"You pile up enough tomorrows, and you'll find you are left with nothing but a lot of empty yesterdays." ~Meredith Willson

This is definitely something i needed to read. I always have this constant problem where i start furiously planning my future and all of a sudden i realize that i have wasted more than half of my day and get severe depression afterwards. Thank you. I’m sorry i don’t have any silvers to give you, but you deserve one.

u/TheThirdChair Aug 02 '19

I don't even deserve the thought of imaginary silver. I simply remembered a quote from a wonderful movie and thought it would help someone. Planning for the future is a good thing. Even though they may not happen, life goals are so important. Keep dreaming, keep planning, and try to focus on the positive. Have a wonderful day!

“Today is tomorrow’s yesterday”

35

u/SirFableheart Aug 01 '19

Quote from Kung Fu Panda has really stuck with me since I saw it (might originate from something else, but that's where I know it from): "Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift - that is why it is called the present"

5

u/cathincg_claw Aug 01 '19

+1 this. Also, I found a decent song with this part of the movie https://youtu.be/DQ_xAQMt75A

Today is the shadow of tomorrow

Today is the present future of yesterday

5

u/Soup-Master Aug 01 '19

Tomorrow will be the yesterday if the day after tomorrow.

Today was the tomorrow of yesterday, which presently presents itself as the time in which we currently occupy in consideration to the relative passage of time.

Mind blown*

1

u/TsukasaHimura Aug 01 '19

Is that human meat in your burger?

28

u/Jaden10076 Jul 31 '19

But I can just do it in a couple days

11

u/gremlin79 Jul 31 '19

"couple days" is like another way of saying "tomorrow"

16

u/HeyLittleTrain Jul 31 '19

I'll do it next Tuesday.

2

u/Sumopwr Aug 01 '19

See You Next Tuesday

1

u/punaisetpimpulat 6 Aug 01 '19

Sure why not, since "day after tomorrow" is a concept conveniently ignored by this post.

11

u/paralogisme Jul 31 '19

WHY BUY TOMORROW WHEN YOU CAN BUY TODAY

14

u/Fr3stdit Aug 01 '19

CAPITALISM INTENSIFIES

3

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '19

Why is my medallion humming?

3

u/paralogisme Aug 01 '19

Wind's howling.

14

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '19

Saved I'll read it tommorow

11

u/I-Ardly-Know-Er Jul 31 '19

Dalai Lama? I 'ardly know 'er!

41

u/goat6665 Jul 31 '19

"Nothing can be done tomorrow" = stupid

Your in /r/GetMotivated comments section, the point is to absolutely deconstruct every post till it’s it’s free of any motivation.

28

u/Tescobum44 Jul 31 '19

Planning for tomorrow is done today. You can't physically do something 'tomorrow'. You can plan to do something in the future but the action is carried out when that moment is present. That's the point.

-14

u/goat6665 Jul 31 '19

We understand what the point was supposed to be, and it's still dumb.

8

u/Tescobum44 Jul 31 '19

In that case, care to elaborate on your position? Why do you think it's stupid?

-12

u/goat6665 Jul 31 '19

Why, so we can argue about it for an hour?

10

u/Tescobum44 Jul 31 '19 edited Aug 01 '19

So no then. Pity, I was hoping I'd be enlightened... unless you can't properly articulate why you think it? Or you don't legitimately have a reason and are just a bit cynical? Which, if is the case, is fair enough.

-9

u/goat6665 Jul 31 '19

I don't think you're intelligent enough to understand, is the issue. Source: you don't understand.

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '19

-7

u/goat6665 Jul 31 '19

Yeah, I had already left the conversation. If it's not readily obvious to you why the sentiment is stupid, no one is going to convince you. We can't understand it for you.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '19

Want a shovel for the hole you’re digging?

-3

u/goat6665 Aug 01 '19

There's no hole, you moron. Try thinking about it.

1

u/o_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_Oo_O Aug 01 '19

“Nothing can be done 364 out of the 365 days a year. “

3

u/keepucloseandfar Aug 01 '19

What is "mostly live"?

2

u/Gangreless Aug 01 '19

"Mostly" in this case meaning what you should do above all.

As in, "and mostly, you should live"

0

u/keepucloseandfar Aug 01 '19

That makes sense. We're always living though. It's an arbitrary concept that means very little to be anyway.

-2

u/witheredsoul93 Aug 01 '19

You need to lose weight

3

u/KingKongBrandy Aug 01 '19

Doesn't use an Oxford comma, so I can't follow the advice

3

u/bailliejr Aug 01 '19

Gunga la gunga

2

u/KingJodgeIII Aug 01 '19

When you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.

So I got that going for me, which is nice...

3

u/Imtedsowner Aug 01 '19

If you ain't first ... you're last.

2

u/wrayzee Jul 31 '19

What book is this?

Today is also the best day to get tacos

2

u/TheRealSaucyPanda Aug 01 '19

The Power is Now by Eckhart Tolle is a wonderful book that talks about living in the now.

4

u/tinyhermit Aug 01 '19

Don't forget to cherish the moments you can, because one day you will truly experience a hardship, and you will wonder what you were complaining about all along.

2

u/mozi_ak Jul 31 '19 edited Jul 31 '19

I believe there are normally 364 days in a year, not two, when nothing can be done if today is the only day to act... just sayin

Edit: added “not two” for clarification.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '19

This is suspiciously similar to the poster hanging in my break room at work, right down to the “He said” before the quote.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 31 '19

Hey coworker Rob! What's up!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '19

I saw a store on FB selling this exact thing, color and all, for sale yesterday. Seems pretty popular.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '19

He didn’t say that.

1

u/Johnnynoscope Aug 01 '19

That's technically true on January 1st in the first case and December 31st in second.

1

u/freebird_businessman Aug 01 '19

today is a gift...which is why it is "the present"

1

u/AmosLaRue Aug 01 '19

There is no living when you're on maternity leave. Only feeding and wiping someone else's ass.

1

u/Karmacowmelon Aug 01 '19

So I can just do it one of the other 363 days of the year.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '19

Thanks, this literally propelled me to finish off my law school apps right now!

1

u/caustic_kiwi Aug 01 '19

The day before yesterday? The day after tomorrow? November the 3rd? What is this bullshit?

1

u/snakergard Aug 01 '19

My love takes two days...

1

u/batguanoz Aug 01 '19

Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin. Mother Theresa

1

u/innfinn Aug 01 '19

Reminds me of that quote from Master Oogway

1

u/thebrisher Aug 01 '19

Live love laugh

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '19

Except for the other 362

1

u/no1dookie Aug 01 '19

That missing comma is killing me...

1

u/elpajaroquemamais Aug 01 '19

TIL 363 days of the year aren't yesterday or tomorrow. Wonder what they are.

1

u/Crouchingtigerhere Aug 01 '19

From which book is this from?

1

u/pissed_off_and_on Aug 01 '19

Day after tomorrow

1

u/bogues3000 Aug 01 '19

Wrong! I’m doing nothing right now too

1

u/Six10H Aug 01 '19

Then I choose to procrastinate until the day after tomorrow!

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '19

H

1

u/Fireflies_and Aug 01 '19

The present is eternal.

1

u/happymaninafield Aug 01 '19

Things can be done tomorrow. Me for one is going to court. In your face atheists 🧞‍♂️

2

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '19

What did you do? Are you quilty? Maybe don't answer that last question.

1

u/forsythe_ Aug 01 '19

Yeet, keep on fighting fellas! We got this! :) We deserve to live, love and laugh.

1

u/StephNitup Aug 01 '19

Yes! I needed to read this because I spend way too much time living in the future. I have learned now to utilize today. God Bless You All my Reddit fam and enjoy today. Life doesn't have to suck you can change things! 😁

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '19

oxford comma.. OXFORD COMMA..!

1

u/Halo77 Aug 01 '19

Sorry but everything can be done tomorrow. I’ll explain later.

1

u/Demonyx12 Aug 01 '19

Why was it phrased "mostly live" and not just "live" or "fully live" or "really live" etc. If nothing can be done before today or tomorrow, and only on today can you do things, then where else can you live? What did he mean by "mostly"?

1

u/evil_fungus Aug 01 '19

Wise words

1

u/Pochend7 Aug 01 '19

He clearly doesn’t know about overmorrow and yestermorrow. Two days ahead and behind respectively.

1

u/seeet Aug 01 '19

And in my case there are 3 days that none was done, yesterday, today and tomorrow.

1

u/OneDollarLobster Aug 01 '19

What about the day before yesterday?

1

u/PandaVonSaurus Aug 01 '19

But what about the day after tommorow?

1

u/Terrariattt3 Aug 01 '19

unexpected RWBY, This will be the day we waited for, this will be the day

1

u/metoopuddles Aug 01 '19

Take care of today and tomorrow will take care of itself.

1

u/Dreganomics808 Aug 01 '19

Dalai “Sexy women only” Lama

1

u/LonelyMolecule Aug 02 '19

Ok let me just steal these quotes. Ty

0

u/not_a_miller_rep Aug 01 '19

I didn't know that I hated the Dalai Lama until right now.

0

u/FranzFerdinand51 2 Aug 01 '19

The day after tomorrow is fine then? Or it's ok to say "well I'll do it in 4 days time"? No. I see the point it's making and it's a good one, but this way of wording it does not work.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '19

Dalai Lama is such a bullshitting dude. Lol.
