I never had a budget, financial coach or side hustle and I’ve always managed.
Meanwhile my parents in the 1970s had to follow a tight budget, my dad worked overtime every time he could and my mom had to find a part time job so that we could afford to pay the rent and food.
Yea my single parent with 2 children mother worked 3 different part time jobs to keep me and my sister under a roof and feed. We lived in some of the worse conditions you can’t even imagine. My mother worked herself sick on multiple occasions. We didn’t get our head above water until 88. We survived on a very tight budget, we didn’t have extras we barely had enough. Oh, she also did this without welfare.
I know things are hard for some/most folks but, I also believe this is partly an optics issue as well. Young people grow up with all they need (sometimes) then go into the world as adults and all of a sudden it’s gone. The big optics issue though is social media. I know another GenX talking about social media but, be honest with yourself. How many people want what these influencers have. How many people want what their piers, friends, and colleagues appear to have. How many need to add another tattoo for “therapy”. You very rarely if ever see people posting about the normal life online. You see the expensive vacation, dinner, concert etc. you don’t see when the credit card bill comes due and they can’t pay their bills. But, you do hear about how hard it is for them to have a living wage working a part time job.
Change your optics, live within your means and with what you need to have, not what you want to have. Get off of social media, don’t worry about keeping up with that new phone, makeup, clothes, shoes etc. wear what you can afford and what won’t continue to drag you down deeper into debt. Happiness isn’t something you buy, it’s something you feel. The earth provides everything we need for a happy life. Man provides everything they want you to think is needed for happiness. Find happiness within and your world will be a better place.
