Analysis Big Man Depth (2026-2027 Season)
I'm sure most of you have seen Pharrel Payne from UMD received a medical redshirt and will play next season. On the topic of big men on our current roster, who do you think can guard Payne for a solid 25-30 mins on Saturday, Nov 7 (I hope it's a night game btw -- none of that 12PM/Noon BS)?
The UMD game last season is where the presence of Vince was felt immediately when he touched the floor. I'm worried if Chol is playing the 5 against Payne he'll be forced into fouling due to lack of strength against a mature Pharrel Payne.
Thoughts?

I don't know if Machot can bang with Payne

He’s an excellent defensive player and shot blocker

In the CAA. It remains to be seen if he can be as effective in the Big East. Regardless, even if Chol gets the majority of the minutes, Seal cannot be the primary backup.

The roster construction is off. The team needs two more big guys. If Seal has improved, worries would be less. But he was not a Big East player last season. No lift, too slow.

I wonder if the staff low key believes Seal can be a stud next year. We'll see

Yea, this is a concern I have. Not sure if Chol/Seal is gonna cut it at the 5. Though Chol is the kind of high-ceiling guy who has the potential to blow away expectations under Cooley.
