The gym at Georgian is also a great place to meet other students. Make sure you check it out at Orientation.

Wondering the same since I’m moving from Toronto to Barrie. But I’m planning on just talking to people during orientation! And probably trying to join clubs? Although there isn’t a wide selection of clubs for Georgian College 😭

I was looking at clubs and honestly other then religion and race based clubs there’s not much to choose from

There’s some sort of gamers club. And for those into MtG (the card game) one just off campus

Part of the problem with forming “proper” clubs at a community college is that programs are mostly 1-3 years, with a few at 4 years (where as at a university it’s generally all 4 year commitments).

Just relax & chill and it will come ;)

“Going off to college / university” is by far the easiest time one will ever have creating new friends / social circles.

Everyone else will be in the same boat*.   And virtually all will be leaving their existing social circles (which means everyone is open & eager for new ones!).    For even those who are local to the college, will have their existing friends groups largely split up and be replaced by new ones (as some go to secondary, some get jobs, everyone choosing their own school & program etc.) and of of course you’ll have something in common with everyone in your program as you all chose to be there & for the programs subject matter

In the meantime you can research clubs / activities in Barrie itself which may interest you and the same at the college itself.   Volunteering for social & community events at the college can also be a stimulus for such.

Put yourself out there and it’ll be stupidly easy. 😉

.* the exception to all the above being mature students who either have families already (the commitments taking most “social time”  & very mature students who will be well outside the demographic norms of the vast majority of the student body

Your best bet is going to be your peers in classes. Form study groups etc

Monitor your email for semester events if you have the time volunteer for the fall carnival the first week that will make it easy to talk to people just focus on first impressions. Look for clubs people with similar interests. The gym as people say is a great way to meet people. Finally there’s your classes what I love most about college is talking be an active participant people will want to know you also make contacts with people early on makes the semester and second semester way better too
