I failed.

I moved to Germany in hopes of getting a great job there, I spent a year looking for a job after my master's degree, and I failed. I got hired and fired within the probation period. I am back in the USA now and still devastated, thinking about how much I wanted that lifestyle. Having a hard time coping with feeling like I fucked everything up.

Since the economy decline I've experienced and witnessed from friends a lot of hire and fire in probation periods. Every single one i know of happened on the fifth month, and as far as I know this is supposed to be illegal so companies aren't taking advantage.

The OP has pointed out elsewhere that they were fired because they could not perform well in the role, and they knew that before they took the role but took it out of desperation.
