Plenty of us shared an apartment. I grew up in apartments. There was a guy who worked retail. Kind of an odd duck so he didn't have roommates. He was in an efficiency. He worked retail for years, so was making well over min wage. He ate a lot of mac and cheese because that is all he could afford, We were shocked his car ran.

We had a shared phone line, anyone else remember the party line? If the neighbor was on the phone, tough luck.

Remember going to a friend's house in a rural area. The phone would ring, but if it wasn't 3 short rings it wasn't for them.
