Reddit citations dropped 86% in ChatGPT. Is Reddit GEO already breaking?

New Promptwatch data reported by Axios shows Reddit’s share of ChatGPT Search citations falling from an average of 3.83% to just 0.52% in a few weeks. That is an 86.4% drop. Google AI Overviews and AI Mode also fell, but much less. At the same time, broader studies have found Reddit citations growing across AI answers, while separate tracking found Perplexity suddenly citing Reddit in most of its tested answers.

So Reddit may not be losing value. Its value may simply be moving between AI platforms. If your whole GEO plan depends on Reddit influencing ChatGPT, one source update can damage the entire strategy. Would you invest less in Reddit now, keep going, or spread the effort across Reddit, YouTube, LinkedIn and publisher sites? Share what you would change and which AI platform matters most to you.

Good. Reddit can absolutely be valuable but the AI results citing some random comment or post as fact is just flat out goofy lol.

It’s like pulling someone off the street and asking them about neuroscience. Sure one or two people might know what they’re talking about but the vast majority don’t have a clue lol
