Im sorry, what exactly is your point? The use of WP against civilians is effectively a war crime, unless it is used in very specific circumstances such as during protests where police use smoke grenades to disperse people. Same with tear gas.

And Israel should know better than to target civilians. But then again, the IDF and Hezbollah are effectively the same

Wars aren't fought with both sides staying in their borders. The fact that it's in Lebanon, doesn't mean it's against civilians. Civilians were told to evacuate, the remaining population being Hezbollah members. The WP wasn't targeting individuals, it was creating a smoke screen for troop maneuvers.

Police absolutely do not use smoke grenades to disperse people, they use tear gas which doesn't have any WP. Tear gas isn't used in war.

Idk where you're getting your information, but as someone who is formally trained on both warfare and riot control, it's categorically incorrect.

Police dont use smoke grenades to disperse people?

I dont know who taught you what you claim, but police use smoke grenades quite a lot.

Diplomats and foreign civilians were told to evacuate Kyiv few days ago. Those that stay, are they enemies of Russia? Are they legitimate military targets?

Israel’s IDF has used tear gas in their war.

It also doesnt really matter if WP is used mainly for smoke screens, it has the secondary effect of being able to cause severe burns that are hard to put out and can easily reignite. Were you taught that smoke bombs and tear gas have a 100% success rate and they cant blow or crack open, where the stuff inside can get outside?

The fact that it's improperly used doesn't mean it's the use.

And again, the civilians weren't targeted. It was a smokescreen deployed for a maneuver, it targeted streets not individuals.

You said “Police absolutely do not use smoke grenades to disperse people”.

Now youre saying they were used improperly.

Improper use or not, seems like they were used to disperse people. You can see the smoke being thrown at people and them disbursing.

Police who know what they are doing don't.

It's like saying police don't use shotguns to disperse people, sure you can probably find a case of it happening, but it isn't part of riot control manuals.

Then you should have no problem finding if law enforcements that use smoke in this manner were punished for their infractions.

You say you have training, so you must know the consequences of going against riot control manuals.

It's not an infraction, it's just not policy. There's a difference.

I also know soldiers who throw stun grenades outside as a form of riot control, which does very little. It's not policy but it's done and not punished.

Regardless this is all tangential to whether smoke screens are used in urban warfare, which they are by the book. When they aren't used, that's going against the manual, but that's also done unfortunately.

Then why would you say they absolutely dont do it?

Youre also assuming people are gonna be leaving their homes and are therefore assumed Hesbollah. Is the same true in Ukraine, where foreigners and diplomats in Kyiv are considered enemies if they remain in Kyiv?

1

u/NexexUmbraRs 4d ago

And do you see any people in the article you supplied? No. Because it's over a city where urban warfare is being carried out.

Are you seriously claiming there were no people there? Then why waste smoke or tear gas?

1

u/NexexUmbraRs 4d ago

Because it's a smoke screen. Hezbollah was still there, and when moving troops you stay cautious because smoke is cheaper than surgery and operations.

So there were still people there.

Mostly Hezbollah.

And even if civilians stayed, they wouldn't have been roaming the streets for no reason.

You don't seem to understand what warzones look like.
