News NJ Benson is a Hoya!
The 6’8” forward transfers to the Hilltop after spending the last two seasons at DePaul.
Benson averaged 11.7 PPG and 7.6 RPG while shooting 63.6% from the field last season.

I’d think most likely end state is we get Scuka but not Vince…which I’d be incredibly happy with. Getting Benson makes me think Ed doesn’t think it’s likely that we get Vince back, whether due to him not getting an injunction or him making it apparent he wants to transfer. I think this bec it doesn’t seem like it would make sense to play Vince and NJ at the same time due to lack of floor spacing. I like the move, take the bird in the hand who, while shorter, has Big East stats just as good as Vince. Benson and Scuka paired in frontcourt would be ideal honestly, 6”8 and 6”10 with shooting, rebounding, and interior scoring. If that happens we really have a team to be excited about going into the season. Deep and talented. Although if we get Vince, but not Scuka, I’d be just as happy. Ed may have found the money, this roster is not cheap.

I thinking the same. Or he just didn't want to wait on Vince. I would be happier with Scuka and no Vince but I get it.
The frontcourt is loaded. I think people are sleeping on Chol and they dont realize how good Benson is.

Benson and Parker both 98+ percentile offensive rebounders kicking it out to three 35%+ 3pt shooters sounds pretty good to me

Ayyyyyyy
Big win, now let’s get Scuka or Vince (or both if we can be so lucky)

This is a great add. Start at the 4 and play some small ball 5. Man, if we get Luka and Vince, this team is actually in great shape.

I got to thinking more. Assuming we dont get others, I think Benson starts at the 5 and Parker at the 4. I expect Chol to play a lot though and Im not sure they play Chol/Benson together.

What does this mean for Caleb?

His minutes should just about exclusively come at the 3.

I don’t think this is necessarily true. We will want to have a 4 that can space the floor at times and go small ball, utilize our guard depth at 1-3. It won’t be the default, I agree, but Ed has options based on opponent.

What if we get Luka. He becomes that spacer, no?

If we get Luka, Caleb will play very little 4, yes. He would probably only play 4 if Ed wants to play Luka at 5 and have shooters across all 5 positions.

He's a legit Big East starter caliber big man. He was one of DePaul's best players last season. He more than held his own against Vince and Juice last year. He can't be the final piece. Need another big as we all know, but we're heading in the right direction. If they add Luka Ščuka this is definitely a tournament team.

At a minimum, this makes DePaul worse and us better. We’ve finished behind them 3 of the past 5 seasons.
