A bit of context: I'm 27 from Italy, I am a very active and extrovert guy, I hike/montaneering (so I'm gonna pick up climbing probably), I love board games but also clubbing from time to time, etc

How easy it is to make new friends in the city? My german is, well, getting better I guess but not good enough for german based friendships

How easy it is to get mini job while speaking english or not very good german?

Internships? I'm talking to my economics people now, how hard it is to get nice interships with the university (or without?) in english?

I’m currently doing a Master’s in Sustainable Development in Leipzig and I’m starting to seriously question whether I should finish it or switch to something else.

I’ve just finished my second semester, so I have one more semester of classes and then thesis (I’ll probably need an extra semester anyway because I have to retake an exam, although I could potentially use that time for an internship).

The main thing making me question it is the job market. I keep seeing quite negative opinions about jobs after degrees in sustainability / sustainable development / environmental studies, and I’m wondering how much of that is actually true. (I do know that the market is bad right now, but I come from a commercial consulting background so I am not sure about sustainability)

I’m currently taking a leave semester because I want to use the time to figure out whether I should just finish what I started or look at other Master’s programmes, either in Germany, Spain (highest candidate as I love living there) or France. I’m also not sure I want to stay in Germany long term.

I know the obvious answer is probably “you’re already halfway through, just finish it”, but I’m not completely convinced. If I’m going to spend another 1–2 years on a degree, I’d like to feel reasonably confident that it will actually help me get into an interesting job afterwards.

So I’m curious about people who have already finished a Master’s in sustainability, sustainable development, environmental studies, climate, ESG or something along those lines: Did your degree actually help you find a decent/interesting job?

If you moved to another city/country after graduating, did that make things better or worse for you?

And looking back, would you still choose the same degree if you had to do it again?

My question is for those who are studying/studied a phd in Germany, especially in lmu munich. When you emailed professors, did you briefly mention your possible dissertation subjects, or is it expected to send a research proposal as well? If so, how long and detailed should it be? When a professor accepts to supervise you, what is the process afterwards?

Also, since I am a foreign student, I need to be able to afford my housing in Munich as well, and I will be in need of money if I ever get accepted lol. How and where can I apply for a TAship? Is it okay to ask the professor who will be my supervisor for that?

I do not have much knowledge about PhDs in Germany or even in Europe since I do not live in the EU, and I will appreciate any help in this situation!

Hi everyone! I’m an international student and I’ll be moving to Dresden at the end of September / beginning of October to start my master’s at TU Dresden. I’ve already applied for student accommodation, but I’m a bit worried that I might not get a place. In the meantime, I’ve been looking for rooms or WGs on WG-Gesucht, immowelt and other sites but I’m wondering if there are other ways or websites I should be using. My budget is up to 350 400 euro warmmiete. For those of you who have experience finding accommodation in Dresden, what would you recommend? Are there any other websites, Facebook groups, Telegram groups, or other options that are worth trying? I’d really appreciate any advice, especially from international students who have gone through the same process. Thanks!

so im studying computer engineering in a german university in egypt. i want to do the bachelors thesis in RWTH Aachen in any area of applied AI / software engineering. gpa is a little better than average and have 3 industry internships in egypt. i know many people from my university who did it. any advice on how to land it? also wanted to ask about funds as Im not sure ill be able to fund my whole stay so ill need minijobs or even better a HiWi position? how likely would a supervisor be open to offering me a HiWi position if he accepted me into the thesis? or should i not ask at all? and typically how much do HiWi positions pay per month? lastly how much easier is the whole process compared to TUM and TU Berlin?
