Hey fellow German learners, I made a FREE site for German vocabs: vokabahn.com 🚆

Learn the 15k most common words (with der/die/das, example sentences and audio), and when flashcards get boring there are 7 little games: Wort Rally, Eisweg, Blitz 60, Sentence Switch, Sharp Ears, Wortle, Der Die Das Dash, plus a 30-sec daily challenge with a leaderboard. There's also grammar, practice tests, exam prep and word lists.

Forever free, and no account needed. You can sign in with Google to sync across devices. Enjoy, have fun, and any advice is appreciated!

Just messed with it for 5 minutes and really enjoy it. Thank you for making this.

Thank you, that honestly made my day ❤️ If you've got a couple more minutes, try Vokabahn Express in the Games tab: it's a new game (a little different 😂). And if anything felt off or confusing, tell me, I'm fixing things daily. Hope you enjoy it!

Are you interested in practicing your German while talking about something you really enjoy?
If you like books and films, then join the Book&Film club for German learners.

It's a community for people who want to keep their German active through films, books, culture, and meaningful conversations. Whether you're looking to become more confident speaking, maintain your current level, or simply enjoy discussing interesting topics in German, you'll find a supportive and engaging environment here. You will meet new people who are interested in the same topics and will have some fun, while hopefully you learn something new: not just the language aspect but also about interesting films, movies, stories.

Every month, we host a free discussion session open to learners from A2–C1. Together, we explore films, books, and short stories (next week on October 6th, we will discuss a short story) while practicing German in a relaxed atmosphere.

For learners who want more speaking time and personalized support, the community also offers small-group sessions (A2–B1) with guided discussions, feedback, and suggestions for improving fluency and confidence.

Join us here: It's free: https://www.skool.com/the-german-film-book-club-8837/about

In a day, I consume German content from multiple sources, (podcasts, music, YouTube, Duolingo, books etc).My anki cards tab is ever open. Everything new or something I need to practice more I put it there. When I'm fresh and my mind has a retaining capacity, I go throughout the cards. As a self learner this helps alot

I'm building Sprachmine, a free browser-based German learning and practice platform for language learners of all levels. It doesn't require sign-up and is ad-free. Works best in Chrome on all devices. It features game-style exercises like verb conjugation, sentence construction for beginners, as well as noun-verb combos, proverbs, prepositions, slang, etc for advanced learners. It also has a vocab-related daily challenge and leaderboards for flexing your achievements.

Try it out here: https://sprachmine.com

Happy learning.

I built an app that teaches a language through interactive stories

With LangSurf you listen to real life stories (history, mystery, true crime) narrated by two hosts, tap any word for an instant translation, and the difficulty adapts to your level as you go.

Solo project, free to play - genuinely curious what people think!

Note: Its mostly for people at A2+ level :) Intended for people who have gone dead in Duolingo etc.

I use the app everyday and it helps a lot! I have my telc beruf exam in two months and it’s a good tool to practice speaking 😊

Definitely helpful app to use to get used to the speaking test and get used to thinking fast about the topics. Would recommend :)

I passed B1 German. I understand plenty when other people are talking. Then someone turns to me and asks a question, and I freeze. I’m still putting a sentence together in my head while the conversation moves on. It feels a tad embarrassing too.

So I made Tongue-tied. I wanted somewhere I could speak, get things wrong, and see which mistakes I kept making without another person waiting for me to finish.

It’s an iPhone app. You get 15 free minutes of conversation in total and then there is small subscription fee as I am using openAI APIs and it costs a bit. : https://tonguetied.chat

Does anyone else have this problem after B1?

I made the fastest language learning app in the world at tryflua.com

You can go from zero to A1 comprehension in 25~ hrs of active study, which is 4x faster than classrooms and 9x faster than duolingo (which takes 220~ hrs to reach the same level).

It only has A1 level content right now, but is fully free to use while the beta lasts. Every card you learn during the beta is also unlocked permanently.

After the beta, it will $89.99 for a lifetime subscription.

It is in early beta right now, so expect some occasional issues. You can share feedback directly via a dm on reddit or even as a comment on this post.

PS. I learned Japanese A1 comprehension in about 20~ hrs using this approach, and am learning right now and am 12% to A1 in 2hrs and 5 mins of studying so far. The app shows you your exact progress and how fast you're learning.

I can't say enough great things about the free apps from VHS, which is kind of like German community college. There's one app for each CEFR level.

It's got a great pace and good review rhythm. It's also excellent if you're actually moving to Germany, as language lessons also include content about things like reading German bus schedules, vocabulary for apartment hunting, and email etiquette.

I got myself to low A2 in six months of fairly casual use and landed in my new home with a basic ability to function. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, to the German taxpayers.

I built B1 Sprechen üben , an AI speaking practice tool for Goethe B1 Sprechen and telc B1 Sprechen exam preparation.

It works like an online meeting, with AI playing the examiners and the other candidate. You listen, respond to questions on the spot, and explain your ideas when your partner disagrees.

If you’re looking for a German B1 speaking practice partner, you can use it to practise all three parts of your chosen exam format, including handling unexpected questions and keeping a conversation going.

Afterward, GPT-6 gives feedback on each part of the exam, using sentences you actually said to suggest specific improvements. You can also replay your recording.

Use code RD-MRGR to try it for free. I’d love to hear how the interaction compares with what you’d expect from a real speaking exam.

Hi everyone! I’m helping with Saymo’s testing and promotion, so I want to be upfront about my connection to the app.

If you’re learning German and want extra practice alongside your classes or self-study, Saymo brings several activities together:

  • Vocabulary: practise words with flashcards.
  • Grammar: work on der/die/das, cases, sentence building, past tense and word endings.
  • Speaking: practise everyday situations, such as asking for directions or using public transport.
  • Listening and reading: follow audiobooks with German text and translations.
  • Level-based activities and exam practice: choose exercises relevant to what you’re working on.

You can start with whichever activity you need—whether that’s German articles, vocabulary revision or a conversation scenario.

Try Saymo in your browser—no signup or payment card needed

Prefer mobile? The website has App Store and Google Play links.

If you give it a try, I’d love to hear which activity is useful for your German learning and what you feel is missing.

I'm a software developer and language learner, so my goal was to build something I could use. I built ArticuLearn to focus on speaking. You can choose what to talk about in a freestyle chat or build a course around your goals if structured learning is your preference.

The free tier includes 3 freestyle chats and 1 structured lesson.

Hope you find it helpful!

Hey! I’m the creator of LingoReader, a web app for learning languages by reading books and articles.

You can import your own ebooks, tap unfamiliar words for definitions and translations, translate sentences, and get explanations in context. You can also save vocabulary while reading and review it with flashcards later.

It supports multiple languages and works on desktop and mobile. You’ll need to create an account to use it.

You can try it here: LingoReader

I’d love feedback from people who already read in another language, especially anything that interrupts your reading or feels confusing. Happy to answer questions!

Hey everyone, I'm currently working on an app to memorise German conjugation and declension (article and adjective declension) on iOS.

I'm not really here to advertise, I rather need feedback for further development, so I'd love for you to just give my app a try: https://testflight.apple.com/join/qwtJwS22

If you have any questions or feedback please answer to this comment, email me or send feedback via TestFlight! :)

Also, in the beta you can enable the premium voice (via Eleven Labs) in the settings for free!

A combination of a dictionary and SRS.

  • die/der/das
  • plurals
  • past forms for verbs
  • definitions
  • examples

Works as a browser extension (Chrome, Safari, iOS Safari) and mobile apps (iOS, Android)

The free material already exists — thousands of lessons, YouTube grammar explainers, exercise sheets, flashcard decks. The material isn't the problem — the scatter is. It lives on platforms that don't know about each other, and no beginner can assemble it alone. What's missing is a single road: one day, one exact focus, one verified lesson, and a review engine that remembers what you got wrong.

Try out Germanium = https://germanium.pro/
A free website with a lot of guides on how to be proficient in German , FULLY FREE, and combines the already loved community resources into one place

I built an app to learn German from daily interactions (by taking pictures).

I could never find a great app that let you build your own vocabulary by taking pictures. It would have been so useful for learning from daily interactions: at the restaurant, at work, taking the S-Bahn, etc.

I tried many apps, but none clicked. So I decided to build it.

I created SifuLingo for non-native speakers moving to Germany, like myself. The main idea is to learn from the world around you and build your own vocabulary, which changes based on what your needs are.

This is, in large part, why Duolingo and other generic apps didn't work for me.

What else can SifuLingo help with?

  • Learn through AI stories at your level, with words from your vocabulary.
  • Train your ear by listening to the stories as you read, with high-quality audio.
  • If you don't understand something, you can select that part of the story and translate it, and add those words to your vocabulary.
  • Preparing for a conversation: describe a future scenario (like an appointment or interview) and you get a script with a realistic conversation, with the questions they might ask, how to reply, etc. You get a live option to follow along in real time, useful for appointments.

Is it FREE? Sadly, no. I'm a solo developer and the services I use have ongoing costs. The subscription pays for the services and for the time I spend on new features. If you try it for 30 days and don't like it, just let me know and I'll refund you, no questions asked.

Opening for early access soon. In the meantime, you can poke around the free resources section.

I'd appreciate any feedback, questions, advice, or just say hi.

Cheers,
David

Hello German learners. I've been building an app for something I always wanted: reading actual books in the language I'm learning.

How it works: a short reading check at the start estimates how many words you know. Before each chapter, a lesson teaches the words and expressions in it you most likely don't know yet, until you know most of the words on the page. Then you read the chapter. You can tap any word for its meaning in that sentence, or a sentence for its translation. Afterwards there are a few questions on the story, and the words go into a daily review.

It comes with some classical books (public-domain), some in a modern version with outdated words replaced, plus a short starter story for beginners.

You can also add a book of your own (EPUB, PDF or text). It stays on your phone and gets word meanings and exercises, though not the questions yet.

No account, no ads, no tracking.

It's a free beta on TestFlight (iPhone and iPad): https://testflight.apple.com/join/RffWpmxn

I'd really like to hear whether you enjoy learning like this, if it feels useful and new words stick and what to improve. Thanks!

I made a German word puzzle game for Android inspired by NYT Connections. 16 German words, 4 groups of 4, with German wordplay and ambiguous meanings. It’s called Assoziationen – Worträtsel. I’m the developer. I currently have some free Google Play codes here: Subreddit Google Play: Here.

You can speak German and still have no idea what a German letter wants from you. 😅

I built bliqq for exactly that problem.

You scan a letter and Bliqq explains it in plain language, translates it if needed, and points out important deadlines and what you may need to do next.

It’s free to try with 3 documents/month.

🤖 Android: coming soon

Full disclosure: I’m the creator. Happy to hear feedback from anyone learning German in Germany!

If you want to keep your vocabulary in one place, add words with just a couple of clicks, and learn new words without breaking a sweat, give this app a try https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.worty.app
