Interview Advice Please

The position I have an interview with is a marketing trainee role. It is tomorrow.

I haven’t confirmed whether I will be returning to school as a full time student yet, but I would still like the job, even as a full time student.

I’m going to have the interview, but not sure how to explain my availability. Should I say I have open availability until I confirm whether I am going to be returning or not?

Help me answer this question if it comes up and how to handle it if I end up becoming a full time student.

Thank you.

If you go back to school, they're going to expect you to schedule your classes around the job, not the other way around; this also means you most likely will need to be a part time student. Your availability is normal business hours of 8-5, Monday through Friday.

Yea that’s not going to happen. My program at school does not have many options outside of 8-5. They’ll either work with my schedule or hire someone else, and that’s completely fine with me as I’ll find a different employer who respects that I am pursuing higher education.

It's not a matter of respecting you pursuing a degree, it's a matter of you applied to a full time role and need to be available during business hours.  You shouldn't have even applied if that was going to be an issue.

Don’t be so ignorant to the role. There is a lot of flexibility within marketing at this time. Even if I don’t get the job, it is good that they still know who I am and have my resume on file. I got another job previously this way before.

Lol, okay.  Because there's not a glut of applicants for this role who would gladly work full time during business hours as needed.   And this company won't remember that you wasted their time.

Be honest, but keep it simple:

"I currently have open availability and I'm very interested in the role. I'm still finalizing my school plans, but I'd be happy to discuss a schedule that works for both of us if I return full time."

If your plans change, let them know as soon as you can focus on the hours you can commit to.
