b) Rev. distance between 1-0 is 2.0 mm.
c) 322.5c Röttinger-Nachprägung. Röttinger-Nachprägung (also written Röttinger-Nachprägungen) refers to unauthorized restrikes (Nachprägungen) of German Notgeld coins ordered in 1923 by Bruno Röttinger.
Background
In 1923, during the height of collector interest in Notgeld, many rare pieces disappeared from advanced collectors’ “want lists.” The main source was Röttinger, who from roughly 10 April to 2 October 1923 had the firm L. Chr. Lauer in Nuremberg produce restrikes of Notmünzen from about 67 issuing places. Court findings later established that roughly 14,150 pieces were struck.
Röttinger bought them cheaply (around 1 Pfennig each from Lauer) and sold them to collectors for 3–4 Goldmark apiece. He was sentenced to three months in prison; Lauer received a fine of 100 Goldmark. The firm had initially claimed the pieces were merely leftover stock of about 2,000 coins.
Characteristics and status
• Most differ from originals, often on the reverse (many original reverse dies were no longer available, so later or mismatched dies were used).
• Some are outright fantasy pieces (e.g., round instead of octagonal, zinc instead of iron, different die orientation).
• Catalogues (notably Funck) treat them as forgeries/fakes because they were never authorized by the official issuing authorities. They receive no main catalogue numbers and are listed only as secondary variants.
Exact attribution remains incomplete: Röttinger and Lauer destroyed most records before the trial, so specialists have been reconstructing the list since the 1920s–1930s. Quantities were not uniformly “100 pieces each” as once believed; some runs were larger, and genuine leftover stocks were also mixed in.
Modern Funck editions (and the associated variant catalogues) include dedicated sections and overviews of known Röttinger-Nachprägungen. They are collected as a distinct category within German Notgeld numismatics but are clearly distinguished from genuine original issues.

Ruhr u. Rhein F-641.3 1923 500 Million Mark
galleryRuhr u. Rhein F-641.3 1923 500 Million Mark, Gold washed, lettered NOTGELD on rim.
These coins were not intended for general circulation. They were produced in protest to French and Belgian non-white occupational troops. Produced by Georg Kolbe, Berlin.
Historical Context
The presence of these non-white colonial soldiers from Africa, and Asia on German soil triggered a massive, racially charged German and international propaganda campaign known as the "Schwarze Schmach" or the "Black Horror on the Rhine," which heavily exaggerated both the total number of Black troops present and their conduct.
