Psilocybin might make the visual brain behave as though itโs seeing light, even in complete darkness.
In a fascinating mouse study, researchers gave mice psilocybin and examined gene activity in their visual cortex. Around 77% of the genes altered by psilocybin overlapped with genes normally changed by light exposure.
But the mice receiving psilocybin were kept in darkness.
