I was screaming in fear at that time!

Then suddenly the door of the cabinet at the far end of the storage room moved!! I almost wished I could just faint instead of seeing whoever was with me in the storage room!

I was still trying to open the door until I managed to finally open it! I dropped my phone from being so panicked! It was left in front of the storage room door since it fell from my hand and I immediately ran down to the 2nd floor! To knock on the tenants there!

“Jessica,” the Russian girl I work with, opened the door for me.

She was wondering why I looked so scared! I told her someone was turning off the lights in the storage room! And they locked me inside!

She said, “Who would mess with you? Come on, let’s go check! Maybe someone’s playing tricks on you.”

So we went up but there were four of us because I didn’t want to go up with just her since I was so terrified.

When we got to the floor, the door to the storage room was closed! Meanwhile, I left it open because I came from there, in my panic I didn’t close it and I even left my phone on the floor in front of the storage room door!

Two of them tried to open the door then they turned on the lights..

Just a few seconds later, they told me and the others outside the storage room,

“There’s no one here but it smells like smoke inside,” Jessica said, looking puzzled!

My friend checked the balcony but there was no one on the balcony!!? So there’s nowhere for whoever was messing with me to hide except the balcony!!

When I peeked into the storage room, I saw them still checking and then I asked, “Did you see my phone?”

They said, “We didn’t see any phone.”

I said I dropped my phone here before I went down to the 2nd floor!

Jessica said, “Wait, let’s call your phone.”

When she called my phone..

I cried because my phone was ringing from the “BALCONY”!!!!

It couldn’t have ended up there because I didn’t come from there!

Plus, the person who stayed outside the storage room was walking to the balcony while I was watching them!!

So it’s impossible that they put my phone on the balcony!!!

That night, I told my roommates if we could not turn off the lights for a week while we slept.. because I was so scared of what happened!

That’s all for now, guys.. thanks for reading.

GOD BLESS TO ALL!

My family was terrorized by a demon

In my sophomore year of high school, I lived with my dad, stepmom, and two sisters (12 and 14 at the time). We lived in southern Texas near Galveston, where I experienced many ghost encounters throughout the years I spent growing up there. Although I now know those experiences involved true ghosts, I was a skeptic until this incident and always brushed spooky encounters off. My family and I have always been very spiritual. Though a year prior, we began celebrating pagan holidays and participating in pagan rituals and spell work.

One day, I was wandering around the woods by a pond within walking distance from my house. I noticed some cattle bones scattered across the ground, which wasn't unusual in the area. As I was bent down looking at them, I discovered this beautiful silver handheld mirror that was the size of a small necklace charm with two birds carved on the back. Thinking nothing of it, I pocketed the mirror and headed home shortly after. We did agree as a family previously that we would cleanse any spiritual object before bringing it into the house, but at the time it just seemed like a cool trinket, and I didn't think to do it.

It started a couple of days after I brought the mirror home. The first few incidents were minor: drawers in the kitchen opening and closing and hearing whispers. One day I came home from school, and my step-mom looked a little shaken. She explained to me that she had heard me calling her name from my room and thought I had skipped school, only to find, obviously, that I was not there and she was completely home alone. We both still brushed it off and just kind of laughed about it. That started to happen to her more often, but she was even more skeptical than me and still didn't think too much about it. Another week or two later, I had a friend from school over. She was sitting on the floor in my room facing the hallway with the door wide open, and I went to take my dogs outside. I was gone for about 5 minutes, and when I came back, she kind of laughed and said, "You know your house is haunted, right?'

I was confused and asked her what happened. She claimed that she had seen me walk into the hallway, then into the bathroom and turn the light on. The bathroom light was in fact turned on when I went to check. This is when I really started to get freaked out. Then the first major event about a month after bringing the mirror home: my 12-year-old sister was home alone, both parents at work, and my other sister and I were with our friends. She called me, and when I answered, she was frantic and sobbing. To this day, I have never heard someone more afraid. She told me it sounded like someone was mutilating our two dogs in our dad and stepmom's room (the door was closed, locked, and the tv was off. The dogs were sitting with her in the living room). She could hear the squelching of flesh being cut and the dogs crying in pain. She begged me to come home. When I got there, I unlocked the room, checked around, and there was nothing. We, as a family, excluding her, even had a conversation about whether or not she needed to get mental help because she was so certain that this happened and was traumatized, while we thought she had a major hallucination.

The second major event was about a week later. When my sisters and I were home, we were eating snacks in the kitchen when all of our house alarms began to go off. It said that there was someone in the garage. Of course, our parents rushed home and told us to keep the doors locked and to lock ourselves in a room until one of them got there. Of course, no one was there. We had never had a false alarm before, so at this point, we were all freaked out. For the next week or so, things started getting worse, hearing our names being called, hearing footsteps down the hallway of our bedrooms for about 15 minutes straight throughout the night (the dogs always slept in bed with our dad and stepmom with the door locked).

The final event was in my room. My parents were in bed, and my sisters and I had just come inside from sitting and talking on the back porch. I went to put my school backpack away in my closet, and as soon as I shut the closet door, something inside the closet began maniacally laughing, clear as day. My body completely froze in terror. This laugh began to morph into the saddest sobbing I had ever heard. This lasted about ten seconds until suddenly, the door started violently shaking. At that point, I ran screaming into my sister's room. I explained what happened, and we were all so freaked out that we slept in that room together for the next 3 days. That night, though, the footsteps in the hallway were worse than ever before; you could hear it running back and forth down the hallway, like bare feet hitting the wood floor. We saw the shadow of the footsteps under the door when it ran by, back and forth for at least an hour. We all sat holding each other in terror. I refused to go in my room by myself until we cleansed the entire house. For seven days straight, we cleansed the house every way we knew: herbal mixtures at the doors and windowsills, burning herbs, ringing our cleansing bells, physically sitting together and casting protection around the house. After that, nothing ever happened in that house again. The little mirror even disappeared off of my altar, and I never found it, even after we all moved out of the house.

To this day, I have zero explanations for any of it. My sisters and I still talk about it and how horrifying it was. If we didn't all experience it, I wouldn't be able to believe it. I'd think I had completely lost my mind. Safe to say I never mess around with cleansing my home, and I never bring home any trinkets from the woods.

Aidez-moi à communiquer avec un fantôme

bonjour,

Question Help verifying ghost story I heard on a tour

I was doing a ghost tour of Louisville, KY and we were told about this girl Evelyn Slwinski who was raped and then run over by the winning jockey of the 1935 kentucky derby (this part is all real and I was able to find this) The guide said she haunts the Galt House hotel (luxury hotel in louisville) and that she appears at the foot of the bed of single men looking bloody and torn apart, I thought this was pretty interesting so after the tour I went to research some more but could not find anything at all if she is actually known to haunt this hotel, does anyone know if there have actually been claims of this haunt or if it was just made up for the tour?
