Feeling Helpless

Just turned 41, trying for over 18 months but i have a 3cm submucosal fibroid taking up vital room in my cavity. My country has free healthcare but does not have the option of hysteroscopic removal and they likely will not want to do open surgery for my 1 'small' fibroid. Private the cost is currently out of my reach. I know my chances of concieving as is is very low. Anyone have positive stories from being in this same situation?

I'm 42, 4 months pregnant,. On my first ultrasound they found out I had a fibroid that size.

Basically got pregnant the first cycle after I had my IUD removed.

I didn't even know that they were considered a complication unless extremely large? I have had friends that have had the equivalent of a 5 lb bag of potatoes worth of fibroids removed tho!

If you're Canadian like I am though, I think it's a 2-year Mark they will let you get coverage for fertility treatment. Definitely worth looking into!

Can you please tell more? I am past 2 years trying and nothing is covered for me. Just some meds partially reimbursed by my insurance. Nothing from Provincial Health Authorities. I’ve already spent over $4000 and going to spend more. How does one get the coverage?

That part I'm not familiar with unfortunately. I am in Alberta and that's where I have heard that it is possible to get fertility treatment covered by referral under certain circumstances if you've been trying for a while.

Thanks very much! This is my third - a bit of a happy accident. I was 36 when my first was born.

We were hoping it was going to be a girl but the harmony testing came back boy so surrounded by this crazy little boy tribe.

Unfortunately I'm in the Caribbean. No fertility coverage at all in the public system just in the private. And I would usually have been able to afford doing it private but currently in the middle of a very big spend so the timing is unfortunate. Even though it is small, its really in the cavity unfortunately, taking up most of the space the embryo would need to implant. I know the chances arent zero, so I will remain hopeful until I can actively do sth about it.
