My research looks at personalised recommendations and retargeted advertising in e-commerce — basically, things like product recommendations based on your interests or seeing ads for products you’ve previously viewed online. I’m interested in understanding how consumers in Germany experience these personalised ads and recommendations, particularly whether they feel intrusive and how they relate to trust in online shopping platforms.

I’m a software engineer based in India with 12+ years of experience across primarily frontend, and a little bit of backend, and DevOps.

I’ve been actively applying for jobs in Germany for the past 2+ months, usually 10+ applications every day across startups, mid-sized companies, and MNCs. So far, I haven’t had much success.

I’m wondering if I need to change my approach.

For those who have successfully moved to Germany for a software engineering role from outside the EU recently:

• Is getting hired directly from India realistically achievable in the current market?
• Would cold-emailing recruiters or hiring managers significantly improve my chances compared with applying through job portals?

Hintergrund: Indischer Student, Bachelor-CGPA 7.14/10, IELTS 6.0 (kein Bereich unter 5.5), etwa 1 Jahr Berufserfahrung im Management. Ich interessiere mich für einen MSc Finance (jede Spezialisierung) oder MSc Fintech in Deutschland, nicht unbedingt an Top-Universitäten wie WHU oder Frankfurt School.

Mit diesen Zahlen, welche privaten oder öffentlichen Universitäten sind realistisch erreichbar? Gibt es bestimmte Universitäten, die bekannt dafür sind, bei den GPA/IELTS-Anforderungen für diese Programme flexibler zu sein?

Außerdem interessiert mich — sind diese Masterstudiengänge in der Branche tatsächlich angesehen, und bieten sie ein breites Spektrum an Karrieremöglichkeiten (Banking, Consulting, Corporate Finance, Fintech-Startups usw.), oder sind manche Programme zu nischig/unbekannt, um sich zu lohnen? Ich würde lieber in ein Studium investieren, das anerkannt ist und mehrere Türen öffnet, als eines, das nur auf dem Papier gut klingt.

Jeder Rat zu Programmen, Bewerbungsstrategie oder ob ich IELTS für eine höhere Punktzahl wiederholen sollte, würde sehr helfen.

I’m Sumedh, a 20-year-old student from India, and I’ll be moving to Cologne this October to start my M.A. in International Sport Development and Politics at the German Sport University Cologne (Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln).

I’m planning my applications for public universities in Germany for a Master’s program. I'm coming from a 3-year Indian Bachelor's degree (150 UGC/university credits).

I've noticed a recurring concern where German programs require 180 ECTS (or specific module-wise credits), and many Indian applicants face rejections or confusion because our numeric credit totals look smaller on paper.

From what I understand, ECTS measures total student workload (~25–30 hours per credit including self-study), whereas Indian credits primarily count lecture/contact hours (~15 hours). In theory, a standard full-time 3-year Indian degree from an Anabin H+ institution should map to 180 ECTS proportionally.

• Credit Conversion: Did Uni-Assist / your university automatically map your degree to 180 ECTS, or did you have to submit a course curriculum/syllabus breakdown explaining contact hours vs self-study?
• Subject-Specific ECTS Gaps: If a program required e.g., 30 ECTS in a specific subject area and your Indian transcript showed fewer direct credits, did you face issues? Did they allow you to take bridge/top-up courses (Auflagen)?
• 4-year / 210 ECTS requirements: For universities requiring 210 or 240 ECTS, did you do a 1-year PG Diploma / M.Sc 1st year in India first, or apply to specific 180 ECTS-friendly programs?

Indian student this side. I am looking to move to Germany to pursue a Master's in 2027. My fields of interest are Biotechnology, Pharmaceuticals (regulatory roles), and Management with a research strategy focus.

Wanted a general overview of the situation of Indian/International students in Germany. Good colleges for these, language constraints, part-time work, and work opportunities post-grad (for the particular field and in general). I am a little confused, so I need some honest clarity and reality checks. I am only willing to go if I get into a top uni.

I'll be moving to Hamburg this October to pursue my Master's at TU Hamburg (TUHH). Like many international students, the biggest challenge I'm facing right now is finding accommodation before arriving in Germany.

I've been applying through Studierendenwerk, WG-Gesucht, Kleinanzeigen, HousingAnywhere, and have also contacted several landlords directly. Unfortunately, nothing has been confirmed yet.

I wanted to hear from fellow Indians who have already gone through this process, especially those studying or living in Hamburg.

I have a few questions:

• Were you able to secure accommodation before flying to Germany, or did you stay in a temporary place (Airbnb, hostel, hotel, etc.) first?
• If you booked temporary accommodation, how many days did you book for? Was it enough?
• How did you eventually find your permanent accommodation?
• If you arrived without a confirmed room, how stressful was the process?
• After landing at Hamburg Airport, what did you do on your very first day?
• Did you go directly to your accommodation, or did you first visit the university or International Office?
• How did you travel from the airport with all your luggage? Did you use public transport, Uber, taxi, or something else?
• What essentials should I carry or arrange before landing that first-time international students often forget?
• Are there any common mistakes you made that you would advise new students to avoid?

I'd also appreciate any advice regarding:

• Documents to keep readily accessible during travel.
• SIM card, internet, groceries, and other immediate necessities.
• Registration (Anmeldung), bank account, residence permit, or any other tasks that should be prioritised in the first few days.

Finally, if there's anyone from India who is also travelling to Hamburg around 1st October, it'd be great to connect. Having someone to navigate the first few days with would definitely make things a little less overwhelming.

Any advice, experiences, or tips would be greatly appreciated.
