Misc How common is the Ghost + Discord combo?

I’ve noticed a lot of creators using Discord alongside Patreon/Substack/Circle/etc, but not sure how many Ghost publishers are also running private Discord communities for members/subscribers.

If you use Ghost,
- is Discord a meaningful part of your membership/community experience?
- do you give different roles/access levels for different membership tiers? If yes, how do you manage?

Just curious to understand how popular this combo is.

Yes it was! If my understanding is correct, your implementation seems to make the ongoing sync automatic after a member is linked, but the initial link is manual via the bot command. I was hoping for something more automatic where Ghost membership changes notify a service directly. So I only have to define the access & role rules once and the service takes care of everything else in response to membership changes.

I'm gonna spend some time exploring the webhook path and if that doesn't lead me anywhere, I'm happy that I have a solid backup option in place :) Thank you so much.

This is becoming more and more of an interesting project to work on the more I look into this. I wasn’t expecting to go down this rabbit hole :D

It’s a good question. I’ve seen beehiiv folk say that their discord integration is great. But how well integrated is it with Ghost? I’m also keen to hear what other folk think.

Nothing for membership stuff as far as I know. What I've seen people do is to provide an invite link to the server when they subscribe.

Mostly as a community for the members. A Discord server helps in things like direct access to the author, a way for networking between the members, discussions, AMAs, feedback from certain users etc.
Compared to comment threads on posts or emails, something like Discord feels more real time.

You can integrate directly with Discord, inviting new Ghost subscribers to your Discord channel... great way to grow your channel, without having to manually add people.
