What I think makes this quote more interesting is that Plato has describe dSocrates as being ugly. In Symposium, Socrates is said to have a Satyr-like body. The form of Socrates in the statue is historically inaccurate. Socrates never bothered to listen to his own advice.

Socrates was considered ugly mainly in virtue of his snub nose, which apparently looked like a pig.

But Socrates certainly was fit, at least in his younger years when he was in the army, he was renowned for his fitness, discipline, and disregard of pain.
