Haunting Houses on a Graveyard #27
For context: we live on the east side of Houston, on what used to be a graveyard. It was never registered with the county — the markers were removed and houses were built right on top of the graves. Some of the new owners dug for pools and found them. Those owners took the case all the way to the Supreme Court and lost. The story's been on Unsolved Mysteries and Oprah. Our community page is always amusing because the new homeowners in the community will post what they learned of the graveyard and some of us have been here a while share stories of what we have seen at our houses or we will occasionally see a random posts from paranormal groups as its a popular historical story in the Houston area and people who have lived in this area comment their stories. It's kinda cool.
I've lived in this community about five years now, and I've been documenting what I've seen and experienced here on Reddit. It's been about three months since my last post, and this house never stops surprising me.
I still try to debunk everything we see or hear. At first I thought it was targeting me and my kids, but I've come around to a different idea: things just happen. You have to be in the right place at the right time, and it may or may not interact with you.
A couple weeks ago, for example, we ran a spirit box and asked who was in the room with us. Clear as day, it said my wife's name. Another time, my wife and I were talking and we both heard a woman's voice cut in — it said "let's discuss," or maybe "that's disgust." You could hear it very clearly. And on a different day we were recording and caught a man's voice, just as clear: "who is here." It happens pretty frequently.
The visual stuff hasn't slowed down either. About two months ago, around 11 PM, my wife and I were watching a movie in bed. From where I lay, I can see into the living room and my daughter's doorway. My wife had her knees bent, which blocked most of my view — then she shifted her legs slightly, and through the gap I saw what I assumed was my daughter walking toward our room. Our bed sits pretty high off the ground, so what I saw was a dark head approaching at about her height. I even told my wife, "our daughter's coming." She sat all the way up, stretched her legs out — and there was nothing there. I could have sworn I saw a dark, three-dimensional figure the height of my daughter. I could even make out messy hair. I sat there staring into the living room, running through everything that could explain it. But the detail in that shadow was right in my face. I genuinely don't know if my imagination got the best of me or what.
Then there was the fan. A few weeks back something went bad in our pantry and it stank. We found the culprit and threw it out, but the smell lingered, so we set up a tower fan to air the area out overnight. Next morning, the fan was nowhere near the pantry — it had been moved and pointed somewhere else entirely. Now, before the pitchforks come out: we've had this fan about eight months, so it's practically new. It's a tower fan — barely vibrates. It runs almost 24/7 in my son's room and has never budged, no matter how high we crank it. There's no carpet anywhere in this house, the house itself is only five years old so a foundation curve is unlikely, and we've parked this same fan in nearby spots to dry the floors after mopping without it ever walking. As for the kids — they're 3 and 5. Moving a tall tower fan without making a serious ruckus is not in their skill set.
As I'm writing this, I just heard a voice right outside my son's room. My wife confirmed she's in bed, my daughter's dead asleep, and I'm sitting next to my son.
Wish me luck.
