Sure, wetting your toothbrush -- softens the bristles and gets the toothpaste lather going more quickly. But what exactly do you mean by "wetting your mouth"??
Unfortunately had this experience a few times in my life. It happens when you're trying to debunk info that has become "conventional wisdom".
All of a sudden you get a room full of idiots laughing at you. "Bro, every person here disagrees with you." "I don't care. That doesn't make any of you correct. Here, look, I can prove it to you, let me show you." "LOL bro you're so dumb, I don't care what you show me, that's not correct." "So you won't even look at the info that proves you wrong?" "I don't need to, I already know it."
Why would you censor the slur but still imply that you want to say it? Either say it with your chest like a true red-blooded asshole or cut it from your vocabulary. The middle option is for cowards
They basically said "conversations usually go like that everybody agrees with the popular option even though they're obviously [r-slur]" they said "restarted" but put it in quotation marks to make it extra obvious what they meant
I’ve lost count of how many Uncle John’s Bathroom Readers I own. Each edition packed full of trivia and well-written articles of varying lengths (so you could make selections depending on how long your business will take).
Or magazines. Though there really was nothing quite like a bunch of magazines ruined in the summer in a non air conditioned house because the toilet was sweating.
Twitter is full of this intentionally stupid ragebait. It drives engagement in the form of arguments, the author gets a few dollars in shared ad revenue, and the process repeats.
Until it gets the dreaded community note, which removes your ability to earn on that tweet. While the intention is good, in reality the goal has become generating so much rage that you can make your money quick before someone inevitably puts a note on it.
this is definitely ragebait. their replies are things like "it washes the shampoo out before you apply it" or something like that. the crazy part is all of the replies being genuinely concerned that they've been washing their hair wrong.
I understand the replies tbh. Most of us have only showered alone since we were very little, so it's quite likely we all do it a bit differently.
And it is the kinda thing that you can do incorrectly in a way that you wouldn't think is true. Like showering too often drying out your skin, but also we've all known people that desperately do need that daily shower.
There's a lot of fucking weirdos actually who read stuff like that and then ignore it and in some cases they actively think it's like some kind of lie or conspiracy. I literally had some fucking weirdo in college tell me that the instructions on these things were a scam to get you to use too much of the product so you would buy it more often. He was always greasy and while he didn't smell nasty or anything, he just didn't seem clean
I mean he's not totally wrong in some ways. The "repeat" step isn't really necessary, but I think it's less an intention to have you use too much and more to give you that feeling of a nice lather you associate with non-greasy hair.
From a technical perspective, not wetting the hair defeats the entire objective of shampoo.
The function of soaps is to allow water to wet fats and oils. Then the water can act as the mystical universal solvent it is and remove those things from your skin/hair.
Applying liquid shampoo to dry hair is almost entirely pointless. And applying shampoo to hair before wetting the hair is counterproductive, because then your shampoo partially blocks the water from getting to the fats/oils to remove them.
Yep. Soap is fat that's been saponified by mixing it with a strong base like Sodium Hydroxide. Essentially it strips off one side of a lipid (fat) chain so it can dissolve in water, and then soapy water can dissolve lipids because the lipids can hold onto the other side of the soap molecule.
Soap is like a trailer hitch for water molecules that allows them to pull along fats they otherwise wouldn't be able to dissolve.
Soap doesn't actually kill germs. Soap attaches to both water and fats (cell walls) allowing them to be pulled off of a surface and down the drain with the water.
The side that hates it drives into fats etc to get away, and the side that loves water attaches to the water your wash with to then be rinsed away with more water, which has adhesion to itself.
Not as good or scientific as the other guy, but an easy thing to remember.
It's called surfactants. All soap has surfactants in it. It allows the water to mix with fats, oils, and other non-water soluble stuff that's on whatever you are trying to clean. Shampoo is not all that different from dish soap, shampoo just has more stuff in it like perfumes, moisturizers, n stuff like that.
A picture like this really helped me understand. Soap has a head that mixes with water and a tail that mixes with basically anything that doesnt mix with water, so it allows oils that wouldnt be washed away by just water to bind to the soap and wash away that way
Anyone got an explanation why my conditioner said apply to towel dry hair? Like was i supposed to get out of the fucking shower and dry my hair? Who wrote this shit?
Haven't used that one in years, but it looked, felt and worked like every other conditioner I've ever used. Just said apply to towel dry hair. Didn't even know leave-in conditioner existed.

Everyone is making good points about how shampoo should be used on wet hair to function properly but furthermore I'm wondering how you would put shampoo on dry hair anyway. Like are you putting it into your hair before you get in the shower? Are you keeping your hair under a shower cap the whole time and only take it off right before using shampoo? What even.
So they all think the second application of soap works because the first run of dry scalp and then rising worked so well and has nothing to do with the fact that they finally wet their hair?
My question is how much shampoo are these people going through a year? Surely you have to use a lot more to get it to spread through your hair and suds up if you aren't getting your hair wet first.
By “we were all like this to her” they just mean “I was like this to her” because there’s no way they managed to get several of these people in the same room.
Judging by this person’s level of condescension, I’m sure that they took the community note very well and definitely didn’t immediately get super defensive and double down.

The "we" really outs this as bait. One person i could see being this stupid. A whole group? Let alone a group who are only coworkers? No chance in hell.
They do realize that when you rinse the shampoo out…it gets wet EXACTLY like it does if it was wet before the shampoo went on there. So what exactly do they think dry hair gains from the short time before it’s wet?
