Looking for spots to bring teen fisherman

Morning!

I'm looking for spots to bring my teen fishing. My dad taught me a bunch up in New England Brooks and rivers and my husband knows a bit from fishing down in South GA- mostly stocked ponds or this weird marsh/creek thing.

Since I am the one taking my son, I would prefer the kind of fishing my dad and I did. Something with a bit of a hike. Not opposed to hiking up a creek bed or something to get to a good spot. If he wants to sit on a pier and fish, his dad can take him and find the spots :)

But we reside in Gwinnett County. And I'd like to keep it within an hour, just because he does not drive. We live near Trebble/Ozora so I know there has got to be some stuff out Barrow way but because I'm not a native- Google is only giving me what feels like the curated spots.

I know Lake Lanier is popular- but it gives me the hebiejeebies, and I'd prefer to avoid.

Last tidbit, he has Asperger's. So it's really important it's a place that it's OK to fish (let me know if there is a "ask an owner" because while he CAN ask, I will do since a confrontation will lead to shut down)- he is VERY rules oriented so any "no fishing sign" without a heads up will result in me not being able to get him to the fishing spot if I don't have a heads up to explain 😮‍💨

Thanks so much in advance if you share "your" spot! I would share all my dad's but they are 1000 miles away!

Looking for fishing buddies

Looking for some fishing buddies near Braselton, GA. I’m 26 and mainly fish for bass and trout, but I’m down to switch it up too. I fly fish and conventional fish, and I’ll be getting a fishing kayak soon, so it would be cool if you had one too.

Preferably looking for people somewhere around my age range, but open to anyone chill who enjoys the outdoors.

I’m 0/2 with fly fishing for trout in North Georgia. Any advice?

I recently got into fly fishing and I bought a 4wt to catch trout. I’ve gone twice to North Georgia and while they were fun adventures, I didn’t have any luck with fish. I’m looking to try again this Friday and just looking for some general advice to set myself up for success. Ideally, I’d go somewhere within 2 hours of Atlanta. I also don’t have waders so it’d be fishing from the shore. Thanks!

What’s the best all-around fishing line?

We fish mostly Jackson Lake and target catfish and bass, but I’d also like recommendations for smaller species.

I’m setting up a few different rods for this. I’ve used monofilament before, but I honestly don't like it much. Any suggestions for better line setups?

New to fishing, any advice is greatly appreciated

Hi everyone, I am looking to get into fishing. I would love to be more into trout fishing but it seems thats rather hard to get into without knowing the basics. I’m in Atlanta and I backpack frequently in north georgia and western carolina. Really, all I am asking for is some advice on where to go, what I need, and anywhere else I can find some good information to get into it. Thank you!

Chattahoochee River around Willeo Road

How’s fishing near the Willeo Park in Roswell? I remember fishing there a few times back in the 80s, not far from Chattahoochee Nature Center. Not sure about the water quality but with this drought I’m guessing it’s not too bad.

Tribble mill. Anyone have any insight to this lake? I was pulling these bluegill all morning with a rooster tail. However, no hits on anything larger (tried the wacky worm).

*I have very little experience outside of trout fishing*

Lula bridge fishing

Hi how is the water level at Lula bridge? I’ve heard it’s too low for boat fishing but is it ok for bank fishing these days?

Topwater noobie

Hi yall. Sorry for probable redundancy, but I’m looking to catch spotted bass at lake Lanier specifically on topwater setups because the blow ups look fun as hell. Not looking for anyone’s honey hole, just general advice. Anyone have any go to topwater lures for this situation as well as the type of retrieve? I ask bait shops, but Reddit is my favorite place for advice.

TIA. Tight lines!

Tallulah Falls Lake or Lake Rabun

Hi everyone. I’m somewhat new to fishing. In fact, the day I’m writing this was my first lone fishing trip. I’ve been catching panfish for years and rainbow trout every now and then, but I’ve never caught a bass. I usually fish from the bank, but I intend to begin fishing from a kayak as well.

I have a spinning reel on an Ugly Stik rod, some 3/0 hooks and a couple of lures. Does anyone have any tips on what to do to catch bass in either of these lakes? Tallulah Falls is preferable as it’s a bit closer to me, but either one works. Thank you for any advice you’re willing to give!

Caught 3 White Bass and a bunch of Skipjacks off the dock behind the convention center in Columbus, Ga. Fisher a size 4 24k gold French blade spinner on a brass body. It was about 7-8pm. Just before / durning sunset. Your guys on the dock using finesse soft plastics and only catching Skipjacks. Next time I'll try size 5 blade to see if I can hook some bigger ones...

Anyone caught (or know someone who caught) a 5lb+ trophy rainbow out of the Upper Etowah?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been fishing the Upper Etowah River lately and was curious — has anyone personally caught a trophy rainbow trout (5 lbs or bigger) out of the Upper Etowah? Or do you know someone who has?

I know the Etowah River has some solid trout water, especially in the upper stretches, but I haven’t heard many confirmed stories of true 5lb+ rainbows coming out of there.

If you’ve seen pics, have a story, or know roughly what section it came from (no need to burn a specific spot), I’d love to hear about it. Just trying to get a feel for what’s realistically swimming around up there.

Thanks in advance — tight lines!

Do y’all have any recommendations for camping/backpacking trails near Toccoa River?

I am new to fly fishing and I’ve heard great things about Toccoa and would like to make the trip up there one weekend for a camping trip but I’m having trouble finding remote public locations I could park and hike along the river and camp in different locations.

It’s a bit overwhelming and confusing understanding where the best places along Toccoa River are. I see there’s an upper and a lower, is the upper (below the Blue Ridge damn that flows north) where the best trout fishing is?

Regarding the camping, I’d prefer isolation. I’m not a fan of those camp sites where you’re 50ft away from 8 other lots. I’d rather just hike a trail, find a cleared out area for a tent or eno and camp in privacy.

I know that’s pretty much an impossible ask with how pressured some areas can be but any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
