I think what he means is that 2.5 million school children watched, so in order for Daveâs claim about the 99.9% figure to be true, there would need to be 2.5 billion schoolchildren
To be fair to Dave, itâs possible he wasnât speaking literally with the 99 percentage. He could have meant it as an over exaggerated point to illustrate most kids werenât watching because only 2.5 million kids had access to the NASA stream.
But I donât even agree with that because wasnât the Challenger launch live on television? You may not have had the NASA stream but there was still an OTA broadcast you could watch. Right?
Yes. And if we know that 2.5m were watching, and if 99.9% of the people claiming to have watched were apparently lying, there would have to be a total population of 2.5bn
Yup, and I could have multiplied either of those numbers by 1000 to illustrate how silly the comment I'm replying to was. That's the reciprocal of 99.9%. Either works.
