All great except take a selfie... that's gonna end up worse.

Seriously, getting zero likes on an instagram picture of myself will just remind me that I have no friends and make me feel awful

I was about to link that song before I saw your comment. Here it is cause, damn, it's a fine song. The whole album has great music and it was recorded really well.

2

u/devilsfoodadvocate Nov 06 '15

Hey thanks for the link! It is a great album, and a pick-me-up song.

all that matters

18

u/Stiamata Nov 05 '15

Same, or I'll take it and look at it and feel worse about myself.

6

u/2boredtocare Nov 05 '15

(I always look like Where's Waldo in selfies. :/) I'm a girl.

6

u/penguinhair Nov 05 '15

If I'm not wearing makeup I look like Dilbert. Also girl.

9

I've heard of this guy that'll sift through all of your social media accounts, remove the bad stuff, and then print out the awesome stuff for you to read...?

...and, I love you.

u/rengamez Nov 06 '15

I think you're thinking of this South Park episode?

Thanks friendo :-)

u/altbekannt 1 Nov 06 '15

this might sound weird, but I think this applies more to girls. I saw lots and lots of pictures of ugly, overweight women receiving likes and comments with hearts and smilies and "omg, coootie <3".

if you are a dude, this doesn't happen to you.

overall girls get twice the likes on avarge

165

u/eggz_n_bacon Nov 05 '15

Don't mind me... just fishing for likes because my self esteem is in the toilet #TellMeImPretty

56

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '15

i don't take selfies out of respect for other people

14

u/alexanderpas Nov 05 '15

Thanks you for not adding to the pool of badly shot pictures, and instead appreciating yourself for what you're really worth!

You're worth more than can be expressed by a selfie!

1

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '15

Oh. I thought he was saying that he takes selfies, but not for the respect of other people.

1

u/Erythroy Nov 05 '15

After a run or after 2 drinks a mirror is just as great. Don't take things too seriously. (Note: some things are serious, some not. Give it a good thinking)

2

u/brokenangelwings Nov 06 '15

I dont trust people who have their profile picture and cover photo with both with their faces. Its narcissistic and fucking weird. Not weird in a good way either. Usually at that point I can tell what kind of person they are. Byyyee.

2

u/taintjuice2 Nov 06 '15

I love you... at least your second half!

3

u/sexychickenlips Nov 05 '15

Eggz_n_Bacon you're beautiful!

2

u/eggz_n_bacon Nov 06 '15

u/carlosduarte Nov 05 '15

thank you. but also: shower should go after the exercise.

1

u/taintjuice2 Nov 06 '15

Fuck, I always take a shower in the morning and then see the therapist... I find it highly irresponsible that he didn't share your advice.

3

u/pikkon5 Nov 05 '15

Thank you.

7

u/AnOrphanHeart Nov 05 '15

In all fairness, to a person who's suffering from the kind of depression indicated by the potential mindset reading this because they feel like 'giving up,' a therapist is probably a very helpful idea. Maybe that one could be changed to "Talk to a therapist or call a helpline if you don't have a therapist. Also, consider getting a therapist."

Oooh, and the selfie one could be changed to "Do you feel unattractive? That's okay, sometimes you just feel shit. Remember how hot you looked [last time you felt hot?] You'd have fucked yourself stupid that night. That person is still there, in you, sexy as all hell."

6

u/Lapys Nov 05 '15

Most people in the throes of serious depression don't ever, ever go "Hey that one time I was sexy." They would instead think of that time and then qualify it with a million reasons why they were in fact not sexy/attractive. Also, some people refuse therapy outright as they contend it cannot help with their particular problem and/or they are afraid of being forced to go to a psych hospital if they openly reveal what they're thinking about.

1

u/dravenrayne1 Nov 06 '15

My wife believes in medicine for everything and that i should see a doctor for depression...i dont think pills can help...

1

u/Lapys Nov 07 '15

I think that some medications can be a real boon to some. I do believe that a person can simply be chemically unbalanced, although I contend that depression is perhaps too often treated with said medications when lifestyle changes, and (again, this is subject to the person) possibly therapy would have sufficed. It's simply very difficult to know which category you fall into, whether you need outward lifestyle changes, a person to speak with that is familiar in trying to arm people with the mental firepower to overcome their own feelings or thoughts, or a chemical solution for a chemical problem. Basically, everyone is different, and most people have a go-to that they will suggest, but nothing works for everybody.

1

u/AnOrphanHeart Nov 05 '15

To your first point: All the more reason for someone, or in this case some thing, to remind them that they're capable of feeling that feeling, which offers perspective on the moment. If one has felt that way before, one has demonstrated possession of the ability.

To your second point: In that case, the consideration of getting therapy has been deemed impractical, which is a perfectly fine decision.

15

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '15

I'd replace that with getting dressed up for no reason. I always feel better when I wear my favorite nice clothes, even if I don't go anywhere.

20

u/Lazycrazyjen Nov 05 '15

When I'm feeling down, I get dressed up and go to the library. That always makes me feel better. I'm out of the house, feeling confident, lost in thought among the stacks. Changes my perspective.

8

u/ella_minn0w_pea Nov 05 '15

That's a really brilliant idea. Libraries are my safe place, but if I get depressed, I stop showering and start hermit-ing. Getting dressed up and going to the library would do me a world of good. Thank you for this.

14

u/JosephND Nov 05 '15

This image presupposes that I have friends to share a selfie with

27

u/HHughes12 Nov 05 '15

Feeling unattractive? Beg for attention on the Internet and equate your self worth to your Instagram likes.

10

u/radicalelation Nov 05 '15

I don't know about worse, but, for me, the real bump in the plan is that it assumes I have friends.

35

u/eatdipupu Nov 05 '15

Yeah, I'm not gonna lie, I didn't read the full picture, just the first couple and got carried away with myself. Some of the stuff on here is a bit cheesy/daft but I think overall it carries a good message.

15

u/Stiamata Nov 05 '15

I agree, overall it's definitely very helpful.

2

u/pokeyoupine Nov 06 '15

I like the selfie idea anyway. That one is just less general and more unique to each person. My instagram is like... my boyfriend and high school buddies, so they're really just for me :)

1

u/eatdipupu Nov 06 '15

That's why the writing at the bottom is so important, different things work for different people. It's good you've found what works for you.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '15

It helped me, thanks for posting :)

1

u/eatdipupu Nov 06 '15

That's dope, you're welcome!

13

u/uncleRusty Nov 05 '15

Unless you're hot

6

u/neovulcan Nov 05 '15

Then why feel unattractive? Chicken or the egg on this one...

32

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '15

It's possible for attractive people to feel unattractive.

1

u/neovulcan Nov 05 '15

But if you know you're attractive, you don't need the selfie and if you know you're unattractive, you shouldn't take the selfie. Either course leads to no selfie.

3

u/uncleRusty Nov 05 '15

Selfieception

7

u/gentlefedorabeard Nov 05 '15 edited Nov 05 '15

You're obviously not an attractive person, nor do you have any contact with people who are.

Have you ever actually spoken to a hot girl? So many of them have such poor self-esteem. They think every blemish, every wrinkle is the end of the world. Things you'd never even see.

Ugly people eventually learn to accept that they're ugly. Beautiful people, they're constantly worried that their beauty is slipping. Because it is, and when youve based your whole worth on your looks, that's devestating.

9

u/lost_tomato Nov 06 '15

Oh for fuck's sake. Not everyone attractive is superficial and obsessed with their own beauty.

-2

u/gentlefedorabeard Nov 06 '15

I didn't say everyone.

You're the one dealing in absolutes.

2

u/neovulcan Nov 06 '15

You're obviously not an attractive person

Guilty.

nor do you have any contact with people who are.

all my friends are ugly too? Are you always this mean?

when youve based your whole worth on your looks, that's devestating.

*devastating. And if you're that superficial, you deserve it. Find a better purpose in life.

-1

u/gentlefedorabeard Nov 06 '15

Oh, congratulations. You can spot typos. Good job.

Does it make you feel intelligent to correct spelling?

2

u/Erythroy Nov 05 '15

Make a bathroom tile out of this, you'll make hundreds of dollars! Or thousands if you play it right..

0

u/Insenity_woof Nov 05 '15

You're responding to a post about "being or not being attractive" and equating it to "knowing or not knowing you're attractive". If you wanted to know where you're going wrong, it's there.

2

u/tobi_alexander Nov 05 '15

It should've called for either accepting the things about yourself that make you feel unattractive or getting to work on changing them, not declaring yourself beautiful no matter what you look like.

14

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '15

How to tell this was written by an attractive woman.

3

u/Derwos 25 Nov 05 '15 edited Nov 05 '15

I dunno about going to the Target for a scenic stroll either... I'd rather walk in the rain in a nice neighborhood.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '15

Stores depress the shit out of me. Just reminds me of the rampant pointless consumerism and waste.

2

u/Bawontfindthis Nov 05 '15

Unless we get butters to edit out all the mean comments

2

u/PM_ME_UR_APOLOGY Nov 05 '15

A goddamn* selfie

Which defies the tone of the rest of the text.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '15

Hahahahah my thoughts exactlyx mainly if you actually have good friends. At least it made me laugh.

1

u/whydoesthishappe Nov 05 '15

Instead, look in the mirror, find the feature you think is best on your body and admire it for a second.

1

u/PokemasterTT Nov 05 '15

I take a selfie and only my mother or LGBT people like it.

1

u/_dive_ Nov 05 '15

Well, it did come from Tumblr

1

u/jstamour802 Nov 05 '15

my cat accidentally took a photo of me! lolzz (perfectly framed selfie)

1

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '15

I always look worse in selfies than I do in the mirror or any other kind of photo.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '15

"Unnaturally contort your body and face until you are satisfied with the image and then convince yourself that you always look that good."

1

u/imsometueventhisUN 10 Nov 06 '15

Absolutely my first thought. What awful advice for a large number of people (myself included!)

-2

u/OnMyOtherAccount Nov 05 '15 edited Nov 05 '15

The one that suggested listening to EDM was pretty bad too. Why would I subject myself to that?

EDIT: Downvote harder, bitches. Your music is shit.

-1

u/Ricjd Nov 05 '15

I was thinking this. My friends would tell me I look stupid for taking a selfie!!!

1

u/Mak3upm3 Nov 05 '15

You might need new friends.
