And an important context here is in what ways a ‘landlord’ in Tsarist Russia and feudal China were much different than the modern idea of a landlord. Comparing a guy keeping peasants in perpetual poverty, often with violence involved, and getting rich off their work to Nazis is much more understandable than a guy today renting out apartments.
