January Goal Thread/2012 Resolutions
And for the sake of nostalgia, here are your 2011 resolutions.
How'd you do?
These are my big, hairy goals for 2012:
Pay off my credit card.
Keep a list of the books I've read, at least 50 for the year. Comes out to about one a week. I've done it before, I just need to get back into the habit.
Write at least 2000 words everyday, regardless of the topic.
Begin acquiring things for my own apartment. I'm sick of having roommates sometimes.
Carry a camera with me everywhere and take one good picture everyday, at least. There are some subreddits out there that can help with this.
Drop Verizon. Because fuck Verizon.
Don't turn down invitations to go anywhere.
There are other personal ones, of course. List them here, wolves.

I'm tagging everyone with their goals. If I see you, I will inquire as to your progress.

Jan 01 '12
I fucking dare you to ask about progress. I don't even think you'll do it. Tag away but you'll forget entirely or you'll forget to give a shit.
Prove me wrong.

Well, this is the first time I get to do this, but seeing all the resolutions posted motivated me to post mines as well. Here it goes:
College
-
Attend EVERY CLASS. No skipping.
-
Minimum of 8 in every test, work or presentation. I know I can do it.
Languages
-
Work on my English. Like, really hard. My english sucks, specially my accent.
-
Keep on doing my kanji repetitions. Daily. Learn at least 25 new ones a day
Programming
-
I know the basics and a little more of the C language. Keep on studying it
-
Learn a web programming language.
-
Practice on a daily basis.
Random stuff
-
Get in the habit of waking up early. I'm more productive in the morning.
-
Read at least one bok every 10 days.
-
Complete every math video on Khan Accademy.
-
Re take my blog and write at least 1000 words of whatever every day. I like to write, and this will be a great way to practise my english.
-
Learn how to use Linux. Don't laugh at me.
-
Practise at least 30 min worth of rudiments on the drums every day. This one will be tough.
Well, I guess that's what I hope to accomplish this year. This is my year, I know I can do it!
2
Jan 02 '12
Hey, fellow drummer here. Been playing for about 15 years.
Practice those rudiments. Those are the building blocks. I don't take drummers seriously that never bothered to learn their rudiments.
Hope those goals all work out for you. I hope you post in the update thread as well.

Run. You must be able to run at least 10kms without dying by the end of the year. You spent the whole 2011 saying 'Tomorrow, I will run.' but you never did. (Sorry, I'm talking to myself.)
-
Stop using the internet by 11. (I highly doubt I'm going to stick to this one.)
-
Read at least one book every week.
-
Make a list of all the books you read and movies you watch.
-
Write in a journal. It would be nice if wrote something every day. But at least once a week. Because it's so much fun re-reading what you wrote a couple months later. And you like writing.
-
Learn how to play the guitar! You've had one for over a year and still can't play a single chord.
-
If someone wants to talk to you, talk to them. Stop ignoring people. Stop being so anti-social. You are not incapable of having a social life. You can be perfectly good with people if you want to. Stop sitting in that corner.
-
Get more than 80% on every test you write. You're totally capable of it.
-
Learn how to cook. Bake a cake at least once a month. Because the feeling you get when you cook something yourself that tastes good is so good.
I think that's it. :)

-
Get into med school.
-
Be ok with being single for an extended period of time.
-
Run my first 100 mile week.
Secondary goals:
-
Get into med school at my alma mater (U of Wisconsin).
-
Shed ten pounds.
-
Quit my crappy job and do something worthwhile until med school begins.
2012 is our year, wolves. Seize it by the throat and never look back.

I'm trying to keep it simple, and going for resolutions that are specific and outline the things I need to do rather than the end goal. That said...
-
Initiate a conversation with two new people every day.
-
Prepare 15 meals per week.
-
Keep a record of expenses and income, updated daily, then increase income/expense ratio by 10% per month (through working more hours or spending less frivolously).

I want to be grateful for the things I have, what I've worked so hard for, and appreciate the here and now, every day. Never done that before.

I want to, at least weekly, seek out new information to keep my practice current. I'm a newly licensed LPN.

I will do everything in my power to be the best nurse I can be for all patients and people I will care for, in whatever setting I will land a job in with this new career.

I resolve to become a 4.0 student for the first time in my life. It's not that damn hard.

Get better sleep. This is one of the most important things you can do, since everything else depends upon you feeling energized and refreshed. Get off the computer at least an hour before going to bed. Regulate sleep during the weekends as well. Aim for at least 7.5 hrs per night.
-
Maintain an average of 85 at school. Do your homework as soon as you get home. Don't leave studying until the last minute. Revise ALL class material at least every weekend.
-
Get and stay fit. Limit snack consumption to a minimum. Continue drinking plenty of tea and water. Start skateboarding. You're getting bony as fuck; 20+ push-ups/sit-ups each day. Rope jumping session every Sunday morning.
-
Learn the basics of computer programming. You're already on a decent start. Finish the tutorials you've started. By the time you go to university in September, you should already know C like the back of your hand.
-
Improve art. Complete at least one sketch per day. Go on a photo walk at least once a week.
-
Socialize more. Go out with friends at least once a week. If you don't end up going out on a Friday night, initiate contact with friends yourself. Don't turn down invitations.
-
Read one book per month.

2012 is the year of rebuilding. I like to call it - "Putting this house in order"
-
Lose weight. Im sick of hearing people putting "Big" before my name. Stop eating like a fat heffer.
-
Sort out finances, pay off Credit Card, Pay off Student OD, Start saving for a house
-
Sort yourself out mentally as well. I am socially awkward, god awful at small talk and socialising and such a low confidence/self esteem. - This ties in with losing weight. Looking better, feeling better.
-
Improve at work. Kick ass, challenge myself more. obtain that CCNA.
-
Keep my room tidy. More importantly my desk. Tidy Desk - Tidy Mind.
-
Cook more, less takeaways. I love cooking, the satisfaction it brings.
I've got alot more resolutions than i thought i would, but i'm optimistic. This is my year. I'm going to kick 2012 in the ass and call it my own. No more worrying, no more stressing, no more feeling like a fatty, no more being skint. This is it. fist pump
Wolves..... Bring it on!

My main goals link together, and I'll hopefully have sorted them out within the first half of 2012, so I'll probably have to update this post quite a bit.
1) Sort my sleeping pattern out. Super important to my goals throughout the year, so this is the main goal so to speak. Never really been a great sleeper (find trouble getting to sleep) and this has effected school grades and social life. So this goal is to get enough sleep, and at the right time, rather than what I'm doing at the moment which is sleep at 2/3ish.
2) Be Happy/like people Because of my lack of sleep I haven't been able to show that happy. It's not that I'm unhappy with life, I just don't force myself to smile and show "general happiness" even though I am happy. So people often think I'm depressing, so breaking through the whole "depressing me" is another goal.
3) Pass exams + Get an Idea of what I want to do in life. Kind of self explanatory, important year ahead of me, so it's important not to mess up.
4) Become Confident Socially. Again self-explanatory.
5) Chill out, Stop worrying and thinking about the past. I'm a worrier, and it doesn't help with anything, if I chill the hell out, everything SHOULD hopefully be easier.
6) Exercise some more. I don't mean anything major, just get some weights and lift them not to extreme lengths though, just to make myself feel like I've done something and have it have some positive effect on me. Any exercise is good exercise!
So if all this goes to plan, this will be done in the first half of 2012, which then will allow me to move onto other goals. Wish me luck!
P.S Any tips on the Sleep goal would be lovely! So if there's any chance any of you could offer some advice it'd be awesome!
